da gta master
Well i searched for a topic about it and there were none so, here we are. Red Dwarf is one of my favourite programs EVER. Just have to collect all the DVDs now. BBC don't show it anymore, well I havent seen it in a long time. Has anyone heard anything about the movie? They were supposed to start filming May last year but I havent heard anything about it. Has it been stopped or something? Anyway heres the place to post about the TV series Red Dwarf. Enjoy
Mr Killer
I was talking to some guy from Britain on MSN, he said he enjoys it, althought they don't show it where I live.
tonywob
Red Dwarf is excellent, I've got the 7 DVD's. I doubt they will make a movie now, Craig Charles is starting to look old. He plays a character in coronation Street (A British Soap). They still play Red Dwarf on UK Gold, but it hasn't been on BBC for ages
Guglielminpietro
Big Red Dwarf fan here, probably my favourite comedy of all time. With regards to the film, I think the script is written and everything, but they can't get the sufficient funds to film it, which is a huge shame. I am ever hopeful that one day soon they'll gather enough cash and get the film made. I don't know someone doesn't just take the plunge and stump up some cash, it'll obviously be a huge hit I reckon. soundcloud.com/TheDamnFineCoats
Raindancer
" So let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you're completely sane? " " We'd better get a job. But what jobs are there in a backwards reality for a dead hologram and an android with a head shaped like a novelty condom? " "Just let me check: thermos, sandwiches, corn plasters, telephone money, dandruff brush, animal footprint chart, and one triple thick condom... you never know! " Ace: " You can't judge a book by its cover." Lister: " And you can't confuse Rimmer with a book. For a start, a book's got a spine. " Best show in the world. I love Red Dwarf, tis a shame they wont be making a movie though. I official website has not been updated in ages. And why has it taken over 3 years to release all the series on DVD? da gta master
And why has it taken over 3 years to release all the series on DVD? For some reason they only decided to make the next DVD on the specific month. I think they released 2 a year, one in Febuary and another in October. Or something along those lines. Big shame about not having enough money for the movie, big kick up the ass for Red Dwarf fans. EDIT: Just found this on their site When are the other Red Dwarf DVDs coming out? Two DVDs will be coming out every year. Following the releases of Series I (November 2002), Series II (February 2003), Series III (November 2003) and Series IV (February 2004), all other series will come out in the same Nov-Feb pattern. These UK/Region 2 dates will be approximately the same for Australia/Region 4, but keep an eye on the Red Hot News. America/Region 1 plan to release pairs of series together, always in February. Logic3
If any of you had watched the Comedy Connections program featuring Red Dwarf, you will know that an American film company offered to make the film, but re-cast with Hugh Grant as Lister ... And speaking for myself, I love it just as much as Little Britain
Crokey
Red Dwarf is undoubtedly the most funniest TV program ever, but the Beeb won't repeat it as it's not Absoultly fe*cking tossbagging Fabulous, or the soapcom that is Only Fools and Horses. Kryten: It's a White HoleCat: So what is it? Lister: Let's go Cat: So What is it?... Only Joking Funniest scene ever, after the shrinking boxer shorts obviously. So what is it? I could go on all day about Red Dwarf, as I bl**dy love it. But as for the film, yes the script has been written all the storyboards have been done all the cast would make room in their schedule to do the film, but yes the funding has been an issue if you watch the Fan Films section of the bonus features on the Red Dwarf VII DVD (Shame about that series, but we don't talk about that one) there is pretty much a true representation of the ups and downs of trying to get funding for the film. Which despite the threats of trying to get Hollywood names in the cast as a prerequisite of getting funding for the film (coincidentally Alan Rickman was considered all those years back for the role of Rimmer), I have heard through a very tangled grapevine of contacts I have in the film and TV industry, that there is a couple of potential backers for the film, with the requirements for stars as high profile guests not as replacements for the cast, one of the names brandished about but obviously not confirmed as a backer is the Sci-Fi Channel and also Paramount due to the Star Trek/Patrick Stewart (being a big fan of the series) connection, these are obviously not confirmed and the industry is always full of rumours but there is possibilites. Although I've still not forgiven the Sci-Fi Channel for pulling the plug on Farscape, grrr. So What is it?.... Yo' Mama
Red Dwarf is quality. I had all the videos (yeah videos, kids) when they first come out. Got a bit crap after series 6, tried to use all special effects and that. Part of the charm of it was the wobbly sets and starbug floating around on a wire!! Best Quote? Rimmer - 'You are a total total total total........a word has yet to be invented to describe how totally whatever it is you are. But you are one. And a total one at that' f*ckin class
Donnie Ducko
Anyone here read the Smegazine when it came out? I loved that comic book, especially as it dealt with all of the background to the characters...
OH NO
Man I love red dwarf more than I love ladycake. And you know how much I love ladycake. It did get quite poor in the later series though, when that chick came into it, and they started to spend more on the budget. Still, classic. I loved that comic book, especially as it dealt with all of the background to the characters... Hell Yeah, I've got the entire collection of them, signed books by both Rob and Doug, I've also got all the T-Shirts that were produced up till Series VII, Baseball Cap etc etc and I've also got the Baseball Jacket with the leather sleeves which is worth about 5 times that what it originally cost. <Engage Smug Mode> <Smug Mode Engaged> Ahh! Chalkstar
Simply the greatest show ever made. 'tis quite the shame the movie is under the state it is. I would be more the willing to donate $100 to help it along. If only every Red Dwarf fan did that. Then maybe the progress could move along. cice
A friend of mine lent me the season 1 DVD of it, I didn't find it all that funny. It's weird because I know quite a few people who absolutely love it, but I just never saw what was so funny in it.
Guglielminpietro
One of my favourite lines is from "Timeslides" (I think it was called that), where Lister is in some alternate reality where he's rich and has a beautiful wife, and Rimmer goes to him to try and change history back to what should have happened with Lister going onto Red Dwarf... Having failed to convince him, Rimmer says: "You call this happiness? Surrounded by toadying lackeys and paid sycophants? Living with a love-goddess sex-bomb model megastar? You call this contentment? You know, I stand here now and I look at the two of us, and I ask one simple question: Who is the rich man? You, with your fifty-eight houses, your private island in the Bahamas, your multi-billion pound business empire; or me, with... with... with what I've got. (Pause) It's you isn't it? Yes it's all very clear to me now. You -- richer and happier... I should have thought a bit harder about that speech, really. I cocked it up a bit, didn't I?" Hilarious. My favourite episode is White Hole though, with the scene that Gareth mentioned earlier. Also, it always cracks me up when Kryten tries to 'rebel' and call Rimmer a smeghead. Occasionally I even say "What a shmeeeg" about one of my mates. So what is it? soundcloud.com/TheDamnFineCoats
Crokey
Does anyone remember the tongue tied music video from series 2? Yeah I've got a making of video kicking about somewhere of that, full and uncut, it came out around the time they actually released it as a single... d'oh, why did they remix and do it differently when they did that, it sounds sh*te then. Oh thanks I've got the tune stuck in my head now GC

WidowMaker
I love Red Dwarf. I've been meaning to get the DVDs for a while. As far as quality goes, it's all on the up from the very first episode to what, series 6, 7? I seem to remember it getting better with each one. But, I don't want to buy any series thats a real stinker. I know it did tail off a bit towards then end, is that the general consencis?

Generally its stated that it went downhill once the original crew members of the red dwarf came back into it (I forget how, but kchansky and the rest came back to life) In these episodes Rimmer is a human again etc. To be honest, I caught one of these later episodes on Ukgold the other night, and it was still pretty funny, just not as funny. Sure, I hated Kochanski, but she didn't detract enough from any episode so as to be classed as a 'stinker'. Myself, I'd buy the DVDs, were they not $50 a season (50x7=$350=f*ck that). I'll just stick with the tapes I recorded from some marathon a couple of years back.
