holdenrulz
Okay so the other day I bought a USB external HDD case without a HDD, placed a HDD in it, now When I plug it into my Windows box it reads that it's there but it won't appear in explorer. I tried using Partition Magic to format the hard drive incase that was the problem, but when it tried to format the HDD it came up with a error, but the HDD appeared in Explorer so I tried to format using windows and it disappeared again. The only reason I knew windows could still see it was that the safely remove hardware icon was still in the tray and device manager confirmed it was still there. Then I tried formating with my windows install disc which formatted it but Explorer still couldn't see it, So I tried it on my dads G4 mac and It appeared I formatted it and could store data on it but explorer still can't see it. By the way I'm using all 4 of my ide slots: 2x HDD 2x DVD Burner The HDD inside the External is IDE, the Safely Remove Hardware Wizard detects it as a USB Mass Storage device and I am using XP So I don't have any idea what could be wrong does anyone have any ideas ??? holdenrulz
BUMP Well Does anybody have a clue The HDD is a 120 GB Western Digital that used to be on this computer after reading This page I look at the Disk management But Once I got it to appear It was already Initialise(from my previous attempts to format it I assume), the format produced the same error that once it finished it would say the volume couldn't be formated and In explorer an attempt to copy a file would result in Volume cannot be found error box. I'm running XP Pro The USB Ports work History The HDD was originally in this computer as a slave used it as a Master for linux in another computer and now this. It is set as a master drive as if set as slave or CS it will not show up at all. Anybody ???? And before anybody complains about me bumping it Considering I didn't get an answer and I left it for a month it's reasonable to bump it
jersiq
Are you trying to format it as NTFS, or a FAT32 Drive?
