TOGA62
I’m sorry guys, I thought I was entitled to my opinion Next time I will be much more toothsome when stating any future conjecture. Chucky, Chucky, Chuck, I’m most incontrovertibly not racist. I’m just really really really really proud. You know better sweetheart. Plus I banged a foreign chick a couple times, it was OK. you're not "proud" you are ethnocentric. Since you probably don't have a clue what that means, It is defined as "ones perspective based on the assumption that ones culture and its norms are the only right way." Which, believe it or not, has a negative connotation. (who would have guessed! ) For all those retarded people out there, it means it interprets to being a bad thing. So stop being so damn ethnocentric. You are missing out on a huge portion of the rest of the world and although you are trying to appear as "proud" (as you so intelligently put it) for those who have a little bit more cultural relativism you come across as just being arrogant, idiotic, and stuck up. perhaps next time you will think twice before posting your "opinion" as you call it because all you are really doing is making yourself look like a fool. I'm all for opinions, but when someone tries to play off their lack of understanding or respect of other cultures simply because they have no experience with them, I can't help but laugh and openly mock their stupidity. My favorites, Old Boy, City of God, and High Tension (great french horror) Have a great day! Social: TOGA62 PS3: balltowellamp
sofa_king
fool arrogant idiotic stuck up And on top of all that your laughing and openly mocking my stupidity? I was going to reply with " Your a dummy face! " But there is no way I could be competitive with you on a name calling level. You seem a little upset at my foolishness, so I won't ignore you being how I respect you as my equal until giving reason to believe otherwise. I hope that is not to harsh for ya. Here are my opinions on "ethnocentrism." Ethnocentrism may be the one thing that all cultures have in common. Yeah, wrap your wing around that. I believe we are all ethnocentric to varying degrees because we are born into a culture at birth and we embrace that culture. Theirs no real getting around that Mr Millionaire. Unless..... Hmmm... we could exterminate every race that doesn’t embrace our... FULL STOP! No, that simply will not do. I hope me and the others like me don't ever piss you off that bad. because that Adolph, would be the only perfect solution. We seen it tried repeatedly since the dawn of time. You see, It dosn't only mean "negative connotation." (as you so intelligently put it) Though I'm not for cultural relearning, I think it is perfectly ok if one country exercises an advantage over another with ... hmm ... idk ... knowledge for example. Without this we won't have a very bright post-industrial future to look forward to. I think weapons we should keep superiorly to ourselves as well, for obvious reasons. And I don't think we will be getting any free oil anytime soon. You might argue bla bla bla sofa those are all forms of cross-cultural ethnocentrism that do not involve "de centering" or relearning. Then I would point out we are having this discussion in a foreign films topic. (Read last sentence again while doing best Bill Cosby impression) Once again these are my opinions bud. And I’m not currently in a position to "relearn" them with you on a GTA site. Canna' nigga have his opinionz? In closing, Most folks take on some sort of ideology, a view of life, a way of living. I know I have. And I like to think I tolerate the existence of different views exceptionally while maintain absolute faith in my own, for Gods sake I'm not Hitler TOGA. Sphericon
NBK isn't even a non-English language film...so that's by the by... Lost Boy rocks... As does Man Bites Dog (a lot better than NBK due to it's documentary style and the child smothering scene) A Chinese Ghost Story, In The Mood For Love, Chungking Express, Fallen Angels, Chinese Odyssey 2002, Mr Vampire, Taxi, Taxi 2, Taxi 3 Koyaanisqatsi, Powaqqatsi and Naqoyqatsi are great as well...not really any language so I guess they count
Haifaiv
'Zatoichi'. Incredible film, beautifully shot and some stunning action. A great main character too. Can you get any cooler than a blind samurai masseuse? Not too much CGI sh*t either. I remember a French documentary about a school in a tiny village called 'Etre et Avoir'. It was really... nice. Funny kids and a really cool teacher. And yes, Amélie was great, I can't believe it has the same director as Alien 3. Although it wouldn't be half as good without the genius of Yann Tiersen. Wolfwood
I agree with Haifaiv, I recently saw Zatoichi, the whole Z deal. I wanted to buy it, but it was on the telly, so I watched it and was blown away. Wish I had bought it. Heh, sofa_king wrote his rant like a poem.
