But I would like someone to help explain to me how to install a map to vice city. I have downloaded the hillclimb mod along with the arctic truck. So far I havnt had any problems installing new vehicles, and they work great, but i'll be damned if I cant figure out how to use the many programs that help to install the maps. Dumb it down, like you are talking to a child. Im sure there is a logical way of loading these maps but for whatever reason I am just not getting it. I know, some Readme docs can be hard to read, and I have never installed this map mod before, so I will be guessing in what you have to do. When you unpack the mod, there should be some new folders from the mod archive. Lets just say there is a Maps and a Models folder: In the models folder from the Mod there is normally some 'dffs' and 'txds', these files are to be inserted into your GTA3.img file found in your installed-GTA-/models/ folder using the tool Imgtool. This tool can be found at http://grandtheftauto.filefront.com/file/IMG_Tool;44920 When you run IMGTOOL, Open your GTA3.img file and find the command 'ADD files', then locate the Mod and select all the new files from the Mods Models folder. Note: I'm hoping that the files you have to ADD are new, and are not pre-existing within the GTA3.img file. This is where you will have to check for the original files first (Using the Search command on IMGTOOL) and if you do find some files that are the same, back them up first (Using the Import command), them Replace the GTA3.img files with only the new Mod files! Note: Do not remove any files that are not in the Mod. Sometimes you have to DELETE the original file first then ADD the new file in its place. This method can be the best way. When done adding files. Rebuild the GTA3.img file using the Rebuild command, once done quit the IMGTOOL, dunzo!! ---- Maps folder IDE, COL and IPL files go in maps. For example lets say there is a Maps folder in the mod with a Blahness folder inside. So blahness.COL, blahness.IDE and Blahness.IPL within the Mods maps/blahness/ OR maps folder, just goes in your installed-GTA/Data/Maps/Blahness/ folder. Note: All those files should be in there own folder with in installed-GTA / Data / Maps 'Blahness' just like all the other folder names, ‘downtown, downtows’ etc. To install the Blahness map files you need to open your GTA_VC.dat file in the installed-GTA/Data folder using notepad. All you need to do is insert the line. IDE data\maps\blahness\blahness.IDE But after the last line: Example: IDE data\maps\stadint\stadint.IDEIDE data\maps\blahness\blahness.IDE And then IF there is a blahness.COL file within the mod. You need to add the line: COLFILE 0 data\maps\blahness\blahness.COL Within the COL section after the last line: Example: COLFILE 0 MODELS\COLL\GENERIC.COLCOLFILE 0 data\maps\blahness\blahness.COL Last but least the blahness.IPL that goes in the IPL section: Example: IPL data\maps\islandsf\islandsf.IPLIPL data\maps\stadint\stadint.IPLIPL data\maps\blahness\blahness.IPL The GTA_VC.Dat file has to be in order of IDE, COL and IPL, because this is the order the game loads the files. haichid Posted December 18, 2005 Author Share Posted December 18, 2005 Mckay, Ive done everything you suggested I do, but i cant get it to work. The first time I did it the game loaded fine and i couldnt find the Hillclimb so it didnt work. I went back and noticed I left out a couple files. when I tried to load the game this time I get Unhandled exeption: c0000005 at address 0062a8ee and the game will no longer load. I know I can simply go back and undo what I have done, and Ive done that once, but I dont want to give up. I have the VCMM and the .vcm version of the file as well. The other person that posted a reply said to use that, that ive tried before but thought I would give it another shot, as far as I can tell that program isnt even being used anymore, pardon me if im wrong. Im banging my head against the wall now. HELP HELP HELP. p.s. I tried looking for the readme file, for this mod. there wasnt one. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

haichid Posted December 19, 2005 Author Share Posted December 19, 2005 IT WORKS!!! I finally got it to work. It originally wasnt working because I was leaving out one very important step. I didnt transfer some of the files to the games directory. After than, it was there. The thing is huge and fun. Now that ive got some idea as to what to do, I think im going to tackle another one.
