tuff_luv_capo
Anyone watch? I didn't hear about it till I saw the extra features on the GTO movie, "Last Ride". Anyways, The Pontiac GTO won the 2005 Formula D Drifting Championship, driver: Rhys Millen I need to get speed channel, I have to watch this sh*t at my friend's house. Lucky bastard. He has Tivo and the a digi box and says you can switch between driver's views on your remote during nascar races, and he gets all his races recorded depending on what type it is. GTA3Freak-2001
Dirt track racing is alot different to Drifting except for the obvious sideways action. Anyway yeah that Monaro GTO is awesome I read an article on it when it first won a drift comp, I've seen heaps of Commodores and Utes drift here in Australia which are close relations of the GTO/Monaro and they can really drift almost and if not better then the traditional drifting machines. I have the The Last Ride DVD and it didn't have any special features, stupid region 4 version!
Dunpeal
I keep track of the Australian one. I also post on here. Aplleton, Boger, Drift Cat, they all post on there also.

Ping
Professional drifting is kickass. Unfortunately the only real opportunity I have to see it on TV is on TechTV, which kinda sucks because the host is one annoying ass nigga. Anywho, yeah, it's awesome. They'll keep on thinking it's worthwile. What's wrong with VTEC? He just ha to pull his winky out and wipe it on anyones face who hasn't got an American car. Don't worry. Whats is wrong with Vtec, having different sized cams to give an engine better response through the revs is pretty much great and not one VTEC engine has been returned to the factory. The engine is powerful and economical. But don't V-Tech make electronic toys? *cough* On topic, yeah the GTO/Monaro Is a very elegant drifting machine. The road variant is an animal for kicking out, but on the track, that GTO is damn smooth. Drifting is for all the "cool" kids these days, so I ignore it. Trueno_Drifter86
I used to watch it on Tech TV all the time I keep forgeting to watch it again unfortunitly . But yeah I think he's won two seasions in a row I hope he doesn't win again (nothing against him) but it would be nice to see someone new on the podium preferably Taka Aono(sp?) or Ken Gushi. I hope the sport stays exactly how it is except the drivers get payed much better.TRUENO
tuff_luv_capo
The road variant is an animal for kicking out With the wrong driver. You have to know how to handle 400 hp. Anything kicks out with enough power, it's hard to understand, I know. As for saying I "wipe my winky in the faces of people without american cars", May I remind you that the GTO is australian? Pontiac gets no credit for that. And the car I am buying next to add to my sports collection is not american, either.

It doesn't matter if it was built to run on rails, with 400 bhp, you WILL lose traction if you don't know what you're doing. As for the capri, it doesn't have an excuse. Pontiac gets no credit for that. And the car I am buying next to add to my sports collection is not american, either. LOL! Jebus. Anyway, I was saying when you want to kick the back end out on the road version it kicks out like an animal, on the track however, the setup they have is very very smooth looking. It's not just down to the driver. I've had a go in it myself and I've also had a go in my neighbours E36 M3 which pushes out 300+ bhp. The E36 can kick out easily but its easy to control too. The GTO is pretty difficult to get out of a skid becasue there's a hint of heavy bodyroll compared to the E36. Also, I remember Hampster on Top Gear drifitng the stock 05 Monaro and he had a lot of trouble keeping a constand drift casue of the dodgy weight shifting, g-forces etc etc. In any case, I have never drifted, ever. You never have too, I would highly presume. There is a difference between a drift and a powerslide. I wasn't dissing the GTO/Monaro for being a challenge. I love a challenge and Id love a Monaro, but I travel 80 miles a day just to get to work, not to mention the errands like piucking my girl up etc, so it adds upto about 100 miles a day, mainly on the twisties. One day it will be reasonable to have the spare cash to have a nice car for the weekend or something, but I'm more focussed on my girlfriend and out future, our home and our kids.. although at the moment thats just an eventuality we haven't reached. The GTO isn't really Australian, GM is American. But having said that it will have parts from all over the world almost. Aston Martins run off modified Jaguar engines which stem back to Ford etc... A cars nationality is defined by the nationality of the designers these days, so who knows? Driving fast is not about having your foot to the floor. It's like turning the light switch on just putting your foot down. You get this little split seccond lag of reaction then all of a sudden you're spinning wheels, shredding tyres etc. You have to be gentle, smooth and easy going and with that comes great control and somehow you find more use for the power you have and you can push your limits harder. Some people cannot believe how much I can squeeze out of a 1.4. Sounds gay I know but its a funny little car my Peugeot. All electronically controlled so its never all the same each time I drive it, forcing me to make silly school boy mistakes. But learning to compensate for cooler air, road surfaces etc etc is liek reacting to the ECU's reaction to those conditions. As I've said Im not really into the drifting scene as such. Fun to watch etc but its not something I wanna watch on TV, its something I want to go to a track and learn. Also, does the GTO have any kind of forced induction from the front of the car? I've looked at a lot of pics I could find but nothing indecates it does. Seems like a small restriction for a N/A car. Needs some kind of induction kit + cold air feed. That coupled with an exhaust system that virutally eliminated back pressure should inscrease the throttle response quite well. Make it sound a lot more menacing too. tuff_luv_capo
Didn't come with it, but every car I own immediately goes to the shop for a chip, new exhaust and induction. I hate restrictions with a passion. As for body roll, I don't know about the Monaro, but the GTO is very solid. You could not shake that car from the outside without help. The inside is so quiet and stable, you don't even know you are sliding until things start going by wrong, and believe me, that has happened. I drive 23 miles to work every day, along the highway, and almost every other day, someone tries to keep up when I hit the back roads. They start backing off when the road dips a bit, or I get air, either because they have immense body roll (tuned cars, they usually care about suspension last), or they have ground effects that would be ripped to shreds. About the only cars that even attempt it are the WRX STi's that always attempt to race from a roll because they know where their turbo kicks in, but always back off at lights or high speeds. I had one with those annoying xenon lights keeping up at a buck twenty on a back road. I hit a small hill in the road that lead to a turn. Got air, everything went quiet, I let off the gas and kept the wheel straight for the turn when I landed. The change in my cupholders "jinked" as the car hit the ground and I pushed it into the turn. Still have yet to see those xenon lights in my mirror. Didn't know it did so well when I first got it, that's for sure. I was used to doing 35+ over railroad tracks. I hit them at about 20mph my first night and almost got whiplash from high tight the suspension was over the tracks. Now that I mention it, most people that challenge me are in tuners, I guess because they see the GTO as less muscle looking and mistake it for something else, which is true. It has a back end of one of the new acura's, and when they see the stock 17's, they assume they are modded big ones like I'm a ricer or something. I had a guy in totally tuned tiburon pull up next to me at one of those two-way left turns on the highway, I had the disadvantage on the right side (left turn, I had more to travel). He had a body kit, exhaust, gauges(so I'm guessing turbo), scoop, wheels, brakes, intake, everything. But with only 170 starting hp, I noticed that even though I had more to turn, I was still right next to him as we took off. I kept in first so that when the road went straight, while he was already in second to get to the speed we were at, I could jam it at high RPM's and show him why not having to shift until 60 mph with 400+ (haven't dyno'd lately and I'm not gonna exagerestimate like most do) ft of torque is something he'd have to dream about. GTA3Freak-2001
Lets just say the Monaro is a mix of different countries, its based on a modified Opel Omega chasis(Euro), Holden's done stuff to it to become the commodore and then to a coupe, engine is GM so its really a mixed bag ain't it. And yeah as you said TLC people will mistake it as a tuner sedan type thing as your right its not exactly muscle looking at first glance. I've seen silly little ricers try and take on V8 Commodores and Monaros all the time its rather amusing.
JJHW
Hehe, we get the opposite effect in our car... Porsche drivers (and M3 drivers) see our car as an 'easy target' and give it a go... Not lost yet... And let's look at figures, our car's got what, 200bhp? And a turbo... We shouldn't beat those cars, haha... Best ones are Merc SLK drivers, it's great fun... +FF7F24+

Cran.
May I remind everyone that Australia has the most unique driving conditions of all countries. The majority of outback roads are dirt, so we have cars that are made to suit these conditions. @Freakeh yeah, I see it all the time. Silly ricers think they can take on the pure power of a V8.. oh how stupid they are. As for body roll, I don't know about the Monaro, but the GTO is very solid. Soft suspension so you don't get the sh*t shaken out of you traveling down the back roads. horrible for drifting. cars are the same in general all over the world. The railroad tracks were not expected. Like I said, it was just after I got it. Then I got used to it. Ya see, whiplash is from a jerk that's usually unexpected. When your adrenaline is going at 95 mph+, and you are more than ready, it more of a distraction. And what are you going to take me up on? That phrase didn't fit there.
