Not only is it suspicious, it's mathematically impossible. 27.4M is just under 90ft, which is obviously nowhere near 304.44ft. So your game is FUBAR or you're mistaken it what you typed...

Ok, I can't confim the 304.44 ft even though that's what it says, but I did shoot it from 27.4M away, thats what it said on the screen when I made the shot. As far as the what it says under achivements(304.44ft), yeah, I think the game doesn't know what its talking about.

 

But I'll post a pic of the 304.44 FT anyway, even though I think it's bogus. But 27.4M, that's my record, now stop flaming and get the record braking.

i dont think you can shot more that about 20 m or 60 ft, cause if CJ too far away from the basket, you will be considered quit/leave the court.

For what it's worth, I did a little checking tonight. CrazYFinGers' 304 ft Achievement score wasn't a one-time glitch. Every single meter->foot conversion in the basketball furthest hoop calculation is screwed up, at least on the xbox (and apparently ps2 from Crazy's screens). The developers have somehow managed to take meters*100/9 as their feet distance for the furthest hoop instead of something more reasonable like meters*100/30.48 or even meters*10/3. I wonder if they did that elsewhere too....

 

Also, in the course of my testing, I hit a 29.9m shot (glitched achievement distance 332.22ft). There's a screenshot link below, but after Small_Fryz' post, it's not particularly impressive and I'll probably delete the screens later to reclaim diskspace. Due to the weird camera angles, you have to shoot blind beyond half-court (at least in on my game) which is one of the things that makes it difficult.

Daaaaamn, thats crazy, but I was only doing my sh*ts from the court next to Sweet's house, where it's more limited. Where are the other courts these people are shooting from??

Interesting thought. If they were from the glitched conversions, they'd only be half-court shots though (52.15m is approx 171.1ft; if that came from the glitch, the original shot would've only been 15.4m)

 

I too hope someone can test this on whatever version of the game was used by the record book participators. The easiest thing to do is start a new game to clear the stats, play through Tagging Up Turf to get the basketballs, and then make successively longer shots, noting the in-game message (in meters) and the achievement stat (in feet) each time. The glitch will be immediately noticeable.

I used the court in Willowfield which is in very SE Los Santos. There's a tag to spray right near it. I'll put a SAM link below. Note that since I was shooting at the Western basket, I was nearly at maximum range because of a fence on the East side. If you can get the ball to spawn at the Eastern basket, you probably have more room because there's an alley in the other direction.

Yep. This confirms my findings on the xbox (US version 1); thanks for that. Note that 100/9 (the conversion factor noted in my previous post) is approx 11.111. I assume you're on the PS2 based on an earlier screenshot. Is it NTSC or PAL? Also, is it v1 or v2 ("SE")?

It is NTSC and I don't know how to know if it's V1 or V2, but I got it the same day it came out for the PS2, so I think it's version 1?

 

And today I got a new personal record of 31.6M <<Data from screen, not Achievements. And I just found out that there's a basketball challenege when you press R3... Very qul

I didn't feel like regestering to see those screen shots either, but I'm with whoever it was (Small_Fryz?) that commented on how they're probably conversions from ft. measurements. when you get into the upper 20s meters range it pretty quickly will relieve you from your basketball. i just don't see how they can get almost twice as far away and get the shot off before the game says 'nope, you ain't playin' basketball no more'.

 

in our latest game we've (hubs and i) been screwin' around with the basketballs and his best shot is 28.1m and it shows over 300ft. in the stats. we were both like 'eh.. what?' which is why i'm here searching through the forums and finding this post. nice to know our game isn't the only one having trouble remembering that a meter isn't 11 ft. long.

It might be easiest to simply ask them if their shots were from "a little over half court" (meaning glitched distance recorded) or from "way the hell far away; 1 1/2 to 2 court lengths" (meaning actual distance recorded.) If anyone is active on that forum, some PMs would probably give us a definitive answer. If those are actual distances, that's damned impressive; I'd like to know what courts they were on too.

 

EDIT: On the assumption that the Spuds725 listed in the record book is the same one active on these forums, I have PM'd the Spuds725 here with that question.

Could you tell us what version/platform you were playing on? I'm just curious how widespread the glitch is. I suspect it happens everywhere, but confirmation is good. So far we know for sure it happens on v1 NTSC PS2 and xbox.

Well, the potential #1 record is now CrazY's 31.6m. I have screens of a legitimate 29.9m posted earlier, but I probably won't ever bother trying to go back ahead.

I assume since you play PS2 version 1 it's the latter, meaning a real value of 14.8 meters (about half court.)

Anyway, I heard back from Spuds. In his case, he doesn't remember the details of the shot, but it was definitely an Achievements distance conversion, so the evidence continues to mount that the gtaplanet record book was using glitch numbers. I think the least confusing thing to do is simply maintain separate records of in-game/brief (actual) meters or achievement (glitched) feet and not bother doing any unit conversions. It's not like this has any real meaning anyhow.
