Devyl
Although the inquirer isn't the most accurate place for pc-based news, as of late they've been hitting things right on the head, so here's what's being claimed: I'm sure if you're reading this, you know about ATi's plan to push out the X1800XT, which is supposed to obliterate the Nvidia 7800GTX... Weeeeeeelllllllll, looks like Nvidia is gonna beat them to the punch, and push out their 7800 GTX Ultra, or as it's officially called, *Takes a deep breath* "Nvidia GeForce 7800GTX 512MB Edition" a FULL WEEK before the ATi X1800XT is shipped out. Here's the big catch: The 512mb 7800GTX runs @ 550/1800!!! There have been reports of people in labs from companies like evga & XFX getting up to 800/2100 on overclocking! WHat does this mean in english? Well, unless ATi has some kind of miracle blessed upon them, Nvidia is going to make their X1800XT obsolete BEFORE it hits shelves! As far as I can remember in the PC world, this is actually the first time something like this has happened... **ninja edit** Here's the link: CLICKEY
Taxman
Hoooooooly sh*t. That's one hell of a card. Taxman hears new GT wimper Congrats to NVIDIA on having the only card that will handle F.E.A.R. Wasn't the GTX already better then the 1800 except in AA? SmellyJelly
It's coming the 14th? As in 10 days? When that comes out what are the chances there other cards will become cheaper? Also how woould it perform against the 6600GT?
SIP YEK NOD
that is awesome SIP YEK NOD looks at his aging 6800GT so dev, when will you be swapping your measly little 7800GTXs for these new 7800GTX Ultras?
Taxman
Well.....around double the amount of pixel pipes....around double the mhz on both clocks....Significantly better. Oh, and it'll actually run FEAR at a decent framerate. I doubt any kind of program's going to use that kind of power, except some heavy duty 3D modeling and such. Stop using the world "handle" in such a manner. A Radeon 9600 will "handle" FEAR. Hell, anything metting the minimum requirements "handles" fear. The term you're looking for is "run at ungodly resolutions with maximum quality settings".
Forfit
If it is coming out in 10 days why does it seem like such a secret, like on nvidia's site and stuff. I remember when i would go to ATI's site they couldnt wait to announce the release of the x1800? series stuff.

The anandtech.com testing on fear shows that the 6600 can only get up to about 1024x768 and maintain good framerate... There are more factors than resolution. I know for a cold hard fact a 9600 can run FEAR at 1024x768 with a combination of minimum to medium quality. How do I know? Because I run the game on a 9600 with a rate of 35-50 FPS (the "test" thingie shows an average of 38 FPS). People are under the impression that games today take the best of the best hardware to run decently, when they don't. A 6600GT will easy run the game at 1280x1024 medium settings (that doesn't include a lot of the "advanced" shadow settings) with the proper supporting hardware. Also, I'd bet money the anandtech.com test is a stress test. If you've yet to learn what that term means, look it up. It's no real measure of how the game will run under normal conditions, just a way to compare graphics cards running on the same base hardware. Wolf68k
A better source than The Inquier...no offence but I had a hard time believeing anything from them http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2005/10/26/51...gtx_on_nov_7th/ http://www.bytesector.com/data/news_item.asp?newsID=3995 http://www.ngohq.com/home.php?page=Article...=read&arc_id=46 http://www.geekextreme.com/content/view/9153/7/ Ok so The Inquier is 1 for 1 billion stories that are true. I'm not sure if their story on this 100% true, but it's a hell of a lot closer to the truth than their past stories.
Exkabewbikadid
Nvidia may have won this generation, but ATI has laid some impressive ground work with R520's general purpose capabilities (GPGPU) that will probably have Nvidia sh*tting itself next time around. And INQ seems to be consistently unreliable anymore, not to mention their journalists make more grammatical errors than a classroom full of 6th graders. Devyl
Wasn't the GTX already better then the 1800 except in AA? Actually, the x1800Xt is rumored to have the power of roughly 1 & 1/2 GeForce 7800GTX's. As for ATi showing a countdown & such, well, the x1x00 series has been in devleopment for almost 2 years before launch, and it had been given MANY paper release dates, but nothing physical came of them. Bond996
This isn't fair. My 5600 was so cool and top of the line two years ago. No not really. The 5600 always got beaten by 9600's, and they had to release a 5700 to keep up.

reticulatingsplines
However, Nvidia are still using old architecture. ATi's new chip has been developed from the ground up. Which GPU do you think will have more headroom in 12 months time? Sounds like Nvidia sh*tted when they realised the 1800 was going to top on image quality, and did the olde 3DFX trick of just boosting core frequency to make up the difference. They might have the fastest card on the market, but it won't necessarily make for the best experience. FPS isn't everything, but they'd like you to think so, yes. (Not a fanboy, by the by, I just go wherever the quality and bang-for-buck is. I got a 6600GT in my machine at the moment, and it's plenty fast for the price; before that I had a 9600XT.) Old technology? Your grandmother is old technology. 7x00 has more pipelines and IMO better support for SM3.0, hence its more "future-proof". In 12 months, who gives a rats ass which gpu has more headroom. I'll probably sell my 7800GT before that, and get a next-gen card, whatever it may be. Forfit
@reticulatingsplines To me, that means that ATI's new chip has more room to fail. If Nvidia is using "Old technology" then that would mean they are familiar with what they are working with know how to make it work nice. Say if BMW came out with a Truck, it probably wont be up to par with a ford or chevy, and BTW, i wish i had a 6600gt im still stuck with my 5500fx
anus
Holy sh*t. Nvidia are totally owning ATi's ass these days . That card is even faster than my CPU! I'd love to get one, but $749 is way too much, plus this card will look like a 5200 FX is a couple of months, so no, I'll pass.
