Word problem.

I'm doing some math for school. And I need to write the equations left on the page, and directly across I need to explain what I do.

How can you, in Word, without making a lot of "spaces" write something directly across from it?

Tried using tables? Or Text boxes perhaps.

You could go Format > Columns and make a 2 column page, but thats tricky to edit in the way you want to and is not very flexible.

How do you use text boxes?

Sorry for asking so stupid, but I really don't know.

Exactly. It will be a mess doing it that way.

I would say to do it as a table(spreadsheet), then use formattting to remove the lines for the boxes. you should be able to do it by clicking this button:

I am not familiar with word anymore, but it should do it, then once you are done, you can format the cells on the right to align to the right, then format all the cells to have invisible borders

I'm gonna steal your image for a sec, sip...

You see those triangle things? Those are called carets. What you're gonna want to do is MOVE the bottom caret to where you want the second column to be. Wherever you move it is where you'll type text a second time when you hit tab.

like so:

I guess Gates is brilliant after all...

Don't give Gates too much credit. More than likely he "stole" Word, and the rest of the Office Suite, from someone else...just like he did DOS, Windows and everything else.

Now to the topic

I would use the table or text box, other wise you end up with colums throughout the page and you may not want that. The table and text box I believe will allow you to wrap body text around them.

Here's an example

Note 2 things. First I'm using OpenOffice because I don't have MSOffice, but the same idea still holds true. Second the text box (in OO it's Insert->Frame) I changed the border to look like that so that it will stand out, I could have just as easily made it show with no border. And also by using this I can move it around any where in the doc even in the middle of the body text which will warp around it.
