RULES OF VEHICLE TALK

- updated 05.01.07

I noticed that since the forums are back half of new posts here (in bumped topics since the one week offline) were nothing but flame posts.

I think that some RULES were needed then to keep the forum ontopic and avoid n00bish attitude that seems to be installed here now.

And i'm pretty surprised that not only new members are concerned.

THE RULES

1. No flaming. You know what it is, i don't need to explain again. If not, Forum rules guide is your friend.

2.No "my car is better than yours talk". Actually, people drive what they can afford, sometimes it's sh*tty, sometimes it's pure fun. Don't expect forumers to be billionnaires or sharing the same tastes than you.

3. No car flaming, ie "the car you talk about is a piece of sh*t". You cannot prove that THIS is the best. Actually, as said in 2, it's a matter of opinion. Constructive criticism is allowed of course, based on CONSTRUCTIVE remarks. Unless you haven't driven a clio/micra you can't really say it handles bad, unless you have read it in a magazine. I never saw a magazine to state that a clio/micra handles bad either.

Don't forget to compare what's comparable too...

4. As said in 3., We don't need more "america vs Europe vs Japan" topics. Actually, 3 chronological statements can be made out of these:

--------------

- the person who created a topic like this has no clue about the fact that YOU CAN'T compare a 70's muscle with an "import" (wtf is an import, we are on international boards, please, make it clear if you are talking about a Honda Civic or a friggin CL55 AMG).

- from the false statement above people tried to make strong arguments, but obviously failed

- the topic itself became a flamefest about cultural differences. Ethnocentrism is NOT your friend. Sorry.

--------------

5. No one likes "rice", but everybody put aftermarket (not always tasty) things on their cars. Think of what you added to your ride before posting. Otherwise, yes 2F2F yoooo is lame, and it's a common statement. Period

6. Use the search button. Several "general XXXXXX topics" were made. Think on bumping them if you want to contribute. Also, if you have something interesting to share but you think it doesn't deserve it's own topic, post in GenCar Talk, or others.

What does not deserve a topic

-------------------

- "i have a new car" with no pics of YOUR car

- "General not well known brand topic" You will have 7 replies, or less. Where is "general" for?

- rule #4 topics

- A specific car model topic with senseless reply inside. Ex: a topic about camaros, with "Camaroz r cool" inside.

-------------------

7. Be comprehensive and tolerant. As you saw in #4, no more arguing about which continent is better. Still, trying to discover other continents' car cultures is not forbidden. You obviously know how it works with cars in your country, you are even perhaps proud of your national crafstmanship but try to think that other people could think differently, have a different car culture, and are not judging cars with the same values as you do. Sometimes, you may be wrong, even. This is where the word tolerance comes into play: be cool with others. And others should not jump on you either. It's called tolerant common sense. I will enforce this rule if needed.

8. The good way to post a new topic: Related topic here

9. As said in 4. first alinea: Avoid using IMPORT/DOMESTIC(muscle or other)/EXOTIC to describe cars. We are on international boards, for me a CL55 is an imported car and i haven't seen nowhere palms last time i took a pic of an Enzo.

10. If you enter in a quarrel with another member about cars (see Car talk pg 131/132 - Dup & *gta star* about Mercedeses), take it to PM please. Once you are sorted one is allowed to post the whole log in one reply. This measure is taken to avoid spam

It's alright Pav, I make words up too. tounge.gif

But yeah, we do need some rules in here, the little scuffle between JJHW, Dup, and Macintire Sniper kind of brought it to the attention of anyone who went into those topics. Good job on them, but when people break them, it'd be a warning>warning>temp ban>they're fuct, Right?

Actually it's up to global moderators while it comes to reported posts.

While it's rule breaking without reports, i'm dealing that.

- warning>warning if there is no previous info about rule breakage by this member, then report to a global moderator.

- simple warning if he broke the rules previously, then report to a global moderator.

Good job on the rules, I have noticed posts "My car is better than yours", just no need for it really. I actually thought some Rules were needed around here and I was going to PM you about it but you got to it before me. tounge.gif

Good work. wink.gif

Yea, I should probably be banned from Vehicle Chat by now.

There is no "tolerant common sense" either in other peepz replies or in yours. So no, you shouldn't be banned. The rule 7 is way more subtile than people may think.

Ok, i think that Vehi Chat needs a small revamp.

And... as it's all about users' (in this case, members') experience, i need your opinion!

STICKY

Should we pin more threads? If so which ones? Should we unpin something?

DIRECTORY

In the first page i added some links a while ago for some interesting, worth to see topics. Please browse page 2,3,4,5 of this forum and suggest me some threads i might add on the first page.

Also, do you think that some "general" threads are needed for matters that are asked frequently here and that don't have thier own dedicated topic (result> 4+ topics on a similar theme). If so, which ones?

Thank you

I think the post a pic of your car thread should stay pinned. If you take it down, it'll get lost as it's not generally active and people will make their own threads more often.

As for pinnable topics, maybe the car news or chat topic? Just for easier finding when needed. Maybe spotted?

But you HAVE to pin the " FAST CARS MOST OF WORLD" thread. With a title so perfectly put, how could you not? tounge2.gif

lurchseesu420

I'd unpin the "guess the car game" topic. Without the "Post a pic of your car" topic, people will just make more and more topics whenever someone new comes along (it still happens anyway). The Car News and Car Talk topics might be good things to pin, but I'm not sure.

Unless you haven't driven a clio/micra you can't really say it handles bad

You may want to correct that "haven't" -> "have" , otherwise it seems that Micra drivers aren't reliable people to comment on Micras. suicidal.gif
