GTA Advance FAQ

Introduction

Hello all GTA Advance users, and admirers alike. As we all know, GTA Advance is a top-down game, based on GTA3. In my opinion, it's even better than some gtas, such as GTA1, or GTA: London 1969. Also very good for a hand-held game. There has been many unanswered questions on this forum, and I decided to answer them all in one topic.

Links

Here are some cool and useful links:

http://www.gtaadvance.com - GTANet's GTA Advance website!

http://www.gamefaq.com - Great for reviews, and previews on the next GTA's, and more.

http://www.ign.com - Very useful website, all about games.

http://www.rockstargames.com - The GTA Advance's developers and programmers' website.

Q = Question

A = Answer

Q: So yeah, I bought GTA Advance. But I wanted to know if there are any cheats for it. Are there any?

A: Yes, there actually is a list of cheats. You can find them here.

Q: Cool, but I am also having a hard time finding hidden packages! Is there any place I can go to that explains their locations?

A: Yes. There is a guide explaining their exact locations, and a map explaining it all. You can find it here.

Q: Is there going to be a sequal to the GTA Advance?

A: We really do not know. GTA Advance wasn't that much of a hit, so probably not. (even though I love it, and would love if another one was made)

Q: I can't beat the game! Help!

A: I myself found the game very easy to beat. But you can find a strategy guide here. In there you'll see some more cheats too, and some hidden packages although there's a topic about it on this forum.

Q: What about gangs? Does the game have any gangs in it?

A: Yes. Most of the GTA3 gangs are here: Yardies, Cartel, Yakuza, Mafia, along some others. And on GTA Advance, there's no respect-o-meter in it, but you can get ran by and shot at, if you kill any gang member. (thanks to fred for this answer)

Q: There must be a debug mode, or hidden cheats... right?

A: Well, we haven't found anything. Maybe some of the cheat masters that found hidden cheats for GTA: San Andreas can find hidden cheats for the game. But none have even tested. So yeah, no Debug Mode or Hidden Cheats for now.

Q: Where is the game set?

A: The game is set in Liberty City.

Q: Are the Maps the same as in GTA3 or have they been completely redesigned? Would I recognize it?

A: Yes, the map is still the same. But since it's top-down, it's not very easy to recognise. Maybe if you played GTA3 on the top-down camera, yes.

Q: What prevents me from reaching the other islands early in the game?

A: The islands, as in any other GTA game, are unlocked as you do the missions.

Q: In what year is the game set?

A: The game is set one year before GTA3. Which would be 2000.

Q: Who do I play as?

A: The main character is Mike who works for the Mafia at the beginning, but wants to leave Liberty City. He stays to find out who planted a bomb in his friend(Vinnie)'s car.

Q: Do some characters reappear from other GTAs?

A: Yes - 8-Ball, Asuka Kasen and King Courtney (who were in GTA3) all appear. Vinnie might be the same one from Liberty City Stories.

Q: Have any features been left out or new ones included?

A: Because of it being a GBA, they have down-sized the number of cars, and there will be no motorcycles(?).

Q: Is free-roam always available between the missions? Does this continue after the final mission?

A: Free roam is available between missions. But it doesn't continue after the final mission.

Q: I hear that 8-Ball gets burned and arrested during the game. Am I supposed to believe this is directly related to his appearance in GTA3?

A: Yes. He should meet Fido/Claude/GTA3 Guy in prison later, before they escape on the convoy that led to the callahan bridge explosion.

And To Wrap It Up

And that is all folks. I've done this guide so you don't need to search some. So yeah, that's really it, and it's basically all you need to know about GTA Advance.

Thanks for viewing!

Q: Can we play it on PSP?

A: To play on the PlayStation Portable, you need the 2.0 version. If you have the 1.5, you need to download wab's version changer.

Good topic. I have some questions which are more for people like me. People who will probably never play it but want to know how it fits in with the GTA world. I know that I can get most of these answers from the above links, but you might want to add some here. Some of the answers are well known and obvious, but I think they are worth putting in to an FAQ. My answers are what I believe, but might not be correct.

The Questions:

Q: Where is the game set?

A: Liberty City - 3 Islands (Portland, Staunton Island & Shoreside Vale?

Q: Are the Maps the same as in GTA3 or have they been completely redesigned? Would I recognize it?

A: ????

Q: What prevents me from reaching the other islands early in the game?

A: ????

Q: In what year is the game set?

A: I believe this is about a year before GTA3, so 2000?

Q: Who do I play as?

A: The main character is Mike who works for the Mafia at the beginning, but wants to leave Liberty City. He stays to find out who planted a bomb in his friend's car.

Q: Do some characters reappear from other GTAs?

A: Yes - 8-Ball, Asuka Kasen and King Courtney (who were in GTA3) all appear. Vinnie might be the same one from Liberty City Stories.

Q: Have any features been left out or new ones included?

A: ????

Q: Is free-roam always available between the missions? Does this continue after the final mission?

A: ????

Q: I hear that 8-Ball gets burned and arrested during the game. Am I supposed to believe this is directly related to his appearance in GTA3?

A: ?????

Those are the sort of questions I would like in the FAQ.

@ Gohan_14 - Thanks. Jimi actually answered most of those last week when he edited the first post, but there were a few extra bits I didn't know.

So there's not some made up story-related reason for not getting to the other islands? Nothing like "broken bridge" or "hurricane alert" or something?

Are you sure King is killed? The script on GameFaq's doesn't state that -

Script

KING: I'm sending you to the other side, mon.

MIKE: We'll see about that, King.  Time to bring out the big guns.

After killing more of them

KING: Tribulation!  You're a nasty one!  Stay still and let me shoot you!

MIKE: Keep your thugs coming, King.  They're no match for me.

After killing more men

KING: It's time, mon.  Prepare to meet your maker.

MIKE: I'm putting you down for good.

After hurting King

KING: Stay, Mike, stay!  I'm all stressed out and there's no fight left in me.

KING: You're the victor, mon.

MIKE: Damn, it's finally over.

MIKE: I can get out of this city with the money I have left and never look

MIKE: back.  There's nothing but bitter memories here.
