Hunter¥
Devyl, I know you can overclock a 3800+ to 4800+, but if he gets a 4800+ processor, think how much more he can overclock. If he overclocks wisely he could get about 5800+. Think about it . The 4800+ is nice, but I say stay with the 3800+ because AMD's new socket, called "M2" gets released next year, and if this thing is gonna be upgraded later, why not wait until the price drops on the 4800's to buy it? I plan on updating frequently, so that makes alot of sense. A 4800+ would be great but you also take into account the fact that I want to get to playing Battlefield 2 as soon as humanly possible. Also: I've found this site, which has the 7800 GT OC for 75 bucks less. So that's good. And I've desided that I'll buy everything, but with only one of the gfx card. Then when I have the other 500-ish dollars, I'll just order that, and have the computer 500 dollars sooner. Thanks for the tutorials, Warlord. I'm going to do everything I can to get the proformance out of this thing. But I'm still wery about building the PC myself. I could everything except place the cpu on the mobo. I've heard too many bad storys to do it myself. I'd rather just pay someone experienced 10 bucks to do a job that would probably end up costing me bigtime. And if I happen to have alot of money to burn I'll sell the 3800+ cpu and buy the 4800+ or something better. But then again I need money for the Xbox 360, which I'm going to try and find somewhere to preorder within the next 1.5 months. Majestic
Today, if you buy anything more powerful then a 7800GTX (i.e. dual 7800GT) then you'll be limited by monitor resolution. Today, there is no point in buying it unless you have a monitor with native resolution of 1600x1200 or more
Hunter¥
When I bought that monitor, it wasn't when flat screens were all that hot. With the bad game proformance and such. But anywho, the monitor is an LG Flatron 777FN Plus. Here's the specs. It's worked fantastic but you guys would know better.
Hunter¥
Dreadfully sorry for the bump. But seeing as the uber ass whooping ATI cards have been reveiled, should I be looking at them instead of the 7800 GT's?
Devyl
no... in short, run AS FAR AWAY from those as possible.
anus
Your rig seems fine, mate. I'd love to have one of those with me. Anyway, like Devyl said, don't even look at the ATi cards, NVidia still owns them and they cost far less. Go with NVidia and NEVER convert to ATI, never. I'd recommend you only get the CPU, cooling fan and heatsink fixed by an experienced guy (PC shop) because you have a hih chance of screwing it up since you're a beginner. Better to be safe than sorry, eh? Remember what I said about fans? If you have some extra cash, get as much fans as you can . Devyl, I guess you're right about the CPU.
