Any suggestions/improvements? Mainly, I want to know if some components will drag down others.

I've been asking alot of help from the local GTAF PC Chat community, and you guys have been probably my best asset for putting this together. So thanks.

Ok so I've basically decided to say to hell with the budget. I have a job now, and I'm going to just have to work my white ass off for a while. And yes, I am willing to drop 700 dollars for that card. For the amount of time I've been working to get this computer it not going to be just mediocre. I've worked way too hard for mediocre.

Lastly, I'd like to know if there will be any new graphics cards coming out soon that will be more powerful than the 7800 GTX.

well, not saying that the current hard drive u selcted wont do the job just fine, but since u're putting alot of money in it u might consider putting extra few bucks in the hard drive with 16 MB of cache

ATI have plans to release a card to compete with it, but at the moment it's the best card you can get.

Also about components slowing others down, the HDD will slow others down, not by much but if you want the best preformance you should get a 10,000rpm HDD. Although the drives are expensive and have a low storage capacity, so you'd be better off sticking with what you have in my opinion.

If you want insane power, get two 7800 GT's. It's not completely worth it for 2x GTXs though, better off with GTs. It's like 400US for a single 7800 GT. Look at getting a bigger PSU for SLI too, and if not already, a SLI mobo.

well, hdd's do slow PC's no matter which hdd u have cause they are still based on a mechanical mechanism, which lacks in speed compared to other, electronic parts of the PC

2 gigs of memory, and AMD Athlon 64 x2, and Hitachi 250 gig SATA II and you'll be set man smile.gif

The dual-core Athlons aren't exactly considered ideal gaming processors, are they?

I assume this setup is mainly for gaming purposes?

@maj: How dare you degrade my happiness just as I've decided to invest in a 2x512MB dual channel setup? tounge.gif~az

Actually, I like them better for gaming as you can use one core strictly for gaming while runing, say, dvd-rip & nero & all your other programs on the other core at the SAME time with no slow-down.

Updates:

-2 gigs of RAM. If I'm reading the specs on the mobo right, it can hold four ram sticks. If you think there's a better brand of ram, or if I should use two 1 gb sticks, please say so.

-I picked out a Athlon 64 X2 CPU. Would like to know if I should be getting a more powerful one.

-Found a Hard drive. Looks good. If there's a better one I could be getting on the main site I'm using I'd rather buy everything at once.

-I'd like some suggestions on a better PSU. That one I've got on the list, it suppose to be a great one, but then again you guys would know better than me.

-Any brand suggestions on two 7800 GTs? Also how much of a different will there be between two 7800 GT's, two 7800 GTX's, and just a single 7800 GTX.

olol I'm going to have to ask my mom to take out a second mortgage.

It's better to run 2 x 1 gb ram than 4 x 512 sticks as you'll be stuck with 2T timings if you go with 4 sticks. Of course that's just a little memory speed, but if you're going for the whole she-bang, go with 2 1 gig sticks.

Also, the difference between the 7800GT & GTX is the GT runs a little slower in the clocks department and has 4 pipes (20 compared to the GTX's 24) disabled. No one has been able to unlock them yet. However, in an SLi config, 2x7800GT's is more than enough for what anyone really needs as of this moment.

As far as brands? Go with either eVGA (lifetime warranty, even if you remove the stock cooler or damage the GPU from OC'ing... as long as nothing PHYSICAL is wrong with the GPU its'self, they'll fix it for ya) or BFG with their double lifetime warranty (not only you, but the person to own it after you gets full coverage)

The updated setup looks awesome, and if you're willing to spend some cash on this PC, I'd recommend you get an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+, those are the fastest atm, and would be really awesome to run games and stuff on.

For the memory, from what I've heard, Corsair is one of the best, so I think you should be getting some Corsair sticks and like the others said, you may have problems with foru 512 Mb sticks, so go ahead with two 1 GB sticks.

From what I've heard, the performance gain of having two SLIed cards are 1.9x, so you'll gain that much of a boost with two of 'em. And 7800 GT is just the normal card, GTX is just a method of earning cash imo, GTs were great for N Vidia all the time and it's much more worth for the cash.

You should really get atleast a 550-600 watt PSu since you'll be needing it for future upgrading and stuff. Antec is a good brand too.

I never saw a cooling fan in your list, are you going with the stocks? Would be pretty stupid if you are.

Actually, the 4800+ is as good a gamer as the 3800+ is, just a little more Mhz. If he's a decent overclocker and gets a good chip, he could probably hit the 4800+ speeds w/ the 3800+.

Frequency: 2.4 Ghz

L2 Cache per core: 1MB

Frequency: 2.0 Ghz

L2 Cache per core: 512KB

That's the spec difference. If I can make a half ass attempt to overclock it, I'll sleep happy. I mean it's a difference of 600 bucks/2 paychecks for something that might teach me something.

Tigerdirect.ca Cart

That link might not work so: 2 of these. and one of these.

I'm sure that's the hard drive that was suggested.

Are those RAM sticks alright?

Edit: Btw, can someone direct me to a beginners guide for overclocking? tounge.gif

Edit 2: I need help picking a specific PSU. I only picked the one I did because of a magazine review.

Edit 3:

My case has a 3, 120 mm fans. If you think I need some more could you point me in the right direction? smile.gif

Edit 4: Here's the case with all the cooling info. I haven't got a clue about the cpu's, videocard's, psu's, or motherboard's cooling equipment.

These guys friendly? tounge.gif I know nothing. I mean I'm probably not even going to set the cpu on the mobo, because I'm afraid I'll fry both. Do you think I should just spend the extra money? Or get one of the really good cpus. Such as.

May i suggest This Powersupply?

It looks like it might be everything you need.

BTW, Lifetime warranty NEVER means LIFETIME. It means that as long as they make the card, it will be under warranty. Anyway, everything looks good. As I said, get 2x7800GT's as it's much better value than getting 1x7800GTX as it's like an extra 200 or so for 2 GTs. I'd recommend a minium 500w PSU, so get over 600w to be safe.

How... just need to clear up that thing with the cpu. Will the X2 3800+ suffice for gaming? Or should I consider going to the bank and applying for a second mortgage?

Yeah! A bloody Athlon 64 2800+ would be good enough for gaming wink.gif But dual core will come in handy when multi threaded games come out. And they wont bottleneck your SLI either. Get on MSN.

Hmmm. I thought it was the same with all lifetime warranties. Maybe in 2070 when Hunter¥'s 7800's break, he can get a new one! biggrin.gif

Here are some beginners guides to overclocking as you requested :

One,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six (A whole database),

Seven.

And for the fans, three of those fans are enough, but the cooler the better, I'm not saying it's a must, I'm just saying that you'll get better performance, longer life and more performance after overclocking if you have extra coling, so if you have some extra bucks left after you buy your PC, get the best fan you can for the cash, again, this is not a must.

Devyl, I know you can overclock a 3800+ to 4800+, but if he gets a 4800+ processor, think how much more he can overclock. If he overclocks wisely he could get about 5800+. Think about it wink.gif.

And since you said you don't know nothing about building a PC, here are some guides :

One,

Two,

Three,

Four,

Five,

Six.

The 4800+ is nice, but I say stay with the 3800+ because AMD's new socket, called "M2" gets released next year, and if this thing is gonna be upgraded later, why not wait until the price drops on the 4800's to buy it?
