SWEETSAPRIK
What would the best setting be then? The biggest file is "usually" the best quality. But "best for you" depends on a bunch of things. The main two are 1. The quality of your video before WMM opened it. 2. Your connection speed. I for instance have dial-up and anything bigger than 20mb would take me like an hour to upload. (which I don't feel like doing) On my version of WMM it tells you the approximate size in MB that the video will be. So I usually go with the biggest file that I can stand to upload. However not knowing the quality of your source video I'd say make a few movies out of the same footage. Meaning record the biggest one and then when you're done just save the same movie again with different settings. You might find that some movies have smaller file sizes but look the same. Example: the other day I made a vid and the choices were 15mb, 7mb, or 4mb but the 15mb movie looked almost exactly the same as the 7mb movie. And there is no reason to have a bigger file if the quality isn't better. PяopagaиdaIиc.
Mxyzptlk
When I export my project to a video file, I choose "best fit to size" rather than a particular preset. This optimizes the size and speed of transfer for people downloading the movie; and it doesn't change my resolution from 640x480. If you want best quality and 640x480, in other settings, you can choose "large video, variable bitrate" (or some similar name).
Moonkea
Then I'll snoop around and see what I can do. Thanks. Again. Like I always say. Because thats the person I am...
peter_magenheimer
Yes, Variable Bit Rate (VBR) usually produces the best quality results with a low file name. It dramatically cuts down on the file size by lowering the bit rate during "black areas" and low-motion scenes, and using higher bit rates for scenes with more action and color. Just in case you wanted to know...

Mxyzptlk
Any suggestion for laptop. Any of the USB 2.0 external video capture devices should work fine (as long as your laptop has USB ports).

I have a ATi 9600 XT, and the things it has on the back are a white outlet, an S-Video outlet, and a blue monitor outlet thing. I got a MadCatz cable with an S-Video cable on it. I plugged it from my PS2, to my graphics card. Will this work?

I don't think so, you need two cards to record video.. a graphics card like all computers have (which I think you are talking about) and a video capture card (or tv tuner card). If you have a capture card, you should be able to record directly from PS2 with your s-video cable and the software provided with your card. Kingjad
Hang on...ok, bare with me on this one, folks. I have an SCART video lead thingymabob, I got that. And Windows XP should have a bloody decent graphics card, I'm sure it does. Could I play my PS2 onto the PC, even though I can't record footage? I don't believe so, without the video capture card, your computer can't take an image from external device and render it visably on the the computer screen. Mxyzptlk
European TVs are all PAL, 25fps, you can set the capture rate for 25fps and there should be no problems. You might post in San Andreas Theatre topic and ask "what USB device are the UK video makers using?"

turtle dick
Ok, Since I have never seen a capturing device (or even heard about it except over here), this may be a stupid question but anyway: Do you actually need a television to make vids? Or can you just connect the PS2 to the computerscreen and start capturing? Again, stupid question, I know...
Mxyzptlk
Thank you for bumping this topic rather than spamming the Theatre with technical questions! No you don't need a television for video capture. My PS2 connects straight to my video card, the television isn't even in the same room.
