This is the question id like to know, what do people think is funnier, The Simpsons, or Family Guy. In my opinion The Simpsons is because i feel that famiy guy sort of ripped off the simpsons with the personalitys of some characters.

Used to love Simpsons back in the day, but Family Guy is now the better of the two shows.

The simpsons is feeling stale while Family guy still feels fresh and can leave me in stichs.

I think Groovy pretty much said it. Even after 4 seasons, Family Guy still cracks me up, and has fresh material. It's more adult humour, rather than predictable Simpsons humour.

Family Guy has too many of those irrelevant references. You know, someone on the show says: "Oops, this is almost as bad as I [insert the mistake here]" and then it switches to a new scene with that person doing something that is humorous. Granted, they sometimes get me to chuckle, but the joke is way too expected, and since it is out of context anyway it just isn't as funny. And I don't hate that way of getting a joke out, but when you use it 20 times an episode it really gets repetitive.

That's why I like the (old) Simpsons better; they are just more original and funny without resorting to being completely random.

But sadly, Simpsons started to go for the worse, so now the leader of the two is Family Guy. So I don't know, they're both pretty good.

Family Guy is the best thing to happen to animation since South Park. The use of obscure flashbacks and brief side stories is just brilliant comedy, although there are a lot of references that younger generations (at least under 18) probably aren't going to catch.

The Simpsons lost their way back in the 90's and haven't gained full force since. They became way too dependent on guest voices and cameos almost as a substitute for sustainable plot. When they gave Kid Rock a guest spot, that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. And then they went way below the belt with Nsink. Douche bags.

The Simpsons has definetly worn it's welcome and live in the shadow of it's former self. Family Guy is definetly funnier now than the simpsons. The Simpsons is just running out of ideas, they've touched on every single subject they could, and now Family Guy is taking it's crown. The Simpsons should just go out on top (in reality, that would have been 4-5 years ago) and let family guy rightfully take over as the new king of primetime comedy.

Like them both. But the family guy edges by.

There is no contest, Simpsons owns Family guy.

In Family Guy, the same material is reused in every single show, they have an obscure 60's-70's reference, a "Pinky and the brain" world domination stint from Stewey and a flashback to a dumb sh*t joke.

Simpsons is a long running show, they may run out of ideas occassionally, but almost every single Simpson's episode I laugh out loud.

Depends if we're going by the newer or older episodes of The Simpsons.

Older, Simpsons. I've seen the old episodes countless times, and they still manage to draw more laughs out of me than any episode of Family Guy.

Newer, Family Guy. Because anything beats the newer Simpsons. They really should have pulled the plug about 4 years ago.

Same material every show? Have you actually even watched Family Guy?

I'm definately going for Family Guy, the older Simpsons might have been great but Family Guy is beyond great. Some of the episodes really have me in stitches and the writing is superb

Peter: A boat's a boat, but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat! You know how much we wanted one of those!

(5 Minutes later in the car)

Peter: Hey it's not the stupidest thing i've ever done, You remember that time I was supposed to get that boat?

*Flashback*

Peter: A boat's a boat, but the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat! You know how much we wanted one of those!

*Back to Car*

Lois: Peter that happened ten minutes ago

And of course theres such random scenes as

Guy on Street #2: It's 3:00. Where the hell is Louie?

Guy on Street #1: Well, you tell me. Louie left his house at 2:15 and had to travel a distance 6.2 miles traveling at a rate of five miles a hour. When will Louie get here?

Guy On Street #2: Depends if he stops to see his ho.

Guy on Street #1: That's what we call a "variable".

"New" Simpsons doesn't suck. Simpsons has been getting a lot better after all the damage Scully did. I've noticed it's been quite a trend to note that new Simpsons episodes aren't as good as the old ones, when that is true for any successful show. Simpsons wasn't canceled after 2-3 seasons like Family Guy and Futurama, and was really an immediate hit. After such exposure it's hard to get better than it already is, and people will only get a bad taste from the newer episodes.

I like how people will refer to a small time of the Simpsons as "sucking" when all of that time was the same sh*t Family Guy has now. I'm not saying it sucks, I'm just saying it didn't fit into the Simpsons.

No, Simpsons used to do clever political quips and use hyper irony in effective ways to show how American family's are portrayed in the media. They made sure to include every stereotype they could think of in the town of Springfield. They have lost that touch. These days Simpsons copies Family Guy randomness and fails at it, the jokes aren't intelligent nor funny.

Family Guy rules the coop for now, but it won't be long before it runs dry.

From the 2 most recent episodes, my favorite lines are

Lois: Peter look at this wonderful news!

*Peter takes news paper*

Peter: "200 die in train derailment" oh lois that is just morbidally obese

and

With all the money, I can finaly make my own Christmas CD!

"And now, a Peter Griffen Christmas"

Peter does some

Egh, I cant do it, here is a ytmnd explaining it

http://petergriffinxmas.ytmnd.com/

http://familyguyripsoffthesimpsons.ytmnd.com/

This is exactly the stuff I hate, the "OMG family guy copies Simpsons!!!". Yeah, they had a few similar plots, oh no the world will end.

Some old simpsons were funny, like Sherry Bobins and Mr Sparkle, but now they just arent as good.

Simpsons USED to be better, but they went down. Way down.

Like, farther than hell down.

Yeah Family Guy is better. The jokes never get old and I usually find myself even with the new ones laughing hysterically at least at two points in the show (If I only laugh like that at two points in the show then it wasn't a very good episode to me).

I was one of those people who thought that the Simpsons had gone downhill. And they kinda have. After 15+ seasons, it's hard to be original and tackle issues you haven't before. But they're not doing a bad job. The latest cemetary episode made me laugh my ass off. I've realized something, though.

Old Simpsons:

-Stranger, looser animation.

-Simpsons constantly got into outlandish situations.

-Constantly found ways out of the situation.

New Simpsons:

-Outsourced animation.

-Homer is extremely f*cking stupid.

-Simpsons constantly get into outlandish situations.

-Constantly find ways out of the situation.

The only problem that nowadays you can't see a simpsons advert without "SPECIAL GUEST: INSERT RANDOM CELEBRITY!".

If you're upset about teh quality of today's episodes, go buy the Bart of Darkness DVD. Class.

As for Family Guy: I f*cking love it. They're completely different styles of shows, no matter how often they may cover the same issue. The Simpsons has comedic bits happen in real time. Family Guy makes a reference to some cultural event/TV show/random thing and they do a flashback to the event. It works well for them.

As for the FG vs. Simpsons issue: Go read the latest issue of MAD.

Family Guy is the top dog at the moment, hands down. The Simpsons still has it's moments, but it's become to polished, too relaxed, topo reliant on supporting characters, with little to no change whatsoever.

Family Guy's incredibly fresh and - above all else - ballsy.

To cut from the end of an episode to the end of Dallas was ingenious.

Not to mention dragging Chris into an "Aha" music video for an excruciatingly long time JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN.

Like I said, top dog for now. It definately owes a lot to the original Adult Swim creations, especially Space Ghost C2C, but what good comedy DOESNT owe inspiration to something else.

I think the Simpsons need to end sometime soon. Story possibilities have just dried up in Springfield.

I just feel that the simpsons is better because look at the characters:

Peter- Fat, most likely partialy retarted like Homer Simpson

Lois- Caring understanding and tolerant wife like Marge

Meg- Smart and unpopular, like Lisa

Plus the simpsons has probably covered most of the things that Family guy has done. But w/e its just my opinion

They both cover the same topics because they both play with the traditional format of sitcom TV - some of these plotlines have been done by every sitcom out there.

First of all, it has been established that Peter IS mentally retarted.

As for Lois, she is about the opposite of Marge. Last time I checked Marge doesnt go on stealing rampages, take a saddle to her gardening club at 10:30 at night, or has done KISS.

Meg is also pretty stupid, not smart like Lisa. Lisa doesnt exploded at Homer "I'm not a dog you fat b*stard!".

And no, well maybe the first season, Simpsons has in no way done what Family Guy has done.

I think The Simpsons are better, but Family Guy is funnier.

And although it's not in this discussion, Futurama falls somewhere between both of the mentioned shows.
