I say since GTA3 was like 2 discs on the pc and a cd is like 650mb so GTA3 was around 1.3 gigs in size. and the UMD can hold 500mb more so they can put all of those hours upon hours of music so i think they will use all of the space in it, does nyone have a diffrent opinion?

That UMD is gonna be packed, I think GTA:LCS is going to be the biggest (in size) game out for the psp. I say probably around 1.6-1.8gigs. This game is gonna kick ass!

Anyway I am pretty sure all of the UMD will be taken up because the space is limited and the music and sound will take the most space so yeah it will be packed as much as possible.

Yeah well if they are to make a sequal on psp then they will use about 1.4 gigs. Then a bigger game can use more space. Though (I don't know if it's possible) if they make it a dual layer UMD then that woudl mean 3.6 gigs. Which would be VERY cool.

Missions in GTA games take up almost no space compared to everything else. Disk space is not the limiting factor in determining how many missions will end up in the game.

Didn't PC version of GTA3 have enhanced textured compared to PS2 version? So it would not make sense to use size of the PC version of GTA3 to predict the size of LCS. Does anyone have a PS2 version the size of which they can check?

In either case, there should be plenty of space on UMD to use for some extra stuff. Yes, music will probably take up a bit more space than on GTA3, but even then there should be some extra space. Maybe that is one of the reason why they descided to expand the Shoreside Vale.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

I think that it would be closer to size to Vice City than GTA3, because it seems more simular to VC's engine rather III's engine. With the size extension of SSV, it would probably be about that same size as Vice's map too.

I do however believe that the textures, etc. will be of lower quality, even lower than the PS2's. Therefore I think that the game itself including textures, but excluding Audio would come to about 500MB, plus about another 500MB for the Audio.

All speculation though. It's anyone's guess... who knows??

actually the PC version of Vice City is 849 MB (without radio) in my unmodified install. I would anticipate that LCS would be about the same, though I understand that PS2 textures are more compressed (might be wrong on this) and would assume the same on PSP, but that won't make more than 50MB of difference.

That leaves roughly a gig for music, at 1.5MB for 1 min of MP3 at 192kbps, allows for 11 hrs of radio.. now, Rockstar COULD save some of that for a sequel, but if they're clever, and I think they are, they could make a really smart move in future by supplying audio on a CD/DVD to be transferred onto a memory card and have your favorite radio stations only.. then they could fit LC, VC, San An, Carcer City and more on the PSP and make the biggest GTA ever on the smallest console, then I could quit my job, become a amphetamine addict and never play another game again. Indeed, they could up the anti and make the driving like Burnout Revenge, have millions of street races, make it a MMORPG with gangs of real people territories, develop a virtual boy style 3D headset using two PSP's (one to output each screen on the headset) and I'd never engage in real life again. bring on the true next generation of gaming!
