Hell No..
Well yeah, not to much I can say here. The PC just randomly restarts itself now and then. Like just now, I was on for about 5 - 10 minutes, browsing IGN and click, it just shuts off. Im running Spybot now, and I will probably do a Spydoctor and Nortons. But its been happeneing for a while, and once it restarts it comes up with the Error box saying "Microsoft experienced a "something" encounter" etc. Helly. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Cran.
Send an error report. It'll tell you whats wrong. My cable modem did the same thing with some screwy drivers.

AZAZEL
Could also be overheating. Could be a lot of things. But theck them temperatures now that you're at it. Everest Home Edition download. ~az
vALKYR
If that doesn't work, get memtest86 and try testing your RAM. Run it 2 times and see whether it gives out any errors.
anus
This happened to me once too, I just went into the BIOS and checked the CPU fan revolving speed and it was at 0 RPM. Yor fan could be dead.
Hell No..
Ok guys, ill give them a check. Thanks. @Val, I had Mem tests before, it was on for like 5 hours and did like 0.5%. Edit - Hmm, its got really loud, and making a scraping like noise while loading. Its not loud, but I can hear it. Edited September 23, 2005 by Hell No.. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Mar
That sounds like a virus to me. I knew someone with it once, and they constantly bitched about it. Yup, they never got rid of it either. <3 Tricycle Propaganda Monster FBI Connection <

It definetly sounds like something in your computer has a fan rubbing on something. Go into the motherboard or run a fan monitor and see if anything is spiking or if a temperature is really high. riccbhard
I agree; the scraping sounds like a fan. RAM isn't mechanical and wouldnt make that noise. This program MIGHT work for viewing fan RPMs: (depends on if it can autodetect the fan sensors) http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php To download click the link in blue that says "SpeedFan 4.26". Wolf68k
You need to check the config for SpeedFan. It looks like it's only showing the HDD temp, which is perfectly fine btw If you use Everest as azazel. suggested before. Go to Comptuer->Sensors Under the Temperatures listing you'll get whatever is in your system with a temp sensor telling what temps they are

Hell No..
You think? Your sure it isnt the fan? It says 0 RPM up there. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Come say Hi. https://www.twitch.tv/priceyryan
anus
It shows 0 RPM in the BIOS, eh? I think the best thing to do now would be to borrow or buy an extremely cheap fan and fit it in and check the RPM in the BIOS, or you could just turn off the PC, remove the PSU from it's original place and place it somewhere else (like on the drive covers), or hold it and then you'll get a clear view on the CPU fan. Then turn on the PC and check whether the fan works. Good luck !
Hell No..
There are cheap fans for the computer on Ebay, Im thinking on just getting one just incase. But ill have a look in a bit. maelstrom
If it is a standard 60mm fan on your heatsink, a cheap fix would be to get something like these: Mad Dog - Funnel Maxx 60mm to 80mm Adapter $3 Cooler Master - Dual Ball Bearing Case Fan $6 Has worked for me a few times in the past, when I am too lazy to replace the whole heatsink, or maybe I was too cheap to shell out the $20, or both! another benefit is may be a bit quieter than the stock cpu fan. Hell No..
Right, it just shut off again. I will take it apart shortly. Oh, and how do I find out what size fan I would need? Im looking at some and they say 80mm, 120 mm etc etc. Edited September 25, 2005 by Hell No.. I'm on Twitch! Are you? anus
It all depend on the processor and heatsink size I guess, just remove the fan and look at the labels and stuff and you'll get a size mentioned, then just get that size, or you could just post your processor and we can tell which size you need. Hell No..
Hmm maybe. Infact, I found the cause of the loud noise all the time. It was the fan cover. When I took it off, it went really quiet. But when I took it off and restarted the com, it would only go past the Dell loading screen and ask me to press F1 to continue, or F2 for the menu. I press F1, and click, shuts off. Every time. Untill I put the cover back on, now its fine. So I guess it wont be staying off now. I'm on Twitch! Are you? anus
So, it works fine now? The fan turns properly? It doesn't restart? Edit : Just read your post thoroughly. Good to see it nworks, even though the solution was weird . Edited September 26, 2005 by Warlord.
Hell No..
I dont know about it turning off, because that hasnt happened yet. And its not sorted, we cant use the com if the fan cover is off, so the rattling will have to stay for now. I'm on Twitch! Are you?
