Pkmn Red

Well I'm playing throgh Pokemon Red once again(just for kicks) and something odd happened whilest doing the Missigno. thing. It was normal for wild Pokemon to appear at +100 levels and weird stuff.

But today, when I was already surfing at Cinabar's edge something new happened.

"Gentleman wants to fight".

He had 6 Pokemon, all of them level 30-32, the music changed to something I have never heard before (in my 5 years of Pokemon playing) there were 2 Missigno.-like ones, one Missigno., 2 Nidorinos and a Flareon. Only Missigno. and Flareon had their names correct, the rest had only f*cked up stuff, numbers, etc. Oh, and a Nidorino attacked me with TM42. When the fight was over, there was no line like there always is (eg: "Oh, I lost") and I got about 2400 cash. Also the item(the one targeted to be multipplied) was multipplied as if the glitch had worked.

I know this game is so damn old, but anyway, I guess a fair amount of people played/enjoyed it at it's time. So, any comments on this?

Btw, it happened twice today. If it keeps happening I'll record and upload it so anyone interested can see.

Umm, I thought was a pretty well known glitch.

It multiplies your 7th slot and f*cks your game up.

Win and lose.

You mean 6th slot. It won't f*ck the game up(hasn't f*cked mine). I was doing it intentionally, but fighting someone isn't part of the glitch(or it wasn't).

Oh lords, I remember doing that too years ago. I multiplied the Rare Candies, captured a Muk from that glitch (using a glitched-out masterball) and made it up to level 255. I was such an asshole, I'd nickname my pokemon the names of other pokemon so nobody had a clue what was comming for them. Or I'd name them all the same thing. Hehehe.

Haha, you silly boy. Did you ever find out that when growing a +100 tricked-out Pkmn it went back to Level 100, and stayed there?

yeah i used to have people fight me when i did that thing..i had no clue why but it got really annoying and none of my friends believed me....

Edit: i was playing red version when this kept happening and it never happened when i did it on blue so maybe it is an extra glitch in red version although this is unlikely. Did the same thing happen to anyone using blue?

Edit 2: i cant believe we are talking about pokemon

Missingno. looks like a f*cked up graphic. And the hall of fame thing gets f*cked even if you don't catch it. Anyway, I still enjoy Old School stuff, I mean, I STILL PLAY MY SNES REGULARLY!!!

Misingno.

Wikipedia is almost as cool as Google...

Now, this is so f*cking intersting...

The name of the player has six hexadecimal values in it. The game needs only three "slots" of wild Pokémon data to store this. The wild Pokémon the player encounters along the coast are determined by the third, fifth, and seventh characters of the player's name, while the levels are determined by the second, fourth, and sixth characters, respectively.

Also, the player's name has an influence on what will appear on Cinnabar Island's east coast. For example, if a person decides that his/her name will be all question marks, he/she will run into a trainer on Cinnabar's coast after talking to the Old Man in Viridian City. This is because the more symbols (special characters) a player has in his/her name, the higher the chances are of a trainer appearing on the Cinnabar coast. If a trainer appears, the player will not be able to run away and the trainer has glitch Pokemon that can freeze the player's game. Additionally, the name DXDYDZD is able to grant lv 173 or so Mewtwos. It is easy to exploit, and therefore you shouldn't battle someone named that.

Ahh good times good times

I don't remember ever running into a trainer on the east coast

but I remember the missingno or whatever it was called.

Is it true that if you catch it, it will f*ck up your game bcause I caught it used a rare candy on a lvl 0 and it evolved int o a (sp) Kangaskon. Trueno

Read the link above...

I did experimented with missingno. and M' a lot... like 5 years ago I think...

After you see Misingno. your 6th slot will be corrupted making you have like x151 amount of the item in it. Your Hall of Fame will be truly f*cked up after that. And it is so f*cking cool... corrupted images, names, and even the music changes...

If you ever catch him, have your 6th pokemon slot free, or your game will crash when you're taking it out of Bill's PC.

If you rare candy him, he will evolve into a Kangaskan... with fly attack..

A very intersting fact is that Misingno. is type "BIRD" and not "Flying", Misingno. is the only pokemon type BIRD in the game...

And the maxium level any pokemon will reach is 255, and the game will never have more than 255hours played... because of the hexadecimal programming or something like that (not sure, heard about it)

That would explain why everytime I start a new file I get different "special" pokemons at Cinnabar, and how I never got to fight there before.

Ah, the joys of unprotected memory.

I'm interested about what makes that location prime for glitches. I know of at least three glitches that involve the coast of Cinnabar as a trigger. If I knew anything about the assembly implementation the Game Boy used, I'd look for it myself.

[EDIT]Wikipedia article covers that.
