xrk
Im a beginner with max so Im not sure if this is the right way to fix it but after you apply the unwrap uvw modifier click on edit, then in the edit window go to mapping in the menus at the top and flatten mapping but you might have to move it around in the edit window to get it how you want it. dertyjerzian
wait, be more clear, the texture looks fine in the bottom picked, and must be mapped already. If not it must be UVW-MAPPED, not unwrapped, on the same x y or z as it is in that bottom pic. Unwrap is for tuning it. After it is mapped. The top pic looks as if it's mapped on the wrong axis.
