Sir Sausagedog
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here evercame up with a solution to the problem where Vice City jams when you attempt to play a game... I got a legit copy... It just gets stuck at around 50%... Please if anyone has suggestions help me out... My system is: AMD Athlon 2400+ @ 2.25GHz 512MB DDR 333MHz 80 GB Seagate 7200.8 Sapphire Radeon 9550 with 256 MB Ram Gigabyte GA-7VA
Justin
Does it freeze when you load a game, or when you start a new game? If when you load, you may be attempting to load up a game that was saved using a foreign 'main.scm' file. Try a fresh re-install of Vice City. Demarest
If it were main.scm, it would load further than 50%. I too believe that it's a modded game. However, the author didn't provide ANY of the information we would need, particularly if it worked before, etc. So undoing whatever modding was done is my only advice really. Reinstalling would probably solve that.
Sir Sausagedog
Actually it was a brand new copy... 7th reinstall did the trick... though now it's limited to 640*480... Any suggestions for that one?
Demarest
If your video card and monitor can support more than 640x480--and if VC will install, then they do--you can play greater than 640x480. You just can only change the resolution of GTA's in the opening menu. Once you've started/loaded a game, you can't. You'll have to close it out and fire it back up again. Sir Sausagedog
I've tried... I get the same problem as the dude whos copy shuts down... My card supports 1920*1600, monitor 1600*1240 or something similar
Demarest
Max doesn't tell us anything. You have to choose a resolution that both support. I assume that DirectX will not allow VC to offer you a resolution that doesn't meet those guidelines.
Sir Sausagedog
I know Max Payne and Call Of Duty run at 1200*1024...
mjndrum
It might be due to mods that you have, such as PCJ/Packer spawners, car mods, etc. Try a fresh re-install and see how it goes. That usually does the trick. -mjndrum
Sir Sausagedog
Once again I reinstalled it... same problems as last time... No mods are present either
Demarest
During this entire process, have you deleted My Documents/GTA Vice City User Files/gta-vc.set even once? I would've suggested it earlier, but you were avoiding my input.

Gangsta-Skyro
Are there scrappings on the CD? If there arn't, then go to a frend and try GTA Vice City out. If it will be crashing on 50%, then there are maby troubles in the CD. My system: 2.0 Ghz 64 MB video card 256 MB RAM 40 GB Space and it works. Your PC is better then mine so probably you CD is not good. EDIT: Is this your system: Intel celeron + @ 2.0 Ghz 12MB DDR 333MHz 40GB Seagate 7200.8 Sapphire Radeon 9550 with 256 MB Ram Gigabyte GA-7VA Then the Mhz and 12 MB video card is not good. For Vice City you need: Minimum: 64 MB Video Card 128 MB of RAM and 4 GB free disk space I think..
Roger Crawford
Just to throw an idea out there... Have you tried enabling Windows 98 compatibility mode for V.C.? I had this same problem, and couldn't figure anything out about it. Even using Tech Support. No matter what I tried, it wouldn't work. I figured out that I didn't have compatibility mode on my computer, so I looked up how to enable it, and set V.C. to run in Win98 compatiblility mode. Now it works for me. IF you don't have compatibility mode in windows 2000, try clicking START, then click RUN and type this command into the text box. regsvr32 %systemroot%\apppatch\slayerui.dll (This is how to enable compatibility mode in Windows 2000. You didn't state what OS you're using, but if you use XP, it should be enabled already.) Now right click the desktop icon for V.C, click PROPERTIES, then go to the compatibility tab and set it to run in Win98 mode. Hope it helps you out.
