Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse

Okay, so I bought this wireless keyboard and mouse combination by Microsoft down at Costco.

 

The package came with the Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A, and the Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0.

 

I've been having a little problem of "lag", I guess you could call it. Basically, the problem with the mouse, is that some clicks just won't register. That is, I will click something, and then have to click it again because the base unit didn't pick it up, I guess. Now, this wouldn't be that much of a problem, but it takes forever for clicks to register again, and the really odd thing is that in some moments it will work fine for some programs, but horrible (or not at all in the case of WinRar) in others.

 

The keyboard works a little better, but if I'm gaming or something, the controls will be laggy and not responsive. Now, obviously gaming with wireless equipment isn't the best idea, but I don't game that much anyway. That's just the only problem I have had with the keyboard.

 

So, the wireless base was about 3' from both the keyboard and the mouse, but since then I've moved it and it is now about 1' from the mouse and 2' from the keyboard. I don't know if this has solved the problem or not, but if it hasn't, what do you guys think I could do?

 

Just return the thing and buy a Logitech set?

How far is the base station from your monitor, computer, etc? most wireless sets require the base station be 20 inches from other electronic equipment

Well, that could actually explain it. The base was almost directly under the front of the monitor. I would guess that it's now around 18", and it's been workin fine. I'd move it further away if I could, but because of my desk it's currently stretched as far as it can go.
