millermagic
Well, I did get the compaq set up for dual boot. I have one major problem. It won't work with the monitor. If I use my monitor, XP works great, but if I use the other monitor, the screen goes blank. Any suggestions? It is an older monitor, but I have it set on 800x600 and 16 bit color. vALKYR
Maybe the Monitor doesn't support more colours and dimensions.
millermagic
The monitor would run ME on 1024x768 32 bit color on ME but not 800x60016bit on XP.
Tornado Rex
Try lowering the refresh rate. Right click on your desktop > Properties > Settings (tab) > Advanced (button) > Monitor (tab) From the little pull down menu select a lower refresh rate. ~ Proud Supporter of the Child's Play Charity! | GTANET + Child's Play ~
Bond996
Do you have video drivers installed? As well as possibly monitor drivers?
Wolf68k
Monitor drivers shouldn't matter. All a 'monitor driver' really is for the most part is an inf file that tells Windows what the limits of the monitor is and gives it's a name to display so it looks nice when looking at the settings. If Windows doesn't know the monitor when it's installed, it just uses the "Default Monitor" drivers/settings. Refresh rate would be my bet. If possible put the monitor in question on another system to double check it is infact working.

Windows could have no idea what its dealing with if its a crappy monitor, and without drivers or some other override, not all you to go above a 'safe' setting. I saw it being done on one of my client's computers when Windows couldn't deal with an older LCD, and limited it to 800x600x16.
millermagic
Refresh rate did it. I should have known it was refresh rate. We had that happen at the school before.
