rynoski
OK - I just got GTA San Andreas and im rather displeased at one core game engine attribute. In GTA Vice you turn your mouse and it turns your player. in GTA SA you turn your mouse and whoooaa do you turn? Hell no - the Camera angle turns... GAYYYYYYYYYYY What crackhead decided on that one??? I want to toss this whole game because of it now. I cant even drive because I keep accidentally moving the mouse and screwing the angle. I have hunted high and low in the config settings and cannot turn it off or change it. is there ANY way to get rid of that feature? Any hack, mod, tweak, some group of settings i may have missed - ANYTHING - to turn that crap off and make it like GTA-vice????? Any help is appreciated. Mxyzptlk
I was sure there is an option in the menu to turn on mouse steering.... Someone with experience will help shortly though... EDIT: I just searched the SA section and there are many references to turning on or off mouse steering. I don't have PC version to say where the option is, but it exists. I don't have PC version to say where the option is, but it exists. Mouse steering is not what im after though. That option controls whether you use or do not use your mouse to drive. I use the keyboard to drive. The mouse in camera angle however still operates the same way. You can literally look around a corner before you turn. I hate it already and I've only played 2 hours at most thus far. When you drive in vice the mouse cant be used any longer to control the view. Up and down is not so bad but that whole 360° rotation thing while driving in San Andreas totally sucks. I dont like it while walking either. Basically you can look behind you without ever moving. In vice the mouse was locked to the player. When you moved the mouse in a direction thats what your player did. Now in GTA SanAn you have to counter move your feet to sync up with the mouse. So you can whirl around in view all night but never turn that direction until you hit forward on the keyboard. ACKKKKKK - i cant stand it!!!! I realize I might just be SOL on this one. But if anyone knows of a way to fix this I sure would love to know! Edited September 16, 2005 by rynoski

But if anyone knows of a way to fix this I sure would love to know! If you don't touch the mouse while driving, the camera will follow just like in Vice; it's seriously difficult to bump the mouse while driving. Your hand is on the opposite side of the keyboard! You could look around corners in Vice through proper use of the camera too, and think of looking behind you without moving as looking over your shoulder. As for moving the camera to sync up with where you're heading, just keep playing and you'll get the hang of it. You say you haven't played much of it; well, just keep playing. It's far too great a game to be thrown within the first hour due to camera changes. Personally, I loved the new camera system. It prevented me from accidentally aiming my gun at shop clerks without meaning to, and it was easy as to get used to.
GTA3Freak-2001
Its been ranted on before and honesty I don't see what's the big deal, the game is new and with that comes changes. For me its a improvement.
rynoski
Its been ranted on before and honesty I don't see what's the big deal, the game is new and with that comes changes. For me its a improvement. Just been extremely difficult for me to adjust to. In fact im still trying to adjust to it. Im not sure I will but apparently there is no way to change it. As someone mentioned above the only way not to have it be a problem is to keep your paws off the mouse while driving... which is what I have been doing thus far. Drive-bys become a bit hard to do when you do that but at least i dont turn into walls all the time. Its a big deal because it turns my gameplay into crap. If you sucked at VC or maybe werent that good at it maybe you dont notice. But I am very very good at VC and a pretty accurate shooter too - now with the change to the central game engine I couldnt hit a 500 pound thug in the road with any damn vehicle im driving less my stupid gun. It has seriously hindered my ability to play. I will surely have to log countless hours to get used to it. Will be some time before I make progress in this title... I just hate it when game producers change core parts of the game like that. Gameplay itself once introduced should stay virtually unchanged less minor tweaks and additions and only until the game starts to decline seriously in sales should they reinvent the wheel. You know if you are pressing the aiming key and moving the mouse, CJ moves with the camera. I don't think you would have any trouble when you are in a gang war if you use that feature. Plus just turn the mouse upside-down when you drive next time. That way even if you accidently bump it, the camera won't change. - FiJiAn 4 LiFe
Plaka
It is strange at first but quite soon you become accustomed to it and it DOES have advantages as mentioned above. Experiment with different Control Setup's until you get one you are comfortable with

MRTN
WTF? Come on, you should know that hardly any game uses the same buttons/set up as the previous, just because you got much more features. The first hour after I bought and installed the PC game, I was setting up and testing the ideal settings, then started the new game and started exploring. Stop whining and go play pacman, you only need 4 buttons for that. Or will it confuse you as well?
RCagent
Reasons Rockstar did this (In my theory I guess.) 1.) So you can have the lock on health thing. So you can see how much health whoever you're attacking has. 2.) So you can sucessfully lock on to people when fighting instead of trying to fight them without aiming. 3.) To allow you to see the front part of your customized C.J unlike how in Vice city and GTA3 the camera stayed behind the players back. 4.) To successfully to put in the aiming for the Assault Rifles ect. 5.) Allow you to see around you easier.
Nobuyoshi2
just get a ps2 usb adapter and use your mouse for manual aiming but you need to download a program called saac 1.2 first because that prog sets all the playstation 2 style buttons. murph_fan51
I used to find the camera very annoying, and found it hard to control vehicles (particulary push bikes because of sharp quick turning). After a while I got used to it, and now i like it a lot. I tend to use the mouse to look around corners and things like that. Also, for reversing, I can swing the camera around very quick, whereas VC you had to reverse a while before the camera rotated 180.
baptiste
you can just change the settings in option instead of camera put move its just the games default you can change them after

tommy vercetti guy
I agree, the PC SA sucks. They should have kept it like the PC VC and 3, its so much more esaier and makes use of the mouse.
rynoski
I agree, the PC SA sucks. They should have kept it like the PC VC and 3, its so much more esaier and makes use of the mouse. Im getting used to it - but I still find it irritating and highly annoying. It mainly messes me up when im getting attacked from behind or the sides. I move the mouse like I was used to in VC and then try to shoot but alas im not facing the gunman. Im finding I die a lot faster. Im a really twitchy bastard when it comes to first person shooters and well - this camera change stuff kinda messes with my usual play. I play a lot of first person shooters where you cant see around corners you are about to navigate. The driving part i just kinda have to keep my hands still on the mouse but re-aiming on foot is still a pain for me. I lose a lot of hood gang wars because of this thing. While not very realistic the camera is-- I think to myself - Well hell... nothing in GTA is realistic. Falling from a 4 story building and only getting bruised, or jumping out of a car at 200 mph and not limping away from it is not that realistic! So it throws that whole argument. Anyways - as I mentioned from the get go it was just a jump in rant. For those of you who followed up with snide remarks such as "Stop whining and go play pac-man.. or will that confuse you too..." bullsh*t - you can kiss my ass. Its just a change to the game that has driven me crazy so far. As for the others - I might try that ps2 controller thing anyways - although that doesnt help the camera angle thing! That is just something I have to deal with. Just means instead of doing missions an average of one or 2 times - they get up in the 4's and 5's. Im sure I'll get a little better at it as the game advances. I may not like it but I have to live with it.
mgordon1100
[EDIT] In case you missed my point in this rather lengthly post, below is your solution.....I repeat, it's YOUR SOLUTION. It ANSWERS your PRAYER! [/EDIT] I was annoyed with the keyboard control because it wasn't the easiest thing for me to walk with the left alt button while using the other keys. So, what I did was set the forward button to my middle mouse button. That way I could concentrate my left hand on the alt button instead of the 'w'. Lo and behold, when I'm holding the middle mouse button to move forward, the mouse moves CJ to the left and right now.
