Liberty City Stories based on which version?

OK I want to know what other people think about this. Which Liberty City will it be based on. In the 3 versions there are some differences to things. They are small but recognizable. E.g some trees in the xbox version looked different to the trees in the PS2 version. So which version do you think Liberty City will be based around.

The engine is based on PS2 engine, so it would make most sense for the LC in LCS to be based on PS2 version of GTA3. However, the LC is heavily modified in a lot of places, so it might end up looking different enough to the point where you can't even tell which version it has been derrived from.

Prior to filing a bug against any of my code, please consider this response to common concerns.

OK, thoought it probably would be. And why did people have to rate it bad, its a question for gods sake. notify.gif

Theres differences. Just because I notice more smaller differences doesnt mean this topic deserves to be rated bad.

I have no evidence but I'd have to wager that this is the VC engine with an offcially ported LC. Notice the weapon list, sparing a few missing (detonator nades,M60,chainsaw,ruger) and the addition of one notable weapon (AK47) that appears to be VCs weapon list.

Liberty City Stories is built on a brand new engine just for the PSP, the previous PS2 et-al versions of III, VC and SA were built on the Renderware engine.

It still looks like renderware, I've seen nothing that indicates it isn't the same core tech as all of the console versions.

don't believe companies when they say "new engine" what they mean by new is tweaked the core is the same, perhaps opcodes were removed or added but just look at it, look at the suns flare effect, exactly the same as VCs on PS2.

a piece of art doesn't really say much about the engine...

The flare effect is a particle generated by the engine, it is not a texture or a model, SA uses a completely different particle system. A recent OPS2 magazine had an image that stated LCS will use the SA targeting system. Therefor I will conclude LCS is the VC engine modified with features of the SA system a.k.a a hybrid.

Well if it is Renderware I am pretty sure its highly tweaked to conform to the PSP's limited specs. Just looking at it you can see its not as dark as GTA3 was, its got this brightness and alot of more colour for some reason.

Freak, if you play GTA:LC you notice LC is alot brighter for some reason in the VC engine, which would explain the brightness you noticed.

No but its a different kind of brightness, I am aware of what Liberty City looks like in the Vice City engine as I've played the GTALC mod.

Like the water in the screenshots we've seen are much brighter and the colour levels are upped from GTA3 I guess to compensate for the lower-res textures.
