51L3N7 4554551N
Just a thought, as alot of older members have done alot for the community, maybe don them with the member title 'Legends'. I thought it might be nice for the excellent modders, people that have been here helping the community for a long time, and of course Odie
GT-1
Isn't this exactly what karma stars are for? People who give to the community are rewarded with a karma star in some cases depending on the staff member. If there was a "Legends" group which seems a little unnecessary there would be a very select handful in there. Most of the people who I personally would put in that group already have a user group other than members.
Wheelman
Just a thought, as alot of older members have done alot for the community, maybe don them with the member title 'Legends'. It would be nice, but it'd also just create elitism, and there's quite enough of that here already. As GT-1 says, karma stars are already available to signify those that contribute in one way or the other. In addition I'd like to think that those who help do it out of good will and principle, not to land themselves in a special member group or to enhance their status or ego. Mxyzptlk
I don't want to be in any gangs, but I do want to have shorter search flood control, so I can help more effectively. Bargaust told me once the only way to get it was to join a special group other than members. Karma is fine, but it doesn't help us help the community like a new group would. disco
We should have a group for spammers.. kinda like the 'Fry Cook' group, or something.
Demarest
Isn't this exactly what karma stars are for? No. But I agree it's not necessary. Everybody knows who's who. They don't need a symbol preceeding them. Besides, something like that is something that is perpetually earned so even those not in the know soon realize. And if not, that's because they got what they came for, are gone, and the heirarchy of one social group is of no interest to them. The way it should be. However, Mxy brings up a good point. SOME of us you know would use Search responsibly and since it helps us help others, flood control should be addressed.
SWEETSAPRIK
I don't think a legends member group is needed. In most cases the people that would be placed in it are already in a member group. In some cases they're in an official gang and a mod/ledby/staff member, for all intents and purposes (While technically not.) those members are in more then one group. Karma stars are (in my opinion at least) a separate issue. Me and GT-1 have the same amount, Wheelman has none, but I doubt I could help or contribute as much regardless of how hard I tried. There are also some people that aren't here to socialize, or boost their own ego by sharing their "vast knowledge," but actually help just to help. Some members (using Mxyzptlk as an example) are constantly helping, and I would imagine only use search to better help users, as compared to looking for "that funny quote" or "that flash game" it's pretty rare, but it happens. The fact that they have no desire to be in a gang shouldn't hamper their ability to help. Maybe to stop it from adding to the elitism a member group could be started that looks exactly like the "Members" group. Maybe by using ASCII characters, or even a mask. Some way to let the few people that are here solely to help to help more. (I'm admittedly here to socialize as well as contribute, so said group wouldn't apply to me.) Then only the member and the staff would know that said member had this ability (lack of flood control on searching) so there would be no discernible difference to anyone else. PяopagaиdaIиc. Augh
...I'm not sure I buy that this is about flood control, honestly. You guys should try a slower modem which effectively makes it moot, or maybe a tab with distracting girly pictures to idle away those valuable seconds. Seriously, I never had any problems with flood control. Do you really need to search that much? Can't you like, take notes? Multitasking > These problems. Innit? Demarest
You guys should try a slower modem which effectively makes it moot, or maybe a tab with distracting girly pictures to idle away those valuable seconds. Seriously, I never had any problems with flood control. Do you really need to search that much? Can't you like, take notes? I'm so glad you've got all of our lives figured out for us. So what you're saying is because YOU don't do something, the fact that somebody else does somehow denotes that it is a personal problem? So I'm guessing you use a Pentium II because you have a tab with distracting girly pictures to idle away those valuable seconds? No? Oh, so you DO understand that whether it's necessary or not, people don't like to be kept waiting. Well for as long as we all think like that, you can't really use it to cast a select group under a negative light, eh? A forum is for the spread of information. What sets it apart from other forms of support is that when a question is answered, it doesn't need to be asked again because the answer is there. But what if that answer taken away by something such as a pruning or restricted search times? Kind of defeats the purpose. Anyways, what if the search was prioritized? You know, like set some forums aside as informational forums. In those forums, flood control doesn't apply because we assume that the user is just being a responsible forumer by searching first instead of blindly adding to the database? Though I've never had the problem myself, one good example would be somebody that can't even get their game running. The Troubleshooting forum should have no restriction because a person interested in getting info there might benefit from being able to search 3 or 4 times. Vin.
What a very strange idea. I don't like it, but It's very strange, I'll give you that. And yeah, what Dem said <
Augh
Uh huh. And you know that I use these forums in an informational manner, enough to become imo a marginally competant polypusher largely due to my time here and very few other places, until relatively recently when I decided to branch into some other areas of modeling which aren't covered by GTA subjects. I have I think seen a search flood type block once, literally, in over a year. That's about all it comes down to, and about all the post outlined. You're getting a long way from the original issue already, I don't see what that has to do with "painting a group in a negative light", you're reaching Dem. I said I didn't think this was actually about flood control, because I don't really think it was at the point I posted, now that you ARE on the subject, see above. Never was a problem for me, sorry if that's a problem. Are you taking into account, given that persons generally speak from a personal experience basis (since we are not the Borg), you might make an unusually large number of searches yourself? You're speaking of handfuls of seconds or a minute at most. Sure, I think it would be a great idea to prioritise the pure information forums and cut down the apparently crippling search limit, but I honestly didn't think search limit was actually a painful issue for most, and I still don't. We agree to disagree. And no, I don't have a Pentium 2, though I'm unsure what that would have to do with the price of fish. Wtf is wrong with girly pictures btw? You offend my lecherous ways with your clean cut lack of smut T_T We agree to disagree, if you can agree on that even? This thing should get back on topic really
Demarest
If you'll read the topic you're so desperately trying to make like you care for, you'll see that staff has already denied the idea. The subject shifted to a RELATED topic before either of us posted. I agree to disagree just fine. What I don't agree with is suggesting that because one person experiences something one way, that one way is what's true and therefore others are just griping about measely seconds. Something you've already shown you grasp, but twice now have utilized yourself, even tacking on a connotation of being painful when in fact it was just a casual observation. lol @ clean cut lack of smut
51L3N7 4554551N
So, is it a good idea you think? I agree with what GT-1 said about karma, I just thought that veterans on the forums should have this not only for them, but for other people to see. I think evading the flood control for some would be good as I've seen Mxy waiting in topics for the flood control and someone posts an idea first, it can get frustrating especially when the guy above you is wrong

Demarest
If you don't frequent where a member frequents, you have no basis to mark them as a spammer. Having said that, I can affirm that Silent Assassin is not a spammer.

spoof
OMG anuj has an enlarged purple left foot ! teh freak!!! Perhaps it is a temporary condition that only occurs when he reads statements such as: I can affirm that Silent Assassin is not a spammer Must be psychosomatic The problem with a legend group rests in who gets to decide who is a legend. Is a modder who has greatly contributed to the scene, but who has only been around a few months equal / more than equal / less than equal to say a moderator who has been around for several years? What are the criteria? Length of stay, post-count, reputation, number of friends, number of PM's, technical contribution, social contribution, karma stars, verbal warnings, or perhaps best haircut? Anyone who has been around the forums for a while has a fair idea who the most respected members of the forums are, but even if we asked such respected members to compile a list of who they thought were legends, I daresay the individual lists would differ. All that aside, I refer you to the previous comment made by disco
