Well, I saw this a few days ago. Link So what do you guys think about this new iPod? I comes in about 2-4GB (flash memory) and a color screen. Love it or hate it? I personally think its abit overpriced considering that its about $249 US for a 2GB. I could get a simular Sansung color player with abit more for abit less. But as usual, there are going to be loads of yummy accecories made for it so thats a go.

edit - I just saw that the site had removed of the iPod Mini whatsthat.gif So I assume that this is the heir to the iPod Mini right? Still its very overpriced.....

Everything from iPod is over priced.

Though...When I saw the iPod Nano, in black, I wanted it. I don't really need 2 Gigs because I only don't really have much songs on my computer, but still, I would get it.

First iPod I ever liked.

Well, this seems pretty sweet, but pricey...but alas, does not meet my size requirements...and a regular ipod, not an option. I'm still looking at Creative lab's Zen Micro.

Apple can charge these prices because it owns the market. When you go to a store to get an MP3 player do you see something made by Creative? No, you see an iPod. The only stores I've seen that offer a selection are stores specifically for electronics or PC peripherals, etc.

Now, with the iPod Nano, they own an entirety new market. MP3 players I've seen that small have never gone over 256 MB, and those were even bigger than this.

I'd be more worried about losing the damm thing! Anyway Ipods have never interested me so a tiny one certainly ain't on the cards especially at that price.

Not really, in China many color screen MP4 players go for about 512MB to 1 GB (sometimes even 2) but those things cost like $80 each and they work like an angel. I wonder if there are gooing to be any video expected from this like the iRiver H320.

Who the hell needs something this small? I can fit most of my music onto one or two MP3 CDs, and that runs me about $40 (MP3 CDPlayers are quite cheap....).

i hate the ipod with a vengence, but i have to admit, the nano is a very nice idea.

though i'm sure Creative and the other companies will have their own soon.

I got to see one in person. I'd be afraid of the thing snapping in two - it's extremely skinny. Very nice though, if you use the armband.

Samsung has already a very simular player but with alot more features. The main reason I hate the iPod is because everyone wants it because it is "the" thing to get while they only put like 10 songs in it..... sarcasm.gif

Or maybe they are practical, convenient and easy to use. But i do agree, some people get them and put about 100 songs on them confused.gif

As for the ipod nano, nice idea to keep them in the spotlight but i would feel safer with something with a bit of bulk to it

Suprisingly, I am more or less as satisfied with my 512MB iPod Shuffle as I was with my 30GB 3rd Gen iPod. The reason? Rather than attempt to find the exact song I want to play from a list of 6,000 songs, I autofill with my highest rated songs and hear what I like best. Less distracting to not need to look at a screen while changing songs while jogging too.

If you don't like iPods, that's fine. No one says you have to buy one. Just don't whine and criticize them. Obviously Apple has been doing something right (by either making products people want, or by making people want the product - that's debatable) to keep a stranglehold on the mp3 player market.

That thing is pretty cool considering its a flash mp3 player with 2 gigs! If only the company would put in something useful like an FM radio or a voice recorder or maybe even video compatabilities on their players. i-River saw the light when they upgraded their firmware to be video compatable. It just makes everything better.

edit - And what was this about Jobbs saying about a totally new design? The design is a 4th gen iPod thats squished. Not that its a bad design (I love the design infact) but isn't this device overstated? I mean I could accept it being called a good device by owners but having it called a "revoloution" or "best mp3 player on the market". I mean come on, it seems quite over stated consider not much people have this yet.

Weird...wouldnt you think a 4 gig would be...$399? since it is twice as much as a 2 gig, Storage Wise, it only sounds logical but i guess its not economical lol.

Also, it makes me wonder why the headphone port would be placed on the bottom of the player? It would be pretty in convinient for people who put it in their pockets. Also, the old Mini went for $199 for 4 gigs me thinks. Also, why did they copy Creative and use the name "Nano"? They shouldh've just left it as the iPod Mini IMO.

To be honest, I thought that the mini had good dimmensions. It had the basic clickwheel, a nice large cool screen, and a top headphone jack. It would have been cool if Apple added more memory to the mini and gave it a color screen.

Ya I'd almost rather have a updated mini than this nano. It's just too... petite. I'm afriad I'd buy it and chew it after mistaking it for a stick of gum.

Also I've heard that ipod's sound quality sucks. Can anybody shed some light on this?

I have an iPod Photo 40gb and have no problem with the audio quality. It is argued by many that the Creative players have much better audio quality, and better EQ controls. But as a non-audiophile, I have no problem with the quality.

I figured that I'd have to really nit-pick enable to hear a difference.

I just found the dimensions of the nano and cut out some paper to see the size...

god damn it's tiny. But it's almost not too tiny. I read up on it some more and one guy ran his over with a car and it still worked.

I guess the flash memory having no moving parts really increases it's reliability.

I wouldn't belive that. The screen would probraly be broken as well some electronic components would be damaged. Seems it would be unlikely that it would stay intact. Still, Creative's sound quality is good but I think that the iPod's quality is acceptable too.

Well, this seems pretty sweet, but pricey...but alas, does not meet my size requirements...and a regular ipod, not an option. I'm still looking at Creative lab's Zen Micro.

It's great, PM me if you want, as I own one.

@Topis: every time iPod comes up with a new thingamabob, I just wanna kill myself. There was nothing wrong with the iPod mini? Why create a new one?

I can't agree more. Why can't apple just make a Mini with more memory, a color screen, and iPod covers? A friend of mine's actually bought one and he says that the case scratches and gets dirty quite easily. He even told me that when he went to the Apple store to pick his up, the display model looked as rough as hell with thingerprints and small scratches as far as he could see tounge.gif Yes you've done it again Apple.

There are iPod covers, in fact there are iPod skins you can use to cover your iPod it's even possible to get a custom skin.

As for the scratches, don't make it sound like the iPod is the only devices that surfaces from this problem.
