catmandoza
Using Everest, My harddrive is recored to be running at 122 degrees Centigrade. Now I don't know the correct temp for the harddrive but I am thinking that 122 degrees is a wee bit hot. Any idea how to cool the bugger??
Waste
Yea, that is a bit hot. Mine usually run at about 28-35 Degrees Celcius. Best thing to do is open your case and make sure there is nothing obstructing airflow to the hardrives. Once you make sure nothing is blocking the airflow and the temps are still high, your best bet would be to buy a harddrive cooling unit. Something like this will do fine. andibomb
Are you sure you mean Centigrade and not Fahrenheit? Because 122 is over twice the manufacturers maximum recommended operating temperature of between 55-60 C. I don't think that can be right. You can get cheap temperature sensors and units which will tell you a very reliable reading and they may be worth looking into. If you get a HD cooler, let us know if the temp seems to go down to a good enough level or not.
Wolf68k
I have to agree, something isn't right in that reading. 122F = 50C which is normal, but 122C = 251.6F which means that unit would failed because it was on fire.
catmandoza
I'm not kidding, It said 122C. Wether its a faulty reading I know not.
Wheelman
I'm not kidding, It said 122C. Wether its a faulty reading I know not. I think it's safe to say it's a faulty reading. If it was 122°C, you'd have a heat haze bubbling out of all gaps in the case.
Wolf68k
Try this and see what it says; HD Tune If it's still reading as 122C, talk to maker of the drive and let them know BTW, let's assume for a second it really is 50C/122F and 122C/251.6F, that's still high for a HDD right on the razor's edge of being bad enough to start shorting the life of the drive. Hell No..
Thanks for the HD Tune. Ive always wanted to know the temperature. Its running at 35C here. I'm on Twitch! Are you? Come say Hi. https://www.twitch.tv/priceyryan

the_travis_s
I'm sure it's reading it wrong. Like has been said, if it was REALLY running at that temp... well... it wouldn't be running.
Devyl
Interesting, because I get the exact opposite. I ran that and I got 33C current temps and in the healt tab, mine says 166C. Sounds like the temp monitor is screwey. Try this... Open your case after you JUST shut your pc off, and feel your hdd, if it's REALLY 122C, you should smell cooking flesh
Wolf68k
@Devyl You're getting odd readings too? In that case.... @Devyl and catmandoza What is the make and model of the HDD that is reading like this? And don't just say something like "Western Digital 160GB" because there is something more to a model than that. Both Everest and HD Tune should be able to read what the model number is....although since the temp sensor seems to be reading wrong that doesn't mane the model reading is reading any better.
