Roger Crawford
After I click 'New Game', the loading screen comes up and a blue bar at the bottom starts drawing across the bottom of the screen, but at the point where it's at about 95% done, the game freezes. I'm running the game with the 1.1 patch on Win2k Pro. My specs are: Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Intel Pentium 4 CPU 1.70GHz 512MB RAM Memory DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) Video Card is: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 with approx. 256 MB of Memory. Sound Card: Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. The game loads just fine up until that point, then it only hangs, and my hard drive light blinks about once every six seconds or so. If I try CTRL+ALT+DEL-ing and opening Task Manager, it lags HEAVILY, taking atleast five minutes for that process. In Task Manager, it shows Grand Theft Auto 3 is Not Responding. After I click 'End Task', it pauses, closes GTA3, then everything stops lagging. Any help will be appreciated, thanks. Games-master
Try uninstalling the game and reinstalling it
Roger Crawford
I've tried un- and re-installing. Same thing But this time, when I start my new game, the game first comes up with the message 'Converting Textures for Optimum Format for your Video Card', or something very close to that. It also freezes up my game while that's happening. THAT, however, will very, very slowly progress if I leave it for hours on end... I don't understand what is going on. Demarest
Ignore games-master. He likes to post anything whether it has to do with the problem or not. At first I thought maybe your game was modded since you didn't specify. However, a reinstall would fix that by essentially replacing all files with good ones. Although this MIGHT not accomplish anything, reinstall once more and delete My Documents/GTA3 User Files/gta3.set A resinstall leaves this file intact and that file can actually preserve things that would make the game act undesirably. The converting textures message appears any time you do not have a txd.img and txd.dir in your models folder and the game needs one. After a reinstall, this is normal. I wish I had more to offer. What is the condition of your disc? After reinstalling, are you using 1.0 or the patched version? I'd try 1.0 until you discover you have a NEED for the patch. Roger Crawford
I think it's something to do with the scratch I've discovered on my CD-Rom. It's not very large, but that might be what it is. I'm going to go out to Wal-Mart and buy a new game. It's $10, which is cheaper than the hassle. Thanks for your helpfullness, Demarest. It's appreciated.
