Liberty City Stories Exposed!

Theres some new info at this site , it mentions that the quality soundtracks we all love from previous gtas is indeed in GTA:LCS, plus the ability to stream your own tunes directly from a memory stick. Also you start the game as a mob boss, putting a slightly different spin on it compared to previous gta stories where you have to work up to the top. Text from article below:-

"When Grand Theft Auto (GTA) first emerged four years ago, it created a stir like no other, because it was designed so close to reality, yet it allows you to abandon the principles and rules that you learn in your everyday life, and behave as you like it. It's like a fantasy world where you can crash into buildings, beat up strangers, run pass traffic lights when you're not supposed to, basically things that you would never imagine doing in real life.

What made the GTA series most appealing is that instead of playing good and boring heroes, the character you're controlling is far from perfect. Instead he's usually an escaped convict that seeks refuge in the dark corners of the city, doing odd jobs for the local mafia to earn his keep.

This year, Rockstar Games have decided to reward all PlayStation Portable (PSP) owners with the good news that GTA will be arriving on the PSP next month, with its latest game, GTA: Liberty City Stories. Most of the design and gameplay remains the same, however, the only difference between this PSP port and its console counterparts is that instead of playing down and out convicts (Fido/ Claude, Tommy Vercetti, and Carl Johnson) working their way up, you now play the mob boss, Tony Cipriani himself.

After taking out a rival family, Tony has to lay low outside Liberty City. The storyline in Liberty City begins with Don Salvatore Leone asking Toni to come back to Liberty City, after years of laying low. The idea of playing the mob boss right at the beginning of the game certainly injects a tingling sense of excitement and eager anticipation, not to mention that it adds a fresh angle to the game.

Liberty City Stories' map is comparable to the size of Vice City, which is mighty impressive, seeing that it's made for a gadget as compact as the PSP. The creators are careful not to compromise anything in the gameplay as well, and thanks to new techniques like data compression and disk streaming, packing a whole lot of fun in one tiny UMD can be achieved.

So while the game is not entirely the same as the console titles, it won't stray too far from it. Differences in gameplay will barely be noticeable, or so we're told.

And yes, the music that we love so well from the previous GTA games is back as well. The added bonus is that you can even play songs from your memory stick

But to find out the truth of this, wait till next month to grab your own copy of GTA: Liberty City Stories to find out."

Nice find, it's good to read more bits of info when not much is around (dam you R*)

The interesting bit for me is where it says "Liberty City Stories' map is comparable to the size of Vice City" This must mean they have added some new places to Liberty, as I'm sure I read (at the time) that VC was double the size of Liberty?

The first GTA game came out eight years ago, that just goes to show how little some people know about the series. sigh.gif

Yeah Pyrrhus I also noted that lol. You shouldn't rely on editors like that as they are just writing what they read in magazines. Some of them don't realy know much about the game and make comments like the "4 years ago".

The funniest was when I read an article about San Andreas and the editor wrote "you ride around and kill prostitutes and little children" confused.gif

Yes this news is pretty interesting, however when the website is finally updated all will be revealed smile.gif

I like the news about the MP3 players but its the fact that you can listen to the old tunes from GTA3, they were the best of all the series i beleive.

I really am excited about this, thanks for the news smile.gif

They must have ment GTA III, the first 3d game in the series. cause that came out in 2001.

When the first gta game came out, not too many critics gave a rats ass and dismissed as just another crappy game, but as soon as gta III came out, critics were on the floor licking R*'s balls.

I dont think that LCS will have the same music tracks as was in others such as GTAIII and VC ; eg scarface tunes from flashback. I think what is meant is that there actually will be radio stations as opposed to having nothing to listen to in cars except engine noise and ambient noise. a little while ago im sure there was some debate as to whether or not R* would have to save space by not including radio stations at all. this only tells us that radio statios will be in the game and like all of the previos games in the series the will feature music from the time period. Im guessing R* will have looked around for music 1995 - 1998/97.

On another note its great to have confirmed what we suspected and hoped would return, the user mp3 station. Oh well start you ripping and set the bitrate to low, you need to save space lol ( well those with a 32MB card anyway), ive not even got my PSP yet (this weekend payday 2day) and ive already found a little collection from the era.

I wonder if in the game Toni will sing music from the time just as CJ did when he was idle, I can imagine toni singing "i wanna be a hippie and I wanna get stoned" biggrin.gif

Yeah they meant GTA3, because if you would have read further it said, close to reality and GTA1 wasn't close at all...

Anyways, very good news and can't wait...

I never thought of it that way, I knew Toni Cipriani was a mob boss. But I never thought of playing as a mob boss, a MOB BOSS! this game is sure to own.

Yah, I only thaught that we did something really good, so the mafia was interested on us, and then up, up and away!

But this could also give up trouble. There is a reason why you aren't Il Don Corleone in The Godfather. They wanted an action game, not a stratagy one? Where will be all the fun of doing hitman missions? Bah.

Welcome to the kingdom of contradictions. smile.gif Mayber we are just a high rougher or a Capo. That could bring up even more interesting features to the game.

Well Toni is Salvatore's Capo in GTA3 so I'd assume he is doing all the missions to become that in LCS.
