Model Convertion Question

Nekki

Recommended Posts

hi,everyone. I'm new here. This's my first time to ask question.

I just understand a little English so I'll do my best to describe my problem.

I want to convert Tommy's model from gta3.img (GTA VC) into SA gta3.img.

I want to replace fam3.dff and fam3.txd.

Step:

First: I extract player.dff and player.txd from gta3.img (GTA VC).

Second: I use txdworkshop37 to compress the player.txd into SA format.

It seems easy to do that.

Third: I open 3ds max and run the script "GTA_DFF_IO_25Aug05" import

the player.dff and export it.

Just like the picture.

Then I use imgtool again and replace fam3.dff and fam3.txd with the new files.

But it doesn't work.When I enter SA,it crash.

I don't know which step I did wrong or somthing I miss.

Can anyone help me ? Thanks very much. smile.gif

dude he looks wayyyyyy big. And why would he be MMC? That button (left-most selected yellow) is for multi-colering objects, like cars. Eh, I'll let augh get to ya cause I dunno about vice city.

Scale is a perpetual problem in Max apparently due to the sheer size of the GTA environs, I didn't think that workspace to gamespace would be entirely parallel but apparently they are at least SOMEWHAT linear. So basically the average car made off a decent sized blueprint ends up the size of Alaska approx. Tommy is probably a freakin giant in SA, going by the scale of VC and by the scale of that Max grid both. Then again, whose rig is that? Tommy's or Carl's?

Check two topics down for some really cursory hacking out of ideas about correctly importing players, it's early days yet, but some of the best brains I know of in GTA modding are looking into it a little. I was surprised there was an interest, but not in the bad way biggrin.gif

I'd guess at this point your problem is that you're trying to replace the player.dff file that can be found in gta3.img. What this file is, I forget, I didn't get around to that one yet. What it isn't, is the definitive list of data required to generate the player character, CJ is way different to Tommy and gta3 guy in that he is a multipart mesh, and has varying physiques etc. The short version is "CJ is far more of a bitch to replace than previous players so far". I'd guess your problem so far is based on this factor mostly, but there are so many unknown factors right now that its hard to tell what would be the current, overriding problem.

Further news as events warrant catspider.gif

Bwahahaha excellent. I wasn't sure sanity would prevail once R* tacked on an "official" name T_T

When ppl started saying "Claude Speed" I was like oh god, they made up the worst name yet... oh whoa, R* called him that?! T_T

He's called gta3 guy! At least they didn't voice him biggrin.gif

haha yea seriously! I got kicked from #gta for 2 whole days for yelling at jllr, who was pooping on the very notion that that new name was BS! Awesome. I hope your player model can have a voice though confused.gif

Haha to boot, I just noticed english isn't Nekki's strong suit, as he put it.

Nekki; If you can't tell what the hell I was talking about, do just ask. I'll try and put it more simply.

(Interesting fact; "Fido" is a name coined and coined only by a vacant florida keys pillhead smashed on Spank, interesting so many take her as an authority on anything biggrin.gif)

Edit; Jerz, I lived on MSN messenger when I had 1mbit, now I live on there like half the day. I need Trillian or something. Look me up anytime hehehe.

it seems interest. colgate.gif

My idea comes from an interesting Mod.

The mod lets Cloude becomes one of the "Grove Street" .

It replace fam2.dff and fam2.txd in gta.img.

I really like it biggrin.gif .

So I want Tommy to join them together.

It's cool to let CJ, Cloude and Tommy in SA.

I read many topic in this forum and learn a litte.

There are many topic about convert VC car to SA, but few about models.

I really don't know where's the mistake.

Thanks for help again. colgate.gif

I explained badly, that's all. Isn't your fault notify.gif

This is where the problem is most likely; You've looked at tommy in a 3d program and seen him there as one "piece", he is all there together. His head, arms, legs blah blah. CJ is stored differently, he is broken up into different .dff files for torso (including his arms), legs, feet, and head. So to modify Tommy to replace Carl, this and other things would need doing. There's some people finally starting to look at modeling new players, peds and characters, but it may be a little while before we have a full set of tools to do this. Keep checking in and look at the problem best you can on your own as well is best I can advise. We will all work it out eventually wink.gif

There's a topic I started with some technical information in this forum area, but it is a little hard to follow right now biggrin.gif

Hope you manage to work out what's up with it sooner than later rampage_ani.gif
