Cheatah
OK how many of you have seen the Music video for this song by Green Day? I've seen it twice and it still kind of puzzles me. Esepecially the first time. I basically understand what's going on but not exactly so i'm wondering if you can help me make sense of it all. OK so I get that these two people have spent a long time together, made many memories, and have a great LOVE relationship between them. And I guess, in the summer they were in the field there and they both said how they love each other so much and will never leave each other. And the GIRL says something like "I'll never leave you, where ever you go I'll always be with you"... Ok fastforward a bit, i guess... She walks out of the house and just starts a balling her eyes out in disbelief... At first I didn't know what she was so upset about? Because he then got defensive about it saying it was for us and he thought she'd understand... So what did he do? He enlisted in the army, right? So THAT was what she was so upset about? The fact he's going to fight for his country? I guess obviously she's upset because they won't be able to see each other as often and there is always the risk he'll die. Ok, but what they don't really say is how long he'll be there so she just has to be patient, he could come home and the'll live happily ever after. And even in the part where they show him in battle they don't show him die, or even get shot. So anyways that's what I saw it as, wondering if anyone can give their interpretation, or kinda clear things up for me? Please in a civil manner Thank you. Forfit
Yeah thats how i see it, they never really show them reunite or anything at the end do they? if i would have made the music video it would have been more like a guy sleeping.....and then showing a calendar......and then a person waking up the guy at the end of September, that makes more sense. Antinark
I really hate MTV. Yeah Green Day, you're real "deep".
BrassKnuckles
What I bet it means, in the existential sense, is that the emotional orbits of the human conscience sometimes overlap those of the heart. When "September" ends (September being the ninth month and therefore inherently related to Pluto, the ninth planet, named after the god of the underworld in Roman mythology), those orbits will separate and become normal once more. In effect, compassion and passion, being two different competitors in the human mind, have become like the two lovers in the video. I took a few hours analyzing it, don't worry. rar paitn ^^

Dude, it's a music video, not a f*cking movie. They don't need those kind of details.
darthYENIK
Actually movies don't need them either. But they do indeed have them.
Gta Gamer.
Of course no one had ever heard of the song until it was released as a single. Damn MTV. It was on the album for months, and then suddenly everyone loved it and proclaimed it the greatest song ever. Well, maybe just the retards at my school. Even funnier those same retards who thought American Idiot was Green Day's first album.
LordDiablo
The fact that the video shows him signing up for the Army under his own free will is a testament to how stupid Green Day is. If they wanted to pack home their "Jesus Christ, we're politicians and we hate George Bush" avenue they should've had him being drafted.
Dr_Shark
The song is really meant to be memoirs of Billie Joe's childhood. his dad died of throat cancer when he was ten. There's a whole analyzation on this song somewhere on Wikipedia. However, I really don't get why the video was made the way it is. Baiscally it is a couple who gets seperated because the guy goes to war and the girl is waiting for him to come back. I think this is one of Green Day's songs that can be viewed in many different ways. (like Braintstew/Jaded) Green Day pwns. Their new stuff ain't too shabby. Even funnier those same retards who thought American Idiot was Green Day's first album. "OMG! American idiot is their best song!" "You ever hear any of their old stuff?" "What old stuff?" Damn I just wanna stab those kind of people Edited September 12, 2005 by Dr_Shark
IeetGLOO
I don't like Green Day...Billy Joe needs to brush his teeth and take that freakin' eye shadow off...looks like he got punched in the face
Cojawfee
I don't think the video was ever ended. When they released it there was this whole "How should we end it?" thing. But I think that this is one of their worst videos ever. They took a one minute song that was doubled, and then stretched it into seven minutes. When I first watched it, I thought it was a preview to some movie. Then I saw that it was the song. The song is kind of good, but the video ist sehr furchtbar. iamdigitalman
I don't like Green Day...Billy Joe needs to brush his teeth and take that freakin' eye shadow off...looks like he got punched in the face actually, it's because he is trying to fuse together 2 groups of pop culture: rednecks and goths. I really do think he is trying to be a goth. but, according to an old (think woodstock 94) article from advocate.com, Billie Joe is a self-proclamed bisexual. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Anyways, back on topic, here is the info from wikipedia about the video: The music video for "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is a portrait of war. The video is seven minutes long and the song doesn't begin until about 1:43. It is the first single video that features another musician apart from the trio - the backup guitarist Jason White. The music video could be considered a short movie. It begins with the title of the song against the backdrop of a teenage couple (played by Jamie Bell and Evan Rachel Wood) cuddling in a field. The video strays from the original meaning of song and instead focuses on the teenage couple as the boyfriend promises never to leave his girlfriend. In the third minute, the girlfriend confronts him about something he did. Presumably, the boyfriend signed up for the Marines. The video then shows the boyfriend in Iraq being ambushed by insurgents. Meanwhile, the girlfriend is shown waiting for the boyfriend to come home. The video is open-ended, leaving the viewer to guess the fate of the Marine. so, essentially, they have created a hominym (something with a double meaning.) of a song. the audio version talks about pain and Billie Joe losing his dad, but the video version talks about 9/11 and the war in iraq. IMHO, in the video, I beleve the father figure represents an honest, peaceful America, and how we lost it the day we started a war. I know, that's lame. and yes, Green Day can be confusing, but they are also groundbreaking. But they arnt the only band I listen to. JJHW
The fact he's going to fight for his country? Sorry, but hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
