[REL|CONV] 1998 Mercedes S600

91RS

Recommended Posts

Here it is! One of my favorite cars ever from Vice City, and I was glad Krazymond let me do it. This isn't the exact model as Vice City (that one was converted from the original model by Modmacker), so this one is a little different. It is an awesome quality model, it has 115k polygons but it shouldn't cause anyone any lag as it runs fine on my 32mb video card. I'd also like to thank pfc-lee and JKM for helping me to learn a few things that made this model perfect.

UPDATES in version 1.2: SA license plate, wider wheels/tires, bumpers bounce from the side (like the SA cars), and the LCDs are just black now instead of a misplaced texture.

UPDATED 1-30-06 - 1.3 - new handling, SA front lights, new reflection map.

?? *confused* The car does have the SA style taillights, I didn't put SA style headlights because they didn't look good.

A San Andreas License plate system would be nice. Other than that, nice work on the conversion. One of my favourite Mercedes-Benz of all time.

Nice job 91RS! cool.gif Love the old-school Mercedes S-class, fits the game setting perfectly.

With the license plate, import from a stock SA car, delete everything except the license plate. Save it as a seperate file, open the Benz file and merge (Under file) with the license plate file. Move, rotate the plate until it looks right and don't forget the heirarchy.

For the SA lights.. I think the best thing to do would be to take the headlight elements (polys), make a copy of them and move it slightly off the headlights. Make this copy the actual SA headlights, map to the vehiclelights texture file, unwrap UVW, edit and move to the biggest lights in the file, stretch until it fits. Finally, make it transparent so it wouldn't ruin the look of the Benz headlights.

Sweet sweet car, love it in game, only problems I have are that the breaklights don't show up when I break, and the when you turn the wheel a gray thing sticks out of the wheels, which makes it look ugly when it's turning, but I think it's a sweet car either way... cookie.gifcookie.gif

Those grey things would be the brake calipers, as for the no brakelights I am not sure as they work for me.

@91 - Yeah I was playing around with the model and did notice the back lights worked correctly so yeah my bad. The front lights however can look a bit odd with just one round blob of light so I wouldn't mind that.

For the SA license plate, I don't think you should as the SA license plates are extremly pixelated and detract from the higher deailed nature of the model.

I think there is a mod for a less pixalated one heres a pic but I have no clue were to get it. If you happen to speak russian maybe you can ask gta-customs.

btw 91RS maybe you should make the Merecedes logo on the steering wheel a little less shiny just constructive critsism colgate.gif

So I can just make the alpha 0 and they will still show up when the lights turn on?

I never tried 0, for mine I set the alpha halfway like 150. You can see it semi-transparent in daytime if you look hard enough. So I guess it wouldn't show up at all in daytime if set to 0. When it's night it should show up completely.

I really think that it should have san Andreas plates because it really blends in with the other cars that have the same. If not, then use the above method. Just get rid of the current unrealistic California plates, move the brake discs back abit, and fix the tv problem.

SPC part of GTA russia i think, released the license plates as a bonus with their Dodge Ram 1550 truck download.

They're simple to create from scratch and install, you simply install the 3 plates (one for each city) and a copy of the entire character list in the vehicle.txd.

I agree the originals are pixelated and are crap !!

Two things i would like to see for this car are:

1) Upgrades - spoilers etc

2) Wheel size reset, currently in the vehicles.ide file a 0 is required for the wheels on this vehicle, it would be more desirable if the wheels were reset in 3d Studio Max so that the aforementioned value could be the default; -1. This would ensure that when the wheels are swapped at transfender they dont look too thin like bicycle tires. However on this car its pretty hard to tell since the wheels have good positioning - you can only see the thinness of the wheels when you turn
