The-King
My neighbor just bought a hp pavillion mx50 and we are trying to figure out how to register her. It is a used computer.~TGK |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|
Svip
Register? Why do you need to register? Have they installed GPS in every computer now? What do you mean? Please explain, cause I have never known any of this "registerating".

magical_trevor
If it's registering the PC with the manufacturer, then it's probably already been done by the previous owner, and you should contact them and get them to write a letter informing the company of the change of ownership.. If you mean registering a copy of windows, as far as I can remember, it's optional, but it prompts you to do it during the install. I've not registered any of my PCs, and everything is fine, so I wouldn't worry, unless it'll affect a warranty or something. edit- if you mean activating windows, there's a phone number somewhere on the box that you can phone to activate it, although I don't know if it works like that in the USA, and I've only seen that happen with xp home, when I installed xp pro all it wanted was a CD key. Wolf68k
When I install Windows on any of my machines, going all the way back to Win95, when it asked for my name and address and all of that crap I either left it blank or just entered in bullsh*t. You're on a used machine, so has it's already been said, it's already reg'ed by someone else. There is no need for HP, or even M$, to have you personal info so that you can get updates for anything. If you bought this new and HP wanted you personal info so you can get a rebate, then fill out that form with your real personal info but even the system personal info requested wouldn't matter.
