PS3 to support Keyboard and mouse.

SONY OFFICIALLY revealed many details about upcoming Playstation 3 hardware. At the game developers conference, held at the Cafe Royal, where George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde used to hobknob, the company decided to provide developers with some more information about the machinery.

 

We learned that despite having up to seven Bluetooth 2.0 compliant controllers, and six USB slots, and you will also be able to plug in a keyboard and a mouse. The company representative added that you will be able to play games such as Unreal Tournament 2007 with the keyboard and the mouse. This can mean the end of the auto aiming that you now have on Playstation 2, but I guess that developers will need to make the game fit the controller and keyboard and mouse.

 

Otherwise, if your game is so important, you might take a stand and make people buy a mouse and keyboard for your Playstation 3. At the same time you will be able to use your Playstation portable as a remote device for Playstation 3, but right now won't be able to use it as a controller for games. But you will be able to do some things such as play a video or a song.

 

With a keyboard and a mouse, the Playstation 3 might be a real threat to the PC. µ

sh*t, if people actually buy into the keyboard and mouse on PS3, we could be saying goodbye to the PC market as we know it. I'd stick with a PC, with things like modabilty and other pros. Besides, it's harder to use a keyboard and mouse on TV for me than it is with a computer screen. But then again, you could say that consoles haven't died because of being able to use controllers on the PC, right?

This is why we use trackball mouses/mice. I've always wanted to use a keybaord and mouse on the PS2.. Only for FPS, though, like Quake etc. Whenever my friends and I would play I'd always end up getting my ass kicked because I'm used to having a mouse instead of some overly-sensitive analog stick.

Yeah, trackball mice are still impossible to use on a bed, trust me, I've tried it. I was talking more along the lines of games forcing you to use them for games, not as an option, meh. I would take a controller over a mouse for a FPS anyday though, I find it a lot easier myself.

Nah, I don't see how this can be a threat for PC's.

 

PC's are always more advanced and versatile than consoles. Even if the PS3 is a "beast" (a really expensive one) at launch date, it will soon be overpowered by computers.

I think it sounds good on paper, but just like the nintendo DS's touch screen, it may not be as good as expected.

 

And please, PS3 or any other game console will never be able to take over PCs! Now the PS3 & xbox 360 are really good game consoles but they pale in comparison to future PCs.
