Hey, I wan't to get a 6600GT for computer, problem is I don't know if I should get it.

I also need a little help selecting one.

Here are my Specs:

Mobo:FIC AM35

CPU:AMD Athlon XP 2400+

RAM:512

HDD:80GB

The link that I posted should it explain it all.

Im right now looking at newegg's 6600GTs. I looking for a one that can run BF2...

but no sh*t, I don't expect it to run on high.

Forget about the budget. Need something around $100 - $150

Thanks, I need to seriously move out of my ripped off GeForce MX 420.

EDIT: Check this video card out here

Looking at the RAM on newegg....

How do I know which RAM bar will work with my MoBo?

I think I only have 1 slot available for RAM..so it should be 512MB.

Any recommendations for RAM?(Not expensive please.)

BTW How do you know how much watts you have?

Edit 2: Look here.

Is that good?

You can get this - should be 100% compatible

CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 $45, free shipping

And it is ddr400 to boot in case you want to upgrade your cpu/board in the future you can reuse it

Newegg has that TT420W I got is cheap quality stuff

Thermaltake Silent PurePower TT-420AD(DUAL FAN) ATX 420W $36, free shipping (on sale this weekend only)

I am running it on my game rig at the moment, you may have to remove your current ps to see the label for the amps / watts...

D'OH!

Yeah you run any speed of RAM from PC2100/DDR266 up to PC3200/DDR400

But the board only supports speeds of PC2100/DDR266, so the faster RAM will work but it'll just down-clock itself.

Lol, Alright thanks. BTW hasnt anyone find out how can I tell how much watts I have? Because it doesnt say in the back. Also the PSU won't fit at all.

Should I post some pictures?

you will probably have to take out the 4 screws that mount the power supply to the chassis, and find the label.

So you have a micro ATX p/s, similiar to this one?

ATHENA POWER AP-MP4ATX45 450W $78

I actually have used that one to upgrade some older emachines that were stuck w/ a 145W, perhaps it will work for you as well.

Sh*t I should make a donation thingy.

You and me both, brother.

I've got a PayPal account for something else, but sometimes I doubt I could get anything from anyone.

300watts as GTA3Freak-2001 might make it by the skin of it's teeth. Personally I would drop a big fat 400-450watt PSU in there...better to have lots more wattage than you need than to have just enough...more so since the wattage rating on most PSUs don't really live up to what they are rated for.

Offtopic question

There is a card with a cable coming off of it, it's the second card up from the bottom.

I'm just wondering what that card is what the cable is for?

I've got a 6600GT, but you better be prepared for overheating. I don't know about anyone else, but within the first 10 minutes of starting my computer and playing, my computer case got too hot to touch. So, now I gave it back for them to put in a new fan or heatsink or whatever is needed. I got 450 watts + 3.2ghz + 1gb ram, so I was pretty much sure that it was going to overheat cryani.gif

edit: during the time I played it, the 6600GT is very nice for the price, very. Works very good.

6600GT's easily run about 50 C idling, and I've seen mine hit 80 C in HL2, and be in the 70s throughout SA or Doom 3. If you go above the 80s, then be worried.

Thats what I question my self when I first opened the compter, but on the second opening which I took photos, found out that it was for Firewire ports....So the card is for firewire and the cable is for Firewire and USB ports.

Firewire=3 USB 2.0=5

USB always win.

That wasnt really off topic but, man I don't think I'll be able to upgrade the PSU, its like stuck there, like I said I tried taking it out but it wouldnt, and the over heating. The case is really tight and might mess up the card because of the heat, since I'll be playing BF2.Didnt you saw the pictures everybody? Its a very small place to put the card and it will be right by the SC.The last time I check the TEMPS was 54c CPU and Case 44c. I don't know if thats bad but it said over a 90-100 degrees F. The memory, I could just slap it in and I see load diffrience and ect, but it isnt going to help much. I just might as well start a new system. Get a good case, not expensive, get a good mobo with PCI-E(Future Proof, like in that topic while back). and just get a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ and start from there. Sure, its going to take me a while to complete it, but its better than upgrading this junk. As Wolf said, AMD doesnt matter in GHz(correct?). A 1.8 GHz can keep up with an Intel 3.0 GHz. I'll buy all my parts from newegg if possible.

Wow, I learned alot from this forum lately. Thanks smile.gif

I can vouch for that, mine idles at around 54-57 degrees and goes up to about 65-70 under load in games like GTASA, HL2, Far Cry etc.

Anyway stevo I think you made some wise words there, you are probably better off building a new rig because your right that case looks extremly tight and you would not want a 6600GT having its fan forced against another card. What are the cards under your AGP slot btw anyway?

Well an AMD FX 3000 which runs at 1.8GHz can keep up with an Intel 3GHz, that doesn't mean that an AMD XP that runs at 1.8GHz (I forget which of the XP series that is, 2000+ or 2100+ I believe) can however the AMD XP 3000+ which runs at 2.1GH can.

It would be the 2100+ since my 2000+ runs at 1.6-7Ghz basically 1.7 and I can tell you ain't comparable to anything anywhere near 3.0Ghz lol

my Athlon 64 3000+ runs at about 2.7ghz, and it runs much better than a 3ghz p4 smile.gif

but yeah, go with the athlon 64 3000+, but make sure its a venice core. you should be able to push it pretty far even with stock cooling. unless you are one of those people all pissy about warranties tounge.gif

Alright, Venice Core, I'll keep that in mind.

Alright under my AGP Card is:

Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit

2 Firewire ports

56k Modem

Nothing Special.

Well yeah, the venice core, is it on newegg? How much it cost? Dont call me lazy, but I gotta catch a bus.
