LLD
I don't think it will translate with the same magic the book had, still will be worth a checking out.
Captain Keyes
We had to read this way back in the 6th or 7th grade. They should film most of it in black and white, like how the people of the community could see.

I don't remember the book too well, seeing as how it was over 7 years ago, but wasn't the hook the fact that only this kid/his mentor were learned to see colors? I don't see that transitioning too well to film...

I don't see that transitioning too well to film... It takes place in a world devoid of emotions, colours, feelings and coventional relationships. It's assumed that a huge war occured and whoever in power decided to break down life into such a simple an informal social construct that war could never occur again. But as sort of a historian, one person is the holder of the whole history of the human race, and human emotions. This person is called the giver. When he begins to die, they seleved "the receiver" to receive all his memories and protect them for the next generation. There were two sequels to the novel which i havn't read. Apparently they were terrible. Anyways, for a kids novel... it's f*cking brilliant.

I don't really see this book transferring well to film though. I just don't see them being able to convey just how foriegn the senses were to Jonah (I think that was the kid's name) when he first expierienced them. Dr_Shark
** WARNING!! SPOILERS!! ** I really wonder how they're gonna make the end. The ending concluded in a way where Jonas's fate wasn't determined. He could have died BUT.... There were two sequels to the novel which i havn't read. Apparently they were terrible. In The third book Messenger, Jonas is clearly the leader (subtley), which means he didn't die in the end of the first one. I also hope that they'll use really good music.
