I recently downloaded MSN Messenger 6.1 (Windows X Version), which is a modified version of MSN Messenger. Once I installed it, I attempted to sign in and got the "You must install a newer version" error. Is there any way around this, so I can use it without installing a newer version?

You can't use 6.1 because a security vulnerability was found in all 6.x versions a while ago, and everyone was forced to upgrade to the latest build of 6.2. That's the only one you can use, any other clients are rejected.

You could get around it, in theory, by getting that client to send a version number of an accepted client to the login server. You might as well just use 6.2 like seg said and save your time, but.
