Knife
I just installed a new motherboard, and graphics card. But now when I start my pc I get a blue screen telling me that windows will not start because there is a problem. It mentions the hard drive and says if a new one has been install it should be uninstalled but it is the same hard drive. Thanks
segosa
That's because the chipset drivers installed on your hard drive's XP installation are for your old motherboard, not your new one. My guess is the STOP error when you boot is 0x0000007B. Here is Microsoft's KB on it: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...b;en-us;Q316401 In short, it tells you to do a repair of Windows, and if that doesn't work, to do a reinstall. I had this problem a while ago and a repair worked, I didn't lose any settings or anything. The only thing I lost was my theme. Details on how to repair XP can be found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315341/#XS...122120121120120

Knife
Ok, new problem. Windows will not detect my second hard drive. Windows says it's installed but it is not avalible in my computer and it doesn't have a drive letter aasgned to it.
segosa
Well, I don't know much about that. All I can suggest is check in the BIOS if it's detected. Other than that, I dunno. Wait until someone more knowledgeable about hardware comes along.
anus
Hard drive not getting detected? I've had this problem before after installing a fresh copy of XP. I just removed BIOS battery (not sure what it's called ) and put it back and turned it on and I configured all of the setting through setup and I made the BIOS autodetect my HD and it detected it. Then Windows worked just fine.
Knife
Hmm, that didn't seem to help. It's worse now, I have installed the sound drivers but there is no sound. This just isn't my day
Bond996
In a run prompt, enter 'diskmgmt.msc /a' and make sure the drive is formatted, as well trying to assign a drive letter to it in there. What sound card do you have, and where did you get the drivers?

He didn't mean you should format it. Just check it IS formatted. It's a different thing.
Knife
Ok, I now have my drive back. But I have my next problem, yayee. Now I am having problems with the graphics card and the drivers. It is an nvidia fx 5500 and I downloaded the latest drivers of the site but it says that there are no drivers compatable with my hardware. As for the sound I still don't have any. The sound is on board with an asus motherboard (A7V8X-X). At least I have all my files

Also, did you get your sound drivers from the Asus website?
