Quadropheniac90
I can't open port 80 with my Eminent Router, I tried 'Virtual Server', 'Special Applications', and 'Adress Mapping' but only 'Virtual Server' is relevant I think. None of them works. Is there another way to open ports? Thanks in advance! Edited September 3, 2005 by teun.steenbekkers
Waste
Look for reset button on it. When you find the reset button, unplug it, press the reset button for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
Quadropheniac90
I edited my first post, because now I can go on the internet . But I cannot host my own webserver and I think that's because my router won't open port 80. Does anyone have a solution?
Wolf68k
Read this, just pick the type of port you want to open http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...EM4100index.htm This is the one for HTTP commonly used by port80 http://www.portforward.com/english/routers...EM4100/HTTP.htm
Quadropheniac90
Thanks, I'll try it! EDIT: It is not my type of router, I have an 4012, but I got my IP static, still not working though. maelstrom
You can *temporarily* try the DMZ option (if it exists, most routers have that feature to put whatever internal ip address directly accessable to internet) to see if it is the router... if it works, your port fwd it not working - if not, then ISP is blocking home server ports. The model maybe different but the configuration within the router should be more or less the same
TwoZero
Do note that if you have ADSL, you can NOT visit your own outside static ip, so even if you open the port, you can't reach your webserver. Ask someone else to try it, someone in a different house with a different internet connection.
Bond996
Your ISP might block Port 80. A lot of them do. Change it port 8080 and see if it works.
Quadropheniac90
How do I change it to 8080? And yes, I asked people to do it, everytime it does not work. And the configuration is not the same, I tested it. I do have a static IP now, which I think is needed.

You can either use Port Triggering on your router, which it sounds like may be a little too hard for you, or change the configuration for your web server, since that's what it sounds like your running. What web server do you have?
Quadropheniac90
I dunno, I'm a noob at this, I have Apache here or something, installed it all with EasyPHP, have PHPMyAdmin, MySQL and I have a PHPBB2.0 forum installed in a different directory. But to be the only member of my forum creates a certain feeling, best to describe as lonelyness. Nah, seriously, I don't know all this stuff. I did see port triggering though, don't really know how to use that. Thanks for all the replies, I hope you can help me out with this.

Go to 'C:\Program Files\EasyPHP1-x\apache\conf\httpd.conf' and change all instances of 80 to 8080, then follow wolfs instructions for 8080 and see if it works. Quadropheniac90
I changed it, but what should I do now, I can't access my site from here. Maybe you can go to http://84.27.173.95:8080 Or whatever the right URL is, the IP is right, but does the port number belong after that? EDIT: There's another httpd.conf file in the folder above the 'Apache' folder. Should I change all those 80's to 8080 too? Honestly, what purpose do your require a personal web server off a DSL line for? Get free hosting from like hostrocket.
Wolf68k
I think Eminent is trying to piss me off... and they succeeded too Their web site is in perfect English, no problems reading or understanding it and it's not some jacked up web translation crap that I'll see from time to time. But when you download their PDF manuals they are in freakin' German!! Well there was one that is in English, partly, but they don't tell you that and you don't figure it out until AFTER you've download the first 2....freak'in a-holes At any rate, there is an area for Port Forwarding within that router. The only other think I can suggest is trying to upgrade the firmware http://www.eminent-online.com/ select your router model number from the drop menu But what seems to be the custom for these people, they don't tell you d**k about how to upgrade the firmware on the web site, but it is in the manual, and they also don't tell you what the firmware upgrades fix/improve/change/whatever. Quadropheniac90
I want a free host without advertising, I use Lycos now, but there's one ad there... No popup because of my killer, but off course this sucks. If I can host it from my own computer, I can make a 404 which appears when I'm not online. Check if your ISP has free hosting. Also, theres sites like hostrocket that give out free hosting, or 250free. Take a look in WD&P, theres tons of free hosts.
