anuj
This is a WIP RULES thread, but here is the most important bit. More will be added when me or pap feels the need/has time. The Graphics forum has always had it's problems with elitist assholes. These are people who think they're the bees-freakin-knees at graphics, and love to shove it in peoples faces whenever they can. But, more than that, they love to verbally offend the people who try their hand at making images. THIS WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED! In future if I (or any of my stick weilding buddys) see ANYONE flame someone for the lack of skill in the graphics department, you'll get a one month temp ban. Nobody is exempt from this. If you don't believe me, just try me. But Az, what exactly are you talking about? Here's some examples from some recent threads: f*ck off dickbag. Everything about the above post is wrong. ...the worst n00b pixel art I've ever seen, even peirce puts you to shame, dumb bitch. Saying a piece is terrible to your eyes is fine. Calling someone a 'dumb bitch' cause you don't like their work is NOT fine. *vomits* that's all. That is not criticism, that's offensive spam. Basically, I want the Graphics forum to turn from the Elite Hell it is today into a pleasant and helpful place to be. If someone posts something horrible, or newbish, by all means tell them what you think of the piece, but do it in a way that is innoffensive. If you don't agree with this rule, I'll give you a month to think about it. To all the people who are helpful and give worthy criticism, thank you very much for putting Quality time into this sub-forum. We the staff appreciate your efforts. Sadly, one or two wankers have damn near ruined the place.
ThaddeusMcKlown
You need to change the name from 'Az' to 'anuj' in the 12th line. Other than that, looks good man. -TMcK- Against the grain, against the odds, against the world Forever the underdogs We are the bastard sonsWe are the ones that refuse to grow coldWe are the thorn in your sideWe are the thieves in the nightAnd we're coming to take what's ours
Clown.
agreed. some people are complete dicks, i've seen newbies ripped to shreds for not being quite up to scratch. some people think that you must be dumb, gay, f*cked up etc, just because you can't make graphics as good as them. i think that a one month ban is being nice. Pierce Brosnan
If people are going to make posts like "that sucks" or something along those lines, you should say why you dislike it and don't be harsh like that, give reasons why you dislike it. ...the worst n00b pixel art I've ever seen, even peirce puts you to shame, dumb bitch. Iminicus
I stumbled across this thread and I think it needs to be applied across all the boards and sub-boards. This constant bickering between members sucks and frankly, I'd rather not post in case I get trashed. I think this should be moved and put in Announcements with the addition of applying these same rules to everyone. Just my opinion, but it could clean up these forums. He said that? Glad he's gone, but i'm tired of all the jokes based on me. Yeah, I like being civil and all that, but there's one mantra that has stuck with me for a LONG time: sh*t will only result in the production of MORE sh*t. Sometimes, this continuous circle-jerk we call a graphics forum results in people thinking they are a lot more skilled than they actually are. This wouldn't be too bad if they didn't become cocky. Cockyness without skill = sh*t. I guarantee this is one of the MOST civil graphics discussion forums with more than 50,000 posts. Look at somethingleet, theroot42, or anything and you'll see that the first thing real artists do is either berate or critique. Usually berate. Because artists are insecure people. When they see people who talk too big for their level of skill, a lightbulb IMMEDIATELY goes on that says 'knock that f*cker out'. When they see newbies, that same light goes on. Then, after that newbie has been through the grinding stone and finally posts some great work, they can look back and think "Hey, these guys were assholes, but they helped." Chibi doesn't help, though. He's just an asshole.
papanesta
I think, unless the thing that is produced is absolutely amazing, everyone should expect a certain level of crit, not a tirade of compliments. Any artist should want crit, as it serves to make them better. Newbies who post their topics expecting to get praised, even here, should get some level of "I really don't like that, do this..." from everyone. Even people that know bollocks all about graphics. Though, I suppose you have to be around graphics for awhile to know what goes into making them, but that's a given. A simple, "Yeah, that's great." should, and from now on, will probably be considered spam. It helps no-one. Anyway, I'm rambling.
king surfer
Criticsm is the only way to realise your errors and improve next time. All it really is, is the difference between helpful criticsm and plain putting people down.
crazyninjadude
as long as you dont ban people with positive crticism... ie... 'humm... that could be better... if you did -this-' then thats cool...

Kaj.
How about we add a rule that prohibits links to deviantART? That's right, I'm looking at you Rcc. All work must be posted DIRECTLY on the forums, and then the person might be allowed to post a link to their dA page.
Digïtál £vîl
I find this funny coming in part from Anuj and your 2G bastard friends. No offense man but you used to be one of those elitist motherf*ckers. Hell, I even was kind of that way at one point. I started on the forums here in the graphics area. I posted from my first noob signature onto my better work and artistic pieces. I dealt with the insults and the constructive critisism when it came and it made me a better artist. When I was good enough I even joined 2G and talked regularly with several members of it. Everyone's berating and insulting made me the member that I am today. I am cocky and stuck up and I know it. But I control myself and try to limit my insulting to just fun in general chat. Because one thing I learned from this was the fact that nothing on the internet should really be taken seriously.. especially forum related. I don't visit this part of the forum anymore very much simply because it got too bad in here. Especially a little after Anuj first became a led-by. I hate to say it openly to you, but you were a dick. But you know what, I still miss the good days, when the Graphics section was the place to be. Where elitist assholes had fun ranting on each other, while at the same time making us stronger members and eventually better graphical artists. People will always insult work that you do. It is what critisism is. Sometimes it is constructive, other times it is simply destructive and mean... but it is part of life. I still won't post here, I'm beyond my online graphical work for the most part... I visit here occassionally but the nostalgic feeling of the old style Graphics Forum is gone... and from seeing the people who replaced it, it isn't neccessarily a bad thing. Simply because it would have never worked out that way... Goodluck to all the people trying their hand at art, just remember one thing: This forum does not have to be taken seriously. It really makes things easier on you if you understand that.

VideoPoker
Heh, yeah. I don't spend as much time on the computer as I used to, haven't really done any pixel art in a few months either. Although, I've been toying with the idea of drawing a crayon manufacturing line... Maybe on one of those extra-special boring days.
