Custom Cars Don't Work

Hey guys.

Okay, I'm having trouble getting these custom cars to work. All the car installs are manual ones. I simply renamed the original .txd and .dff files so .txdbak like most readmes say and then add the new, custom .dff and .txd models. I rebuild the archive, exit out of img editor, and start up SA.

I look for, and finally find one of the cars I replaced (stretch in case you want to know). Problem: its still a limo (its supposed to be a hummer limo). Okay, maybe it was just that one car. Nope, three, four five more cars I replaced are still what they used to be.

WTF?

Okay maybe I have to start a new game (no idea, but i tried it anyway). Immediately once I start, I spawn a stretch to find that its still a sedan and not a hummer.

Sooo... whats wrong? I did everything exactly the way the tutorials say to, but none of the cars are working? Is it how I renamed the original .txd files? Should I delete them instead? Does it matter where I extracted the custom .txd and .dff files? I simply put it in a seperate folder in the root dir (rockstar/sa/mods). Should I stick them in rockstar/sa/models/ or wherever the other .txds are? Is there a patch I need to download (this SA install is a fairly early edition). I sure hope I don't cause this guy needs to go to hell. sign-thompson.gif bad bad bad sign-thompson.gif

Thanks for your help, I look forward to cruising SA in some of the better custom models out there.

Ok, Dont triple post.

I extract the original files, adding bak wont help.

then try spawining one without the 'bak' in them

Yes, I rebuilt the archive, and I renamed the original files TO BACK THEM UP. you know, in case something goes wrong. Pretty much, I did everything according to how you're supposed to/how the readme's say to.
