I assume that you go around the city busting random crimes as Redman because "Dogg Patrol" in True Crime: Streets of LA had you going around the city busting random crimes as Snoop Dogg.

Probably, with the muffled voice of Redman making the same "wisecracks" of which there is about 3, becuase that's all they could afford for sudio time. They probably spent half there funds on the Redman music which is in it, half the soundtrack is Redman.

I bought this game a few days ago. I enjoyed TC:LA a lot (despite certain issues) so I trusted this one. The framerate slowed down a bit when I first started playing, sorta like GTA:SA did at first, and it still slows down sometimes, but it is nothing serious. The interior engine is superior to TC:LA and GTA:SA because the only loading time is when you go IN the building, but there is no load time when going back to the streets.

What really bothers me is that cops always try to attack me when I am taking down violent perps. Sometimes they seem to attack me for walking around. I used to spend hours upon hours in TC:LA shooting at unsuspecting peds and moronic cops who can't figure out how to get behind fences. But in TC:NYC, the cops are as annoying and determined like on GTA.

By the way, where's the cop uniform? The only thing I could find in my locker was the street clothing and a couple of outfits I bought from the store. I had to wear the cop uniform on that street training mission, but is it available?

Just show your badge to the cops (back button on Xbox, probably Select on PS2), and they'll back off. You don't wear the cop uniform... you're a detective. You're supposed to wear streat clothes and blend in, but if you're a bad little cop... your superior will demote you to it.

Thanks I will try that next time. The more I play this game, it seems more like GTA. I even did the mission where you do taxi missions for that bad-hair day Freddy dude, and when Marcus says something about 'at this rate, i will be doing remote-controlled airplane missions' or something to that effect the first thing that popped in my mind was remote controlled airplane missions in GTA. I wonder if there are any in this game.

But this game glitched up when I was doing a "Rock band trashing hotel" mission. I went to open the door to the room they were in, and when the door open, my character simply froze and could do nothing but turn a little and switch weapons. The rocker dudes ran around a little bit and I gave up and reloaded my file. But I haven't had any other major issues since then.

Also, I was thinking about Blu-ray technology and the PS3, and the True Crime series. If they were able to fit this huge city (Manhattan) on the DVD in only a few years (2001-2005?), would it be possible to get the whole city of NY on a Blu-ray or HD-DVD? Or what if they re-did their [email protected] attempt at L.A. and made the whole city with all the streets and put it on Blu-ray in a next-gen game. I look at this series as a playable GTA-alternative/wannabe, unlike other horrid "games" such as Driv3r and Getaway. I mean, this one is at least worth renting (for 99 cents on 99 cent mondays here at a rental place where I live.) But I liked the True Crime series so much that I just went ahead and bought it.

By the way, the personality of Nick Kang > Marcus Reed IMO. Kang said some pretty funny stuff. Marcus is too repetitive and boring.

This game is not worth buying. Plain and simple. I'll go into a little detail.

1. RENT THIS GAME. Do not always take my advice. (lol). I rented it this morning. I love the storytelling and the style of the game, but the brightness in-game (even when my TV's brightness is maxed) isn't good enough at night.

2. The controls suck. They do. At least on teh PS2 version, the controls are clunky, slow to respond, and there's no option to control sensitivity! You know how GTA:SA made vigilante/cop missions fun? This is like slow, painful torture. You either can't make a corner, you hit a tree, or a bus flys out of the middle of f*cking nowhere and takes you out.

3. I love how 3 gangstas with MAC10s can bust up my car within 2 seconds. Please for the next game make it so I can die from AIR.

4. I experienced the weirdest glitch. My unmarked cruiser was involved in a crash, and I was at full health. All of a sudden, Marcus goes flying out the car and his legs are amputated at the knee. Then he gets up, and I run around without lower legs. Great.

Yeh man, I don't think they did this as a reference to GTA to be funny. But hey, maybe that's just me.

Why the f*ck does everybody compare open-city/free exploration games to GTA? That's like saying every other FPS is just like Doom, or some equally respectable FPS game. It doesn't make f*cking sense.

Oh god thank you.

And to be fair, GTA wasn't even the first 3D free-roamer, I remember paying Driver1 on PS1 and thinking it was awesome that you could just cruise around the city.

I really would like to buy this game, I did have fun with TC:LA but it wasn't worth it, and I kind of doubt this one is too. I guess I'll give it a rent, can you beat it under 10 hours?

I certainly agree that not every action-driving game fits into one simple genre. True Crime has it's own aim. The sad part is, that aim is just horribly executed, nothing more, and a whole lot less. It's lust like I said on page 1 of this thread, if these rim jobbers would have just taken the time to refine these games, fix any outstanding glitches, make the character controls feel very solid and responsive with the map, smooth out the car handling, and so on, then this title would be worthy of defining it's own sub-genre.

But as it stands, Luxoflux are just another band of cock goblins out for a fast buck that they can make from riding the coattail of GTA. They don't give a f*ck about taking pride in refining the games or meeting any sort of respectable quality. If they did, no one would be calling them a GTA clone.

Gamespot: 4.3 That says it all.

I have to admit, I was really looking forward to this game. The day it came out, I checked GameSpot to see what the ratings were and as Xcommunicated stated, it got an embarassing 4.3 of all.

I guess I'll just shoot straight to Resident Evil 4 for the Ps2 and Half-Life 2 for XBox,

I rented this tonight. Not liking it. Firstly the driving seems to be worse than LA. Everything else seems the same. Times Square is nice, but I am really regretting even renting it, when I could've rented Bulletproof.

Don't buy. Rent. Then give back.

I'm wondering if some people have either got Beta copies of the game or very dodgy consoles. I got True Crime: New York City this morning after college, and it has just got better and better. There is a day/night cycle, rain, and no matter how busy it has got on-screen (inc. flying litter when I've been racing through the city by car or motorbike), it has never been anything other than smooth.

While it is a dark game, it's nothing a little TV brightness control won't help out, and it's by far the best GTA wannabe on the market. The interiors are way better than San Andreas's and there are loads (over 100) of them, and while the peds' AI isn't as good as in San Andreas, it stands up beside GTA3.

Early days yet, but TC:NYC is a very good free roaming action game in the GTA mould.

That gamespot review is b.s., I read a good bit of it. I mean, TC:NY does have some bugs, but it is not nearly as buggy as TC:LA. But the driving physics are weird as hell, I must admit, especially the motor bike physics. You go five feet into the air when you drive over a little hump at 1mph.

And the number of peds on the screen at once is amazing, especially for the PS2 version. As for their ratings, GTA:SA had a lot more bugs and yet everyone gave it a 9/10 or 8/10 (except Microsoft/Xbox fans). And their are no loading times when driving around outside.

As for complaints about the Gamecube version, who in their right mind would buy that system unless they want to play Nintendo's first party titles or whatever (I got one b/c I like some of the Nintendo characters)?

The gunplay is extremely basic. You can lock on to an enemy and just pull the trigger until the enemy is dead
Wtf? That's the same damn targeting system on GTA pretty much. Except [ blasphemy ] I find the one on TC and other games far more usable than the one on GTA b/c I would like to be able to move while shooting no matter what the weapon is. [ /blasphemy ]

True Crime: New York City should be avoided regardless of whether or not you enjoyed the first True Crime.
Nonsense. Pure nonsense. I enjoy this TC as much as the first one despite a few bugs. The review also talks about excessive "f" word in the dialogue, which is also an issue in the well-respected GTA:SA.

But the review did say some true stuff. I did find it highly annoying that firetrucks are driven by people who are NOT firefighters and taxis are driven by people who are definitely not taxi drivers.

This [ more blasphemy ] series still has potential to beat the hell out of GTA [ /more blasphemy ] if Luxoflux developers would actually do some real work instead of looking at pr0n at work or whatever they do during that time. But it's still fun.

I personally didnt like it. But two things I loved and that GTA should steal are the taxi rides and subway rides. Can go anywhere within a short loading scene. Cool. Also Times Sq looks the sh*t!

Gamespot's review is an utter disgrace. I can only assume they are in Rockstar's pocket such is their level of bias. While Gamespot will happily overlook the pad smashing annoyances of the GTAs, they pick up on every debatable flaw in TC:NYC and magnify it to the maximum.

While this statement is quite simply untrue:

Gamespot:

The graphics look about the same in each of the three console versions of the game. That is, they all look real bad.

I have the Xbox version, and there are times when the game looks absolutely stunning. Like walking or driving down a lamp lit street at night when snow is falling and or the sun is setting. Beautiful.

Interiors are all very well rendered too, with record shops (where you can purchase new tracks), food stores, clothes shops (to buy new outfits), fast food outlets, restaurants, offices, hotels, etc, to wander around. The mission locations are very detailed and enjoyable too.

There are also custom kills (see The Punisher), and a lot of other little details that add up to make a satisfying game such as upgradeable skills.

I for one am enjoying TC:NYC, and would advise anyone thinking of buying it to read the far more balanced IGN review.

I thought this game would be kind of good. But after having read all of the bad reviews in the topic I'm doubting the game or my taste in games. I still want to try this game out, though.

This game is awesome, what is everyone complaining about. You can do such cool things, there are millions of interiors on every street and the street crimes vary alot. Also the game has Marcus Reed who is the most badass character ever.

But I can see why most people don't like it:

- NYC is a very big city ang may get frustrating to drive in (Hint: Take a cab or the subway)

- They don't know all the cool things you can do. ( You have the most awesome fighting moves and it has good action sequences, I like diving with the guns, also you can get so much weapons and interact with a hell of alotta sh*t.)

- They are cold stone gta freaks and think any game that has to do with "crime" is a gta rip-off.

-They say they have glitches, I've never had a glitch yet.

Trust me this game is worth it to me, but I would say tri it before you buy it.

9/10

Marcus Reed is trapped in a closet. Seriously anyone else notice the similarity between him and R. Kelly. Hope Marcus Reed does not pee on people after he f*cks them. tounge.gif Im actually a fan of R. Kelly so im definitely gonna buy this game just cuz he looks like R. Kelly. And you know whats weird, Ima guy and i aint gay.

Are cornrows the only hairstyle available cuz ive seen him bald too. Could someone like get each haircut and post a pic.

In True Crime: New York City, is there a place where you can repair your car?

Yes, JB, there are garages to drive into where your car will be repaired for a fee dependent on how badly damaged it is.
