Gangster_101
Im actuly looking foward to the game. True Crime wasent all that bad, but it was defently over hyped.
Chunks
but for f*ck's sake, stop comparing them. All that said: It has a black main character, open-ended missions, and motorcycles. OMFGTA. Uhm.....contradiction? But yeah, please stop comparing every single game that involves carjacking and shooting people to GTA, as it gets quite boring now. Does this mean that we can only have one type of game in each genre? So noone else is allowed to bring out a football game because another company already has made one, or no more adventure games because there is already one of them.... Yeah, TC had it's major flaws, but hopefully Activision will improve on these flaws and make the game worth the money. I ain't even going to jump on the bandwagon with you guys and put this game down, as it isn't even bloody out yet.
PetsOvernight
The graphics look like blended cock, but beta versions of games and screenshots always look jagged, and horrible. They turn out nicer. I enjoyed TC:SoLA for awhile, well, until I beat it, which took... a week? It was kinda too easy and short. I loved the idea of a huge place to explore, 'cept they just raped buildings and everything was the same, and unoriginal... I'm sure they realized their errors by now... If it was that bad, they wouldn't wanna release it I don't think. I'm excited to see how they recreate Manhattan... should be interesting. I'll definitely check this game out. OMFGTA. Uhm.....contradiction? Pretty sure he was joking mate Anyway, after looking at the videos I can honestly say I have no interest whatsover. Which is a shame, because I thought that after San Andreas (OMG COMPARISON!), other companies would up the anti, yet still we're left with crap that couldn't fill GTA3's shoes. Officer Pulaski
I think it is fair to compare it to GTA. I think GTA set the benchmark for Free roaming Action/RPG's. I mean, cmon. GTA is really, just great fun. No matter what number your have, it is plain fun any time of the day. Now give someone a choice between GTA and TC, what do you think people will choose? you dont have to choose at all, buy both, theyre both good games
4u2nv
True Crime will NEVER meet the popularity, the gameplay, and the FEEL of GTA. It's ok in it's own way, it had the right idea, but GTA has that overall loveable feel. True Crime NY may be good, but it won't be better than GTA, ever. And how do you know nobody liked Driv3r? I liked GTA3, but hated GTA Vice. Vice to me was a bitch in so many ways. The 2 cities, both sucked, and I hate the "Scarface" time attribute. GTA3 had a great feel and environment. Even though Vice had many extras (weapons, jumping out of cars) GTA3 had it beat. And NO ONE like Driv3r. Or Driver 3. Anywhere. Well, maybe the select few with ADD.
dirtycopVCPD
I didn't really like the first game, I had the same problems everyone else seemed to have. The city was too large and bland to really enjoy the free roaming aspects and I wasn't really impressed with it's lack of interactive and diverse environments. NYC seems to be correcting these problems. They're using a smaller map which seems more detailed and interactive than LA. It does seem Activision is correcting its previous mistakes. Now they could end screwing up in other areas but right now I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. At the very least I think the game is worth a rental. original gangster
driv3r. i liked that replay thing, but overall it was crap. thank god they're making the new one just like driver1, with no crap shooting parts... as for true crime, streets of la was pretty good, up until the part where DRAGONS start appearing. how many games was it trying to be? and the map was bland. the new one looks a lot better, though. Gangstaman590
I never played True Crime the first one, but I heard it was horrible. Though a few things that I did hear that sound interesting were the crimes happening around the city. I think that is great, especially if you are just roaming around the city. Also the thing about being a good cop/bad cop sounds great. You can planet evidence on people and that'll raise your bad cop status which will allow you to get connectons in the black market ( I think). And the good cop route will allow you to get better positions in the force, allong with better vehicles? Another thing which seems really interesting is the way the environment changes based on how you treat it. If you clean up alot of crime in the bad neighborhoods they will start to look better. Oh and a plus for me is that it is in manhattan so I can just look for my cousin's neighborhood and start shootin up people that resemble his doofy ass. the_darkside_986
One of the biggest things I found annoying about TC:LA was the fact that it crashed all the time. I could be driving around or being chased by the SWAT, and the game would just simply freeze up. The game was severely rushed. Maybe the new one won't be so bad if they actually put some time into developping it. I just hope their interpretation of New York is not nearly as boring as the city in Spiderman 2 and the city in Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and especially that of the first True Crime game (500 square miles of big empty blocks). But then again, I don't expect much from something on the lousy PS2 hardware. (My PC is too old to play games that were made in the past few millenia )

I could be driving around or being chased by the SWAT, and the game would just simply freeze up. The game was severely rushed. The game would always freeze on me, and if it wasn't freezing on me then it was throwing me into the ground and into "nothing-ness"....it would just go all grey, and it would say the destination on the screen, but it was a weird place....anyone remember what it said? As others said, the fact that the city was so big made the free-roaming aspect of the game crap, because you would find somewhere you liked, then drive off, and never be able to find the place you liked again. Plus about 70% of the city was never actually used.

I think I know what you're talking about. On both the Gamecube and PS2 version, I have seen a glitch where it would suddenly say "Welcome to <Unnamed>" while I was driving, and then freeze up. I wonder where this "Unnamed" district really is in Los Angeles There are also many other weird glitches in the game. For example, you can do a peel-out (provided you earned the upgrade) while the car is upside down, and thus manage to flip it back over. I have had a lot of fun with the glitches actually. But I can't stand software that crashes
guv
I think the current generation of consoles just don't like large open areas. San Andreas, for example, has frozen on me on both the PS2 and Xbox.

San Andreas, for example, has frozen on me on both the PS2 and Xbox. San Andreas has never actually froze on me, even when I have alot happening on the screen. True Crime had far too many glitches, but as mentioned above, some of them were actually quite funny. All I used to do was drive to Hollywood, and then boost my car off one of the huge hills and try and land on some overhead wires...if you did then you would just land sideways and had to get out of the car...falling to your death. It's small enough to be interesting and diverse without too many problems with glitches and such.

I would always try and reach these new areas, by speeding a car up the hill, but it would just crash or something else would happen. LLD
True Crime has a NICE car-vs-car mode, I will admit that, GTA doesn't touch it in that category, I love just firing off 100's of bullets into a criminal's car speeding away from me and having it twist and turn. Here's what would have made L.A. better ; 1. GANGS in the streets 2. Better voice actors (The pedestrians used the same sh*t catchphrases over and over again) 3. Going undercover as a criminal and taking non-linear missions

Going undercover as a criminal and taking non-linear missions A better variety of peds would also be nice. In TC:LA, it was the same few groups everwhere I went, with maybe an extra type in certain ethnic areas of the city. The only "variety" in TC:LA was when the game engine would mix up the voices and clothing colors of the same ped 3-d models. Also, in the sequel, the developers need to spend more than 0 seconds debugging the free roaming aspects of the game. In TC:LA, the missions don't seem to have too many bugs (except when the frame rate slows in intense shooting missions) but the experience of driving around the city makes TC:LA feel like the game that has the lowest production quality in history. But I have higher hopes for the sequel since they don't really need to rush it.
