True Crime New York

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Anyway, the first True Crime was one of the better GTA clones, albeit one with a somewhat bland city and perhaps the most annoying lead character ever. Oh, and the lack of dynamic weather and time of day was another thing that relegated it to also ran status

Anyway, I'm hoping for a major improvement with the sequel due out next month, but am wary of it once again being devoid of character, and discouraging exploration because of general blandness.

Anyone else hoping it will keep GTA fans going till the Next Gen GTA arrives?

The game is crappy. Terrible music, bad physics and worst-of-all there were 'blue hell' locations out in the open, you could see through buildings and objects! Let's not forget the game included flying devil heads and zombies.

The only interior besides storyline ones was the car-park where it held cars you unlocked. I also love that random-violence is SOOO easy, it takes over 100 kills for police/mafia/pimps/swat to do random drive-bys.

My rating for the first game : 2/10

My pre-rating for the sequel : 3/10

Jumping Snakes

I say it may be a good game... I mean the first one wasn't too bad.. just the dragon fight seemed insane..

Although I think they should just give up on the game and perhaps make it into a movie... I wouldn't mind going to see that~

Don't assume, assuming always leads to some unnecessary arguement. That said the new one looks a lot more impressive than the last, I think activision has learned from their past mistake.~TGK

I didn't even know they were making a sequel, and it's out next month!?

Either the exposure's been terrible, or I'm falling out of the loop.

They're keeping it quiet so that you won't automatically start comparing it to GTA:SA. I know they're similiar, but for f*ck's sake, stop comparing them. The first game wasn't half-bad. Just poorly executed. Hopefully they've ironed out all the bugs and added better character development in this one.

And for f*cks sake, no more 'stealth' missions.

All that said: It has a black main character, open-ended missions, and motorcycles. OMFGTA.

A black main character, pfff. I know they have the right to publish what they wish and how they wish before the righteous police crucify me but if you dont want to be compared to another product obvious stuff like that shouldnt even come into thought.

This game is copying everything that sanandreas has like motorcycles,A black main character, and the rest I can't remember tounge.gif

I might rent it solely for the fact that it is trying to recreate the city of New York (I live very close), but overall, I think it will suck. It will most likely be as bland and mediocre as the first one. Some of the new features, such as (apparently) more traffic, new vehicles, variable neighborhoods, etc, might be interesting. At least Nick Kang doesn't seem to be in any of the screenshots.

Shhh.

I will get this as I thought the first one was fun to play.

If they stay away from giant dragons/lizards and what not,the game will be ok.

I don't know though.Any time I play one of these clones,I always find myself thinking..."well this isn't as good as GTA".....or.."GTA handled this much better"...etc

More like 3 months, according to Gamespot. By then it'll be near the launch of Microshaft's 2 pi boxes. It's obvious from the screenshots alone that this next entry is merely a subpar rehash of the first game. I'd expect the same bland landscape, the same sh*tty controlability of the character, sh*tty physics, limited ineractivity, and another story written by those with an IQ of a twelve year old.

But given that these rim jobbers can make the character interact with the environment as smoothly and solidly as CJ did with San Andreas, and provided that the driving physics and camera angles all feel fluid with the environment as well, then the game could actually be fun. But I won't hold my breath.

x2.

Wouldn't hurt for some original concepts :side: They just don't get it do they? the game already has a crappy rep due to the last pile of crap they brought out. Annoying characters, crap-tastic physics, boring fighting. True Crime: Crap-tasic driving, bullsh*t fighting, and annoying bullsh*t everywhere. I could write a better script, honest to god!

i read about this game in a psm magazine, and to tell the truth after reading the long and in dept preview, i'm actually looking forward to it, it' also recreates all of manhattan, one of my fav's places. so far i read nuthing but good things about the game, even though i never picked up the first, this one might be the one to get.

Wait, I am a bit of confused. So this is the new version of True Crime: Streets of LA?

Can I buy it for PC? I don't know how about you, but I liked the True Crime LA, because it was soooo big, probably the biggest city in the game ever....

I really want to buy it for PC...

I<love>AMG, No, this is the second version in the True Crime series and it has yet to come out. So, it's not available yet. And yes, it'll come out for PC.

On topic, I wouldn't get this game. The first True Crime sucked, and the second one is sure to suck too. Activision is just not good at making these type of games. They're getting all of their ideas from Rockstar and those zombie sh*t, maybe from a five year old. I might rent it and play it.

okay the blue hell thing was unavoidable, because the game is like 5 times bigger than SA

like seriously, i took the best car out of the impound lot, drove it from the start of the highway on the east

floored it all the way to the west, it took me like 20 mins none stop

i hated the fact that after you beat the game, there was nothing to do

i did also find Ancient Wu pretty retarted and pointless

i mean that entiire chapter had no effect on the storyline

i dont think its fair to keep comparing it to GTA

the only thing thats the same is, you can shoot and the free roam

thats like saying all first-person shooters are copies of Doom

I think it is fair to compare it to GTA. I think GTA set the benchmark for Free roaming Action/RPG's. I mean, cmon. GTA is really, just great fun. No matter what number your have, it is plain fun any time of the day. Now give someone a choice between GTA and TC, what do you think people will choose?

Well, now you mention it, First Person Shooters were once referred to as "Doom clones".

I think it's a fair comparison. You can go where you like, shoot who you like, drive around a city... Pretty similar.

I hope they drag the voice actors to the middle of New York and shoot them. Honestly, I could have voiced that game better by myself with a 20 dollar microphone.

There's a difference between comparing it to GTA and using GTA as a way to say oh this game is better because you can do this which you can't do in that game etc.

@loveamg - Yeah big and bland, the map may of been huge but it was basiacally just recycled buidlings put along the LA roadlayout.

Maybe they'll have more than like 2 building models now.

Hell, maybe they could get together with Driver, watch their rip-off-powers combine and then still suck the balls of some mammal that smells.

Don't you know? Rockstar copyrighted black people, and leased the license to Dave Chappelle, so only they can use black people from now on.

No offense, but the whole game doesn't look too much better than the last. The graphics still look like complete asss even compared to GTA3, the wheels have basically no shape, and they decided to rip the Crysler 300 and slap some bling bling on it. Also, the buildings look way too bland and the Cars look terrible mainly because of the horribily pixilated texxtures. Nuff said.

Duders, do you expect them just to make fake current vehicles? If so, GTA:III did the same thing, just ripped a bunch of cars dozingoff.gif . Not unless they want to pay a lot of money to lisence the car, then they can rip it and make it look like a Chrylser all they want.

Can't really "judge" a game before it comes out, but I will probably rent it.

What other game developers seem incapable of is populating their cities with NPCs who have a bit of personality. Driv3r just features manequins who patrol the streets, occasionally shouting "Hey" and "Whoah" should you dare drive near the curb. True Crime had NPCs who couldn't do anything apart from mince around and commit the same handful of crimes over and over ad nauseum.

What these games' developers either fail to understand or are incapable of programming is that people interact in a great variety of ways: they walk around in groups; hold hands; argue; there are business people, thugs, posers; people carrying shopping... etc. GTA can manage all of these things, and were doing it four years ago. Considering how popular the GTAs are, it's a surprise that no one else seems capable of replicating what they do.
