index
After reading pages and pages of the ridiculousness over the Hot Coffee issue... I found myself here: http://www.gtagarage.com/letters/index.php At the bottom was a letter that had been included with another letter sent to the ESRB... I post it below: To whom it may concern, We just fired this message off to Senator Clinton, Assemblymember Yee, and the rather excitable Jack Thompson. Your attacks on the customers you are supposed to protect are reprehensible to say the least. The gaming public knows very well you have rated more explicit games as "M" than what is contained in the allegedly obscene content (hot coffee) which you have admonished us over. Granted, your demonizing of the mod community may be only PR and politics, but we do not appreciate being a tertiary scapegoat for you to pass the already misplaced blame of irresponsible parents along to. So, please, find another patsy. Just thought it would be fair to give you the heads up we never got. Cheers, the administration of gtagarage.com THAT.. was f*ckING AWESOME.... I got chills just now reading it again... not since The Hacker's Manifesto has something hit it's intended target with such style and (dare I say?) class. It's the reason I took the time to register at this site, so that I could say to you, whoever you are... Well done. index Edited August 28, 2005 by index

eggburt
Maybe it's a discussion? The second D I wouldn't really compare it to the Hacker's Manifesto, as that was art, this is just a letter Still, it's a good letter, I guess
index
I compared the writings because I relate to the repeated misunderstanding of each group.... namely gamers, and hackers... both are rarely portrayed as anything even resembling reality, and in concept often attacked for actions they are more likely a victim, than a perpetrator. It was the spirit in which he wrote that allowed the comparison... and it was most certainly art.... index
Dunpeal
I liked that letter. But can someone explain what the Hackers Manifesto is/was. It has sparked my curiousity.
spoof
The gaming public knows very well you have rated more explicit games as "M" than what is contained in the allegedly obscene content (hot coffee) which you have admonished us over It would have been even more impressive if the writer had more eloquence in terms of the English language. As it was, it read as if a disgruntled teenager wished to appear more formal than their ability with the written word. I applaud the message, but not the approach. If something is going to be done, at least let it be done well
Lazzo
If something is going to be done, at least let it be done well For some reason I doubt that whomever reads this letter will critque it as you have. It will probably be an American reading it. So, unless they've majored in English or know how to speak it properly (which I'm sure you've realized many citizens of the United States cannot) I wouldn't give it a second thought.
