Night Eyes
Ok, I woke up this morning and tried to turn on my compy, but....It decided not to work. The (LCD) Moniter said "No signal", I tried fiddling with the cords to see if they were all plugged in right, then changed to my other CRT moniter , but to no avail. So I thought maybe the video card might be the pit of my problems, I Yanked it out and traded it with another video card from my other computer, but also, to no avail. Everything else in the computer runs fine, fans, power, etc... Now I fear for the worse... Is there anything I can check/do before I Have to pay a kazzillion dollars for someone to say my computer is screwed? Specs, (Yeh I Know, she's old)- AMD Duron 735 MHz GeForce 4 MX 440 Some soundblaster card 448 RAM And 40 gig HD Thanks!
Wolf68k
Does the mobo happen to have onboard video? If so have you tried it? How do you know everything is working perfectly? You can't see anything on the monitor, so the reason why there is no singal might be because the CPU is dead or the mobo itself is dead. When you turn the system on do you hear any BIOS beeps? If none, then the mobo maybe fried. If you do hear some what is The count? Any idea what make and model of mobo you have is? Is this a pre-build system like an HP or Dell, or is it more or less a self-build system?

It doesent make any of the usual beeping sounds when I boot it up, But the LED Light on the mobo is still on. I have no idea what make the mobo is, I used to...But I'm having trouble trying to remember, and now I Cant check very easy...And its defiantly not a Pre-Built system, My brother built it himself way back when it was still good. This is just getting worse and worse. Anyone have any ideas? Edited August 29, 2005 by Night_eyes
Night Eyes
Sorry to double post....But, Bumpy? ANYONE Have any ideas?
Waste
Download Everest Home, that will tell you your specs. <---- Ignore this please. Ohyea, heh, forgot it wouldn't come on. Look at me go! But, yes, wolf is correct (as usual. ), if it doesn't beep at all then it is more than likely your mobo. I recently had problems with an older machine similiar to yours, but it was giving me three beeps then a permenant beep shortly after. (Found out the case was pulling the video card out.) Wolf68k
Sorry I must have missed this before. Just because the light is on doesn't mean the mobo is good, just that it's getting power. No beeps means nothing is going any further than the power. So it would be my guess that the mobo is dead. If the video card, CPU or the RAM, being bad in some way you would get a series of beeps. Hmm...I know you said if it was the RAM it would make beeps, But I just changed the RAM in the slots around and it booted up normally, I changed them back to the original position and they didnt work. What the heck is going on here? (Thanks for all the help!)
Taxman
Thats....quite strange. Maybe, somehow, you fried the DIMM slots (though I don't know how the RAM would have survived that)...
Wolf68k
That is extremely strange. Do both sticks show up when you switch them to where they are working?
