I've only really watched MTV twice this year. Once for the "CKY very special special", and the "CKY makes a video" both on MTV2.

What about the REAL real punk bands, like Husker Du, the Circle Jerks, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Dead Kennedys and all the bands tha came ooooohhhhh 15/20 years before the tripe you just mentioned. You know, before MTV was even taken seriously and churned out guff like Motley Crue all day.

I also listen to some old punk, just not as much as modern. Velvet Underground, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, etc.

 

Keep in mind we all have different tastes.

I watched the concert on TEH INTARNETS, because I KNEW they were gonna cut out on Pink Floyd/The Who. And they did. They missed most of the Who's first song for commercials. At least VH1 and MTV could have switched off on f*cking commercials, since they're only ONE f*ckING CHANNEL APART

MTV once aired a commercial that said "Not everything you hear is true. MTV. We don't show just music." How true. Now they are nothing but reality shows and sacriligious CRAP like Wonder Showzen (SPAWN OF SATAN I TELL YA!) and that DREADFUL Andy Milonakis Show (Okay so it was a little funny, but still sucks) Many of their shows blow. I believe the only exceptions to that would be Daria, Beavis and Butthead, and Celebrity Deathmatch (Well...I liked it anyway...) And when they DO show music its mostly rap! I...don't like rap...at all...C'mon MTV! You can do better than that!

I like MTV, especially on fridays and saturdays since we have Dirty Sanchez, Jackass, Wildboyz, Viva la Bam etc.

I agree with what all of you guys are saying. I still watch and enjoy MTV though, but I guess that's contradicting. Anyway, the shows that they put on are hilariously stupid and they do need to show more music(and I mean good music).

 

Also, MTV is the reason that alot of you guys hate rap music. They only show that stupid sh*t with women in the videos and crappy gimmicks.

It is ENTERTAINMENT. Yeah it started out under the pretense of playing music videos and MTV still does that, even if its not the kind of music you are into. The music industry has changed so much over the last 2-3 decades just like the times. Bottom line is nothing ever stays the same. MTV would be dead & stagnant if it kept the same format of the good ole days. Besides intelligent music listeners should not be looking to MTV to hear good music. Let the young mindless masses have their pop ideology.

 

Oh yeah, there have always been black people on MTV. One of the original 4 or 6 vjs was black. They also had some annoying british black whore with the most irritating voice ever. Race has f*ck all to do with anything. Besides REAL poor blacks n browns don't have cable in the first place.

 

As far as their other programming goes, I think it genius. I'm sure it does have ill affect on certain teens but no greater then movies or the other 200+ channels on tv. MTV created reality tv. They've been doing the Real World for like 15 years. Way before reality tv became popular. Plus they balance shows like Laguna Beach with shows like Made.

 

People are stupid enough to watch & support sh*t like the Gottis, Bobby Brown, and Tommy Lee. Twenty years ago when Motley Crew was relative that gay ass show would have got them laughed off stage and they would've never sold another record. None of those stupid shows are even on MTV.

 

Woo long ass rant. Anyway I've watched MTV since I was like 8 and I'm 24 now. Maybe if it was all you watched all day it would be bad. Eventually the times will change again and so will MTV. Maybe they'll play more diverse sh*t then.
