About to upgrade

Today, my video card kinda crapped out on me, and I almost couldn't get it to work again, and this prompted me to push for an increasingly needed upgrade to both my video card and PSU.

I'm currently using a standard ATi Radeon 9600XT, and as for the PSU, it's some generic 350w one that came with my case.

Now, what I've been looking at for a video card, is the X800 XL found here, and I can't really go any higher as far as price goes. Not really sure if I should go with this, but it sounded the best to me. Now, I've never used an NVidia card before, so I have no idea what to look for if I were to switch over.

As for the PSU, I have no clue. I'm looking for something about $60 USD maximum.

I mainly chose the XL due to it having an updated R430 chipset and 16 pixel pipelines over the PRO's R420 set and 12 pipelines, and according to the benches I've been reading, the XL has been coming out higher than the PRO.

As for the PSU, I'm looking for a little more power, somewhere in the 450-500w range...

The X800XL is by NO means "crap". Typically, yes, XL=crap, but not here. look at these benchmarks.

For the PSU, I have this one myself, stupidly thinking upgrading to SLI would have been worth it and wanting power. It is still a very good and powerful PSU. However, some might prefer an Antec PSU or Enermax, and for around 500 those will run you about $100.

Well, as for the PSU, I didn't want anything with flashy colors (Or, at least, something that clashed with the general silver/blue style), but even so, it looks good, and personally I don't want to spend much time going over PSUs, so I think I'll go with that. Plus, the wires are wrapped so it's not that bad of a thing to have.

And lol, thats the same guide I read. Although pointing it to the HL2 section in particular doesn't do much justice.

I find linking people to specific examples wins them over easier then reading a 10pg review. If they're inclined, theyll go to the beggining.
