Spiralvortex
If you remember from playing GTA3 the reason we couldnt use the tunnel was because it wasnt finished being built(I checked Liberty Tree to see if I was mistaken[its becoming like a real newspaper cause its always being used as a source of info]) Heres the two times its mentioned: March September in the march one it says it needs more money before its FIRST cross-bay traffic in the september one the worker interviewed says the tunnel isnt done, and it mentions an opening party. so you think they'll put the tunnel in or give us something new? What are you talking about? The tunnel opened up by section once you reached each island (e.g. You could go to Staunton, but not Shoreside, when Staunton opened up). Wait... because the Porter Tunnel was under construction in 2001, and LCS is set in 1998, maybe there WON'T be a Porter Tunnel. I don't know, my brain hurts. That is all. ThaddeusMcKlown
Isn't he talking about the unfinished tunnels in north Shoreside Vale? -TMcK- Against the grain, against the odds, against the world Forever the underdogs We are the bastard sonsWe are the ones that refuse to grow coldWe are the thorn in your sideWe are the thieves in the nightAnd we're coming to take what's ours
Spiralvortex
ThaddeusMcKlown I mean the Porter Tunnel, it wasnt finished til Late 2001 but LCS takes place in 98 so i wonder if the tunnel is gonna be around.
Kanney
They used the Porter Tunnel excuse to cut off Portland from the other islands when you first begin. The SSV tunnels have never been mentioned, hopefully they will be reopened but the ones you are referring to are those near the crane in Portland, near the hospital in Staunton, and past the bridge near airport in SSV. Spiralvortex
Yeah but that excuse means that the tunnel is not there in LCS
Grove Banger
how do u know the tunnel isnt there in LCS? Maby it was just completed during GTA 3 but isnt been built in LCS.

Kanney
I'd say that Porter Tunnel not being finished on the Liberty Tree means that the Porter Tunnel was having reconstruction on it. It was always there but shortly before GTA3 it was damaged. They have to put it in because it is a pivotal source for transport between the islands. But if I want to keep this topic alive pointlessly, a theory is that the tunnel is not there and therefore making more a reason and importance for the ferry journeys between island like Juank Air in San Andreas. Pierce Brosnan
Simply, the road tunnel might be removed beacause it was build in 2001 (GTAIII) so for it to make sense, Rockstar Games will mosy likely remove it or keep it for the fun of the map of Liberty City. We'll just have to wait and see. -Pierce
pizza guy
Pierce, the fact that the game is set 3 years before, and something like the Porter Tunnel would take about 3 years to complete, does in fact add up to what other people are saying that it may not be there. It makes sense to me, that's why there is the ferries. Once the Porter Tunnel was opened the ferries were decommissioned I guess.
PresidentKiller
The tunnel won't be there. Liberty Tree has various "articles" saying that such project wasn't finished yet. The tunnel begins operations just when you're actually leaving Portland for Staunton in GTA3. The ferry would be the tunnel's "predecessor" and we'll probably see a "Future site of the Porter Tunnel. PanLantic Construction Co." sign where the tunnel's entrances are.
Spiralvortex
Although the fact that the tunnel isnt completed might add to the story line now that i think about it. Because the tunnel had problems with money, maybe a mission could be that you take money to the the panlantic company to launder mob money or something and because you helped them they give you simple road access(for you only) to the somewhat completed parts of the tunnel(there by giving a reason that only part of the tunnel is open at a time). Or maybe rockstar will just say forget it and throw the tunnel in anyway.

GTA-Assassin
There is NO porter tunnel in LCS!!! The portland bridge is only just finishing being built and the workers of the ferrys are on strike because they will loose their jobs if the porter tunnel is built, this is how portland is cut off This image shows the strike at the portland harbour to stop the porter tunnel being built This image shows the area which the ferry docks off the top of portland (the same place the tunnel entrance is going to be built) The ferry! This image from GTA3 shows the entrance to the porter tunnel and the army base but in 1998 it was the two docks which the ferry would cross

Yep, the ferry is usable, although im not sure whether you can transport vehicles, although i think you can, you can't jack the ferry either, its just a way of transporting between place to place. crashoverride93
They can transport certain vehicles but if I'm not mistaken I seem to vaugly remember a weight limit where certain cars couldn't go across although if I'm wrong I'm sorry as its been a while because my game went missing a good while ago and I haven't found it.
