Grand Theft Grandpa

What makes a magnum a magnum is velocity. Take the .38 Special & .357 Magnum for instance. They both fire a .357 inch bullet. The .38 DOES NOT fire a .380 inch diameter bullet. So what`s the difference? The .357 has a slightly longer case & therefore holds a tiny bit more powder. The .357 is also loaded to a much higher chamber pressure than the .38 is, which equates to more bullet velocity. You can fire .38 Special cartridges in a .357 revolver, but not vice versa. There is nothing "magic" about a magnum cartridge. wink.gif

They must be custom-made then.

No, actually. They are marketed like any other gun like say a Springfield XD 9mm. Magnum Research(I think that is the company that makes the DE) finally broke down and started producing 9mm handguns because hardly anyone can afford to purchase their big .50(for obvious reasons), and thus they were not making as much cash as they wanted to be making. My uncle bought one. They can be purchased just as easily a any other small-caliber firearm and require no special ordering or customization to make it a 9mm. I can't remember where I heard it, but I think they are also thinking of making .45 and .40 caliber handguns as well.

Wow you guy know quite alot about gun. smile.gif

So one shot from the magnum is powerful enough to kill a person?

Isit illegal to shoot anyone on the street in america? what happen if i shoot someone? Will i go to jail or get find?

If i was to shot you at close range in the stomach, you'd fly back and have a big hole in ur stomach.

But remember Newtons Law of Physics. In order for him to fly back you would also have to fly back an equal distance, regardless of the range you shot him at. sly.gif

But let's not turn this into a massive Physics lesson.

(Sorry to be picky on the matter)

Thats why some people put a foot behind them so they don't fly back. Or stand next to a wall.

Have you played Counter Strike at least once? You should know that a headshot with ANY weapon it's instant kill.

People have survived a shot in the head.

(in fact i know one, he actually had a peice of brain removed, although he still functions fine)

He was shot with a 9mm, but if was anything more powerful than that, he almost definitely would have been killed.

Youre ALMOST correct.

But counterstrike still isnt real life.

No matter how much you believe.

If you want to change the damage values on the PC only, open the weapons.dat file in notepad or something and change the "L" value. The pistol damage is 25, where the desest eagle is 140. You can adjust the levels to what ever you feel is right.

Well, first of all, if you shot that person on the street without a concealed carry weapon permit, you would go to jail. You can shoot someone if you feel they are threatening your life or another's life and have a CCW permit and claim self-defense. However, there are certain places you can't carry such as in schools and etc.

Right. It is only legal to shoot someone(providing that you have a CCW permit) if they are directly endangering your life or the life of a family member

And yes, if you open fire on someone without cause, you will most definetly get either shot by police officers or arrested and charged with various endangerment and hazard charges(unless you actually hit and/or kill someone, then you should basically bend over to make it easier for the judge and lawyers)

And the reason I know so much about this matter is because both my mother and father are licensced NRA Instructors to teach classes about personal and home defense using a handgun and issue permits to allow mentally-able people to carry concealed weapons tounge2.gif

pretty much any gun can kill with one hit, provided it is to the torso or head sneaky2.gif oh and, you would go to jail, or if you live in a southern state, probably recieve the death penalty, which i believe is sufficiant for killing someone. you would get killed back if you live in the south. a lot of states want to get rid of the death penalty though dontgetit.gif. its kinda funny to think about what it would be like if you only got a fine for shooting someone lol.gif

Not True. There are documented cases of people surviving shots to the head(even multiple shots to the head). And a shot to the torso wont necessary kill you unless they managed to aim it just right to penetrate vital organs or your Aorta. But I suppose it all really depends on the gun beign fired.

Although I was looking for information on how to fly the hydra on PC smile.gif, I thought I would chime in here a bit about the desert eagle and some of the weird stuff I was reading about it.

I own a desert eagle xix in .50 AE (mine is blued with wooden grips, but you can get it in a whole assortment of finishes, such as chrome and pimptastic gold).

I’ve fired it lots of times, and I even fired mine and another guys at a range, one in each hand, at a good pace (about a round a second), all the while screaming lines from scarface. Needless to say it’s not ripping my arm off or knocking me down or whatever.

It was $1200.00 USD; different finishes cost more/less. The bullets cost around a dollar each, sold in 20 round boxes. This is because the 50 AE round is not very popular and not many guns use it (I know of only one other gun besides the desert eagle that is chambered for 50 ae).

The mark xix model has a removable barrel, so you can pop out the 50 AE barrel and throw in a 44 mag barrel, or a 40, as well as a bunch of others, if you own the barrels.

One of the fun parts of the gun is its open ejection port and first timers. When the gun fires the empty shell is propelled up over the gun, but most people who fire it for the first time don’t hold it firmly, and when they fire they let the gun flip up, and it usually ejects the hot shell onto their forehead leaving a little mark (which I like to call the fiddy-kiss).

As bullets go, the 50 AE is a slow bullet. The shape of the cartridge and size of the bullet usually mean there’s a lot of unspent powder leaving the barrel immediately after the bullet, which ignites due to the heat and causes the gun to emit a somewhat impressive flame when it fires. I think "belches" is the best term to describe it.

I bought it for the same reason you would, its cool. That’s the only reason I ever heard of someone buying it - its cool to shoot, if you fire it at the range everyone in there looks over to see you with this cannon, and all your friends want to shoot or watch you shoot it. But it’s not an accurate gun, nor a gun I would envision anyone carrying around. It’s a bulky gun, it has close tolerances (it will jam or misfire if it’s dirty) and the 50 AE round is not a very good self defense or hunting round for that matter.

------

Just to clarify too, a magnum means a bullet designed with another bullet in mind, but has more powder (or in case of shotguns, more shot). There’s a 22 Mag caliber, and that’s not as "powerful" as a .380 or a .38. The world of bullets is very confusing, its best not to guess what’s bullet is "better" or "stronger". Caliber is a measurement of the shell, that’s it. It’s not an indicator of what bullet is more powerful.

------

If you want to talk about handguns that will actually hurt you, I would suggest a 44 mag with a 3 inch barrel. It’s got a nice, painful slap to give your hand. Pretty much all those light, powerful, short guns are not fun to shoot. The freakiest gun I ever fired was the .500 Linebaugh. Essentially, no matter how hard you hold it, A) the barrel is going to flip up wildly B) your shooting palm is going to hurt like hell. C) You will not be interested in firing it again, and this gives the owner of the gun a chuckle and insists you fire off the remaining 5 rounds or whatever. The .454 Casull, .480 ruger, the linebaughs, etc are handgun hunting rounds for thick skinned game, like deer or bear. Hope this helped!

but still, odds are, you would die from a shot to the head, even if its from some little beretta. i like glock .40's because they are relyable, fast, and light. my dad has a colt 9mm smg that shoots regular handgun ammo. he used to be on swat sly.gif

dontgetit.gifblink.gif There's no such thing as "regular" handgun ammo. But yes, the odds are you will most likely die from a shot to the head 99% of the time. You have to be extremely lucky, hope the shooter can't aim well, and pray that it is a weak gun, if you are to survive a head shot

what i meant by regular 9mm handgun ammo, is that you can take a 9mm handgun's clip. empty it, and use that ammo in the colt smg smile.gif

or is that just part of the game bullet proof if its true

then it proofs that a gun has to hit the right part

lol.giflol.gif Oh god...took a while to recover from the laughing induced by that. I'm 99.9999% sure that if anyone was shot in the face 9 times, their face would be so so f*cked up that all the plastic surgery in the world couldn't make them look normal again, let alone the fact that he/she/it would be so dead it wouldn't be funny....unless you're weird like that and can laugh that hard at dead people dontgetit.gif

Secondly does custom magnum exist in real life? I saw one in resident evil 2 but not sure whether they really exist.

CCW permits vary by state. In Illinois for example, there is no CCW permit, only law, pi's, bodyguards etc can carry a weapon. Most states require you to fill out a form, get a background check, and/or apply for the permit through the local sheriff's department. But as I said it’s mostly related to what state you live in. If you’re not a US citizen you cannot get a CCW permit, nor can you purchase a gun in the US legally either. However, in some states, (like Nevada) you can go to a range and with a proof of age they will let you rent a gun to shoot in their range. You can even rent a machine gun and shoot it there, but expect to pay about 150.00 for the rental plus ammo. If you ever go to Vegas for vacation, that might be a fun break from the gambling smile.gif

The custom magnum you’re describing is the "hunting barrel" for a desert eagle. Nothing special, its just 14" instead of 9". A longer barrel will increase accuracy to a certain degree, but IMO it makes the gun look silly. It could also mean that the gun was worked on by a gunsmith/gun enthusiast; lots of people will take their gun to a smith for him/her to smooth/upgrade/replace parts to make the gun more accurate, easier to fire, cooler looking, etc.

Unless youve got the ill skillz like ocelot.

He LOVES to reload during a battle.

Revolvers are a drag, only six shots per reload plus a rather long reload.

Stick one bullet in a hole, now the other, now the other, now the fourth hole, the fifth and... last one. Close the drum and give it a whirl to look like a bad ass mo'fo. 8)

how about the smith & wesson .500 magnum? it only holds 5 rounds because the ammo is so freaking huge!. it is supposed to be the most powerful revolver on the planet! devil.gif my uncle goes hunting with a .44 magnum. it goes straight through the deer. its pretty gross to see that barf8bd.gif
