Johnnyboy
Hello guys, Recently, the automatic updates-feature for win xp has just vanished from my computer. When I click on properties in the My Computer's right menu, I don't see a tab with the feature at all. It is as if it was removed. I'm surprised because I thought this feature didn't have an uninstall program. Also when visiting Windows Update, the update isn't available for me. That means that I have it already installed on my comp but I really can't see any sign of it. The icon in the taskbar is gone, no sign of it in the Control Panel and also its background program called WUAUCLT.exe or something has vanished. I've searched quite long for a website where I can download this feature again but I couldn't find anything. So can anyone here who knows a site where I can download this update for xp, please give me a link? Thanks in advance,
Daggdave
Have you tried just going to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/
Johnnyboy
As I said, this update isn't available for me when I visit Windows Update. It considers that I already have that update installed on my computer while I don't. That's why I would like to have other links where I can download it from. Thanks for your help anyways
segosa
Try remove the Windows Update ActiveX control. It'll be in C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files.
Johnnyboy
@ segosa: Will this make the updat available for me at Windows Update?
Tryst
You might have the most current update, I don't know. But did you try going to your windows control panel and then going to the windows security center? Does it show the automatic updates there? Johnnyboy
@ General_Tryst: I think even if I have the most current updates, the feature would at least still be available on the computer for example in the properties in the My computer's right menu. You can change it's settings in one of the tabs there. Also I think it should at least be open in the background even when there aren't any most current updates. It was like that in the first place when there weren't any new updates for me. And no I can't find it anywhere in the Control Panel nor in the security center. Thanks a lot for your help though. I think the only solution is to download and reinstall it again from any site except Windows Update (see above for the reason).
